The continuous increase of the spatial resolution of remote sensing images brings great challenge to image analysis and processing. Traditional prior knowledge-based region detection and target recognition algorithms for processing high resolution remote sensing images generally employ a global searching solution, which results in prohibitive computational complexity. In this paper, a more efficient region of interest (ROI) detection algorithm based on visual attention and threshold segmentation (VA-TS) is proposed, wherein a visual attention mechanism is used to eliminate image segmentation and feature detection to the entire image. The input image is subsampled to decrease the amount of data and the discrete moment transform (DMT) feature is extracted to provide a finer description of the edges. The feature maps are combined with weights according to the amount of the "strong points" and the "salient points". A threshold segmentation strategy is employed to obtain more accurate region of interest shape information with the very low computational complexity. Experimental statistics have shown that the proposed algorithm is computational efficient and provide more visually accurate detection results. The calculation time is only about 0.7% of the traditional Itti's model.
This paper introduces and analyzes the theoretical basis and method of the conventional initial-value assignment problem and feasibility of image segmentation. The paper presents topological evidence and a method of appropriate initial-value assignment based on topology theory. Subsequently, the paper shows minimum conditions for feasibility of image segmentation based on separation axiom theory of topology and a validation method of effectiveness for image modeling. As a summary, this paper shows image segmentation with its mathematical validity based on topological analysis rather than statistical analysis. Finally, the paper applies the theory and methods to conventional Gaussian random field model and examines effectiveness of GRF modeling.
The assessment of structural condition is a crucial process for evaluating its usability and determining the diagnostic cycle. The currently employed manpower-based methods suffer from issues related to safety, efficiency, and objectivity. To address these concerns, research based on deep learning using images is being conducted. However, acquiring structural damage data is challenging, making it difficult to construct a substantial amount of training data, thus limiting the effectiveness of deep learning-based condition assessment. In this study, we propose a foundation model-based 2-step structural damage analysis to overcome the lack of training data in image-based structural condition assessments. We subdivided the elements of structural condition assessment into instantiation and quantification. In the quantification step, we applied a foundation model for image segmentation. Our method demonstrated a 10%-point increase in mean intersection over union compared to conventional image segmentation techniques, with a notable 40%-point improvement in the case of rebar exposure. We anticipate that our proposed approach will enhance performance in domains where acquiring training data is challenging.

Moving object detection system has been an emerging research field in various advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and surveillance system. In this paper, we propose two optical flow based moving object detection methods at dynamic scenes. Both proposed methods consist of three successive steps; pre-processing, foreground segmentation, and post-processing steps. Two proposed methods have the same pre-processing and post-processing steps, but different foreground segmentation step. Pre-processing calculates mainly optical flow map of which each pixel has the amplitude of motion vector. Dense optical flows are estimated by using Farneback technique, and the amplitude of the motion normalized into the range from 0 to 255 is assigned to each pixel of optical flow map. In the foreground segmentation step, moving object and background are classified by using the optical flow map. Here, we proposed two algorithms. One is Gaussian mixture model (GMM) based background subtraction, which is applied on optical map. Another is adaptive thresholding based foreground segmentation, which classifies each pixel into object and background by updating threshold value column by column. Through the simulations, we show that both optical flow based methods can achieve good enough object detection performances in dynamic scenes.
Laboratory-scale hydraulic fracturing experiments were conducted on granite specimens at various viscosities and injection rates of the fracturing fluid. A series of cross-sectional computed tomography (CT) images of fractured specimens was obtained via a three-dimensional X-ray CT imaging method. Pixel-level fracture segmentation of the CT images was conducted using a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based Nested U-Net model structure. Compared with traditional image processing methods, the CNN-based model showed a better performance in the extraction of thin and complex fractures. These extracted fractures extracted were reconstructed in three dimensions and morphologically analyzed based on their fracture volume, aperture, tortuosity, and surface roughness. The fracture volume and aperture increased with the increase in viscosity of the fracturing fluid, while the tortuosity and roughness of the fracture surface decreased. The findings also confirmed the anisotropic tortuosity and roughness of the fracture surface. In this study, a CNN-based model was used to perform accurate fracture segmentation, and quantitative analysis of hydraulic stimulated fractures was conducted successfully.

