The Reynolds strss equation with turbulent energy-length scales was simplified in the nearly homogeneous turbulent equilibrium flow and a modified Reynolds stress model was proposed. Tn the model proposed in the present study, Reynolds stresses can be expressed in the form of algebraic equation, so that the turbulent stresses and related quantities are calculated through relatively simple procedures. The model predicted well the turbulent shear stresses of homogeneous flow in local equilibrium state obtained from experimental results published earlier Constants used In the model was determined universally and its validity was discussed briefly.

In tis paper, sthe new data model for the hardware implementation of lempel-ziv compression algorithm was proposed. Traditional model generates the codeword which consists of 3 bytes, the last symbol, the position and the matched length. MSB (most significant bit) of the last symbol is the comparession flag and the remaining seven bits represent the character. We confined the value of the matched length to 128 instead of 256, which can be coded with seven bits only. In the proposed model, the codeword consists of 2 bytes, the merged symbol and the position. MSB of the merged symbol is the comression flag. The remaining seven bits represent the character or the matched length according to the value of the compression flag. The proposed model reduces the compression ratio by 5% compared with the traditional model. The proposed model can be adopted to the existing hardware architectures. The incremental factors of the compression ratio are also analyzed in this paper.

This paper was conducted as an attempt in order to construct the data bank of target strength for acoustic estimation of fish length in the coastal waters of Korea. The fish length dependence of acoustic target strength for 13 large yellow croakers (Pseudosciaena crocea) at 75 kHz was investigated and the prediction of the target strength by using the Kirchhoff-Ray Mode model (KRM model) was compared with target strength measurements. The results obtained are summarized as follows; 1. In the averaged target strength pattern for 13 large yellow croakers the maximum target strength was -35.13 dB at $-13.35^{\circ}$ on a tilted angle. 2. The relationship between fork length(L, cm) and averaged target strength(TS, dB) was expressed as follows; TS=23. 76log (L) -73.45 (r=0.47) TS=20log(L) -67.35 From this result, the conversion coefficient was -73.45 dB and 6.1 dB lower than the coefficient -67.35 dB where the value of the slope of the regression equation is forced to be 20. 3. Averaged target strength and a length conversion coefficient derived from a target strength histogram for 13 large yellow croakers of mean length 25.59 cm were -41.23 dB, -69.72 dB, respectively. 4. In the range of $$2;{\ll} L (fish length /{\lambda}(wave length);{\ll}40$$, the prediction of the averaged target strength by the KRM model increased gradually with the increasing of $L/{\lambda}$ and was lower than the measured target strength.
A three-dimensional discrete fracture network model was developed in order to simulate the hydraulic characteristics of a granitic rock mass at Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) Underground Research Tunnel (KURT). The model used a three-dimensional discrete fracture network (DFN), assuming a correlation between the length and aperture of the fractures, and a trapezoid flow path in the fractures. These assumptions that previous studies have not considered could make the developed model more practical and reasonable. The geologic and hydraulic data of the fractures were obtained in the rock mass at the KURT. Then, these data were applied to the developed fracture discrete network model. The model was applied in estimating the representative elementary volume (REV), the equivalent hydraulic conductivity tensors, and the amount of groundwater inflow into the tunnel. The developed discrete fracture network model can determine the REV size for the rock mass with respect to the hydraulic behavior and estimate the groundwater flow into the tunnel at the KURT. Therefore, the assumptions that the fracture length is correlated to the fracture aperture and the flow in a fracture occurs in a trapezoid shape appear to be effective in the DFN analysis used to estimate the hydraulic behavior of the fractured rock mass.

In the conventional GaAs MESFET circuit simulation, the DC and transient simulation results are often failed due to the discontinuities of the first and second order derivatives arising from the use of separate models in linear, saturation, and transition regions. In this paper, we propose a unified drain current-voltage model by using a unified channel length modulation effect that is derived by extending the channel length modulation effect in the saturation region to the linear region. Calculated results from the proposed drain current-voltage model agree well with the results of Shur model. Also, we propose a unified capacitance model for linear, transition, and saturation regions by using a unified channel length modulation effect. Its results from the proposed capacitance model agree well with 2-D device simulation results. Thus, the proposed models are expected to be useful in circuit simulations.

