Generation of hole-tones and the instability of circular impinging jets are investigated based on the frequency characteristics and the radiated sound field. The experiment is carried out with varying hole sizes, jet speeds and impinging distances. It is found that hole-tones occur by both the low-speed laminar jet and the high-speed turbulent jet, but not by the transient jet, while plate-tones without holes are produced only in the high-speed turbulent impinging jet. When the diameter ratio of the hole to the nozzle is nearly one, hole-tones occur most easily. At low speed, it is found that hole-tones are due to the symmetrical unstable jet and the impinging distance decreases with jet speed. And the Strouhal number and the sound pressure level increase with jet speed. At high speed, hole-tones show the same characteristics as plate-tones. It is found that the ratio of the convection speed varies with the Strouhal number and the jet speed.
Charged particle energization is an outstanding problem in space physics. This paper investigates the nonlinear dynamics of Alfve'n-cyclotron waves accompanying particle heating processes and the drift Alfv'en-cyclotron (or EMIC) instability associated with a current disruption event on 29 January 2008 observed with THEMIS satellite by means of a particle-in-cell simulation. The simulation shows that the drift Alfv'en-cyclotron instabilities are excited in two regimes, a relatively low frequency mode propagating in a quasi-perpendicular direction while the second high-frequency branch propagating in a predominantly parallel propagation direction, which is consistent with observation as well as earlier theories. It is shown that parametric decay processes lead to an inverse cascade of Alfv'en-cyclotron waves and the generation of ion-acoustic waves by decay instability. It is also shown that the nonlinear decay processes are accompanied by small perpendicular heating and parallel cooling of the protons, and a pronounced parallel heating of the electrons.
According to research currently developed by several authors (including the present ones) a multimode approach to the aeroelastic instability can be appropriate for suspension bridges with very long span and so with close natural frequencies. Extending that research, this paper deals in particular with: i) the role of along-wind modes, underlined also by means of the flutter mode representation; ii) the effects of a variation of the mean wind speed along the span. A characterisation of the response in the time domain by means of an energetic approach is also discussed.

The present study describes an investigation into the characteristics of combustion oscillation and its suppression instability of a silo type gas turbine combustor in commercial power plant. Combustion oscillation is occurred the combustor in near full load during operation. As a result of FFT analysis of the combustion dynamics, the frequency of the oscillation is analyzed as the 1'st longitudinal mode of acoustic resonance of the combustor. For suppress of the instability, combustion tuning with adjust of fuel valve schedule is carried out, which changes equivalent ratio of each burners. As the result, the oscillation is successfully reduced with meeting the level of NOx emission regulation.

The instability curve of a Rijke tube system was obtained accurately by following different paths of heat power and flow-rate for three regions and by defining its locus from the criterion based on the measured sound pressure levels. The unstable limits in the region of flow-rate lower than that at the minimal power are compared with previous data. To observe the effect of turbulence on the unstable limits, inflow turbulence was introduced by placing a bundle of circular cylinders upstream of the heating part ($50). The large-amplitude inflow fluctuation may delay the transition of the chamber acoustic mode to the unstable Bone even at a sufficient power.

In this study, an analysis program to assess the susceptibility of steam generator tubes due to the flow-induced vibration was developed. Analysis of fluid-elastic instability and random turbulence excitation for the U-tube bundle in CE-type steam generator was accomplished. The effective mass distribution along the U-tube was obtained to calculate the natural frequency and dynamic mode shape. Finally, stability ratios and rms vibration amplitude for selected tubes are obtained.

The mainly objectives of this study was a combustion dynamics and instability characteristics in a model dump type combustor which is scale down of GE 7FA+e DLN 2.6 gas turbine combustor with running at Seo-Inchon combined cycle power plant. Model gas turbine injector has 2-stage swirl vane and it's reduced 1/3 size of the original one. The shape of plenum and combustor were designed for similar acoustic characteristics. As the result, this research have been shows the peak frequency of model combustor was changed quarter-wave mode to Helmholtz resonator mode in plenum and longitudinal mode in dump combustor at unstable flame conditions caused by the different of combustor temperature and fuel-air mixture distributions.
The most important feature of the one-cycle control method is its excellent ability in line disturbance rejection. However, when it is used as a controller in dc-dc converters, it has an undesirable transient response. The voltage overshoot at the transient time, which usually exists in one-cycle controlled converters, is unwanted in many applications and it is sometimes hazardous. In this paper, it is shown that the combination of a one-cycle controller with a current mode controller, can improve the transient response and consequently the overshoot can be controlled. Therefore, the combined controller has the excellent line disturbance rejection of a one-cycle controller and the output current limiting capability of current mode controllers. Because in this scheme a one-cycle controller is the master controller, the problem of instability of current mode control, will not happen. By simulation and a practical prototype, the capability of the method is shown.
This paper concerns the application and demonstration of sliding mode observer for aeroelastic system, which is robust to model uncertainty including mass and stiffness of the system and various disturbances. The performance of a sliding mode observer is compared with that of a conventional Kalman filter to demonstrate robustness and disturbance decoupling characteristics. Aeroelastic instability may occur when an elastic structure is moving even in subcritical flow speed region. Simulation results using sliding mode observer are presented to control aeroelastic response of flapped wing system due to various external excitations as well as model uncertainty and sinusoidal disturbances in subcritical incompressible flow region.
In the development of a high speed and light weight manipulator, it is necessary to consider the structural elasticity of a robotic arm. The analysis of the infinite mode dynamic of robotic arm must be performed to obtain the finite mode modelling to achieve the feasible controller design of the robotic arm. The modelling procedure of the robotic arm is also illustrated. The controlled mode of the modelled dynamic can be derived by truncating the higher vibrational mode to result in the low order system for the sampling in the control signal is confined to the higher mode. And it is controlled by the pole assignment which can compensate the unmodelled dynamic effects. The unmodelled dynamic can result in the instability of the controlled system, which is known as spillover. The controller design of the low order system is simulated by the pole assignment and optimal control theory.