We spend a lot of time in indoor space, and the space has a huge impact on our lives. Interior design plays a significant role to make an indoor space attractive and functional. However, it should consider a lot of complex elements such as color, pattern, and material etc. With the increasing demand for interior design, there is a growing need for technologies that analyze these design elements accurately and efficiently. To address this need, this study suggests a deep learning-based design analysis system. The proposed system consists of a semantic segmentation model that classifies spatial components and an image classification model that classifies attributes such as color, pattern, and material from the segmented components. Semantic segmentation model was trained using a dataset of 30000 personal indoor interior images collected for research, and during inference, the model separate the input image pixel into 34 categories. And experiments were conducted with various backbones in order to obtain the optimal performance of the deep learning model for the collected interior dataset. Finally, the model achieved good performance of 89.05% and 0.5768 in terms of accuracy and mean intersection over union (mIoU). In classification part convolutional neural network (CNN) model which has recorded high performance in other image recognition tasks was used. To improve the performance of the classification model we suggests an approach that how to handle data that has data imbalance and vulnerable to light intensity. Using our methods, we achieve satisfactory results in classifying interior design component attributes. In this paper, we propose indoor space design analysis system that automatically analyzes and classifies the attributes of indoor images using a deep learning-based model. This analysis system, used as a core module in the A.I interior recommendation service, can help users pursuing self-interior design to complete their designs more easily and efficiently.

World Health Organization reported that heart-related diseases such as coronary artery stenoses show the highest occurrence rate which may cause heart attack. Using Computed Tomography angiography images will allow radiologists to detect and have intervention by creating 3D roadmapping of the vessels. However, it is often complex and difficult do reconstruct 3D vessel which causes very large amount of time and previous researches were studied to segment vessels more accurate automatically. Therefore, in this paper, Region Competition, Geodesic Active Contour (GAC), Multi-atlas based segmentation and Active Shape Model algorithms were applied to segment aortic root from CTA images and the results were analyzed by using mean Hausdorff distance, volume to volume measure, computational time, user-interaction and coronary ostium detection rate. As a result, Extracted 3D aortic model using GAC showed the highest accuracy but also showed highest user-interaction results. Therefore, it is important to improve automatic segmentation algorithm in future

In this study, finite element modeling of unidirectional composite materials of the computed tomography (CT) was conducted using a supervised learning-based segmentation technique. Firstly, Micro-CT scan was performed to obtain the raw volume of unidirectional composite materials, providing microstructure information. From the CT volume images, actual microstructure of the cross-section of unidirectional composite materials was extracted by the labeling process. Then, a U-net deep learning model was trained with a small number of raw images as inputs and their labeled images as outputs to generate a segmentation model. Subsequently, most of remaining images were input to the trained U-net deep learning model to segment all raw volume for identifying complex microstructure, which was used for the generation of finite element model. Finally, the fiber volume fraction of the finite element model was compared with that of experimentally measured volume to validate the appropriateness of the proposed method.
Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in women worldwide. In Korea, breast cancer is most common cancer in women followed by thyroid cancer. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the possibility of using deep - run model for segmentation of breast masses and to identify the best deep-run model for breast mass segmentation. In this study, data of patients with breast masses were collected at Asan Medical Center. We used 596 images of mammography and 596 images of gold standard. In the area of interest of the medical image, it was cut into a rectangular shape with a margin of about 10% up and down, and then converted into an 8-bit image by adjusting the window width and level. Also, the size of the image was resampled to $150{\times}150$. In Deconvolution net, the average accuracy is 91.78%. In U-net, the average accuracy is 90.09%. Deconvolution net showed slightly better performance than U-net in this study, so it is expected that deconvolution net will be better for breast mass segmentation. However, because of few cases, there are a few images that are not accurately segmented. Therefore, more research is needed with various training data.
In recent years, using Deep Learning methods to apply for medical and biomedical image analysis has seen many advancements. In clinical, using Deep Learning-based approaches for cancer image analysis is one of the key applications for cancer detection and treatment. However, the scarcity and shortage of labeling images make the task of cancer detection and analysis difficult to reach high accuracy. In 2015, the Unet model was introduced and gained much attention from researchers in the field. The success of Unet model is the ability to produce high accuracy with very few input images. Since the development of Unet, there are many variants and modifications of Unet related architecture. This paper proposes a new approach of using Unet++ with pretrained EfficientNet as backbone architecture for breast tumor cell nuclei segmentation and uses the multi-organ transfer learning approach to segment nuclei of breast tumor cells. We attempt to experiment and evaluate the performance of the network on the MonuSeg training dataset and Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) testing dataset, both are Hematoxylin and Eosin (H & E)-stained images. The results have shown that EfficientUnet++ architecture and the multi-organ transfer learning approach had outperformed other techniques and produced notable accuracy for breast tumor cell nuclei segmentation.