The conventional grounding impedance of a counterpoise is calculated as a function of the length of the counterpoise by use of the distributed parameter circuit model with an application of the EMTP(Electromagnetic Transient Program). The adequacy of the distributed parameter circuit model is examined and verified by comparison of the simulated and the measured results. The conventional grounding impedance of the counterpoise is analyzed for the first short stroke and subsequent short stroke currents. As a result, the simulated results show that the minimum conventional grounding impedance gives at a specified length of the counterpoise. The shorter the time taken to reach the peak of injected currents, the shorter the length of the counterpoise having the minimum conventional grounding impedance. We also present the critical lengths of the counterpoise for short stroke currents as a function of soil resistivity. Based on these results, it is necessary to compute the length of the counterpoise in a specified soil resistivity which satisfies both the low conventional grounding impedance requirement whilst also providing a suitable ground resistance in order to obtain an economical design and installation of the counterpoise.
The extensive usage of pretensioned prestressed concrete component in modem construe- tion as structural members mandates precise understanding of its mechanism. Especially, an adequate transfer of prestressing force from steel tendons to concrete around the end regions of the member is a critical issue. Due to the importance of the topic, several investigators have formulated equations modeling the transfer bond length based on various bonding mechanism between steel and concrete. However, the existing models are still inadequate in predicting the bond development in pretensioned prestressed concrete members. Therefore, this study presents a model of transfer bond length based on rational theory that can simulate experimental results. The model is developed into solid mechanics based structural analysis computer program. The program is validated by comparing the analysis results with experimental results of bond stress distribution, concrete strain profiles, and transfer length in pretensioned prestressed concrete members. The proposed analytical procedure in this study can be utilized as a useful tool for realistic evaluation of transfer length in pretensioned prestressed concrete members.
To estimate welding deformation for large steel structures, either experiment result with small specimen or analysis result of FEM with small numerical model is used. Consequently, it is important to decide the welding length of specimen and numerical model not to have an effect on welding deformation for accurate estimation of whole welding deformation. This study experimentally clarifies the effect of welding length on angular distortion due to welding by varying welding length of specimens, but fixing width and thickness of specimens on V-groove butt welding, fillet welding and bead on plate welding. As a resell the critical welding length on fillet welding and on bead on plate welding is over 500mm and on V-groove butt welding is over 1,000mm.

A modified model is proposed for calculation of transitional boundary layer flows. In order to develop the eddy viscosity model for the problem, the flow is divided into three regions; namely, pre-transition region, transition region and fully turbulent region. The pre-transition eddy-viscosity is formulated by extending the mixing length concept. In the transition region, the eddy-viscosity model employs two length scales, i.e., pre-transition length scale and turbulent length scale pertaining to the regions upstream and the downstream, respectively, and a universal model of stream-wise intermittency variation is used as a function bridging the pre-transition region and the fully turbulent region. The proposed model is applied to calculate three benchmark cases of the transitional boundary layer flows with different free-stream turbulent intensity (1%∼6%) under zero-pressure gradient. It was found that the profiles of mean velocity and turbulent intensity, local maximum of velocity fluctuations, their locations as well as the stream-wise variation of integral properties such as skin friction, shape factor and maximum velocity fluctuations are very satisfactorily predicted throughout the flow regions.
Camera arrangement for depth and image correspondence is very important to the computer vision. Two conventional comera arrangements for stereo computer vision are lateral model and axial motion model. In this paper, using the axial motion stereo camera model, the algorithm for camera focal length measurement and the surface smoothness with the radiance-irradiance is proposed fro 3-dimensional image correspondence on stereo computer vision. By adapting the above algorithm, camera focal length can be measured precisely and the resolution of 3-dimensional image correspondence has been improved comparing to that of the axial motion model without the radiance-irradiance relation.
