  • The relationship between floor impact sound and vibration has been studied by field measurements, and the vibration modal characteristics have been analyzed. Vibration levels impacted by a standard heavy-weight impact source have been predicted according to the main design parameters using finite element method. Experimental results show that the dominant frequencies of the heavy impact sounds range below 100 Hz and that they are coincident with natural frequencies of the concrete slab. In addition, simple 2-dimensional finite element models are proposed to substitute 2 types of 3-dimensional models of complicated floor structural slabs those by The analytical result shows that the natural frequencies from first to fifth mode well correspond to those by experiments with an error of less than $12\%$, and acceleration peak value iscoincident with an error of less than $2\%$. Using the finite element model. vibration levels areestimated according to the design Parameters, slab thickness, compressive strength, and as a result, the thickness is revealed as effective to increase natural frequencies by $20\~30\%$ and to reduce the vibration level by 3$\~$4 dB per 30 mm of extra thickness.

  • In times of war or emergencies, weapon systems, such as radars, must receive stable power. This can be achieved using improved onboard portable power systems made of steel containers. However, a breakdown can occur in the event of random vibration during transportation via a vehicle or train. Electrical-power shortages or restrictions pose a significant threat to security. In this study, Composite Wheeled Vehicle(CWV) data and rail cargo data with Acceleration Spectral Density(ASD), specified in MIL-STD-810H METHOD 514.8, were interpreted as input data of the three-axis random vibration method using ANSYS 19.2. Modal analysis was performed up to 500 Hz, and deformations in modes 1 to 117 were calculated to utilize all ASD data. The maximum equivalent stress in the three-axis direction was obtained using a random vibration analysis. Similarly, the margin of safety was calculated using the derived equivalent stress and material properties. Overall, the analysis verified that the portable container designed for the power supply system satisfied the required vibration demands.

  • It is inevitable to use the distinct element method in the analysis of structural dynamics for stacked stone pagoda system. However, the experimental verification of analytical results produced by the discrete element method is not sufficient yet, and the theory of distinct element method is not universal in Korea. This study introduces how to model the stacked stone pagoda system using the distinct element method, and draws some considerations in the seismic analysis procedures. First, the rocking mode and sliding mode are locally mixed in the seismic responses. Second, the vertical stiffness and the horizontal stiffness on the friction surface have the greatest influence on the seismic behavior. Third, the complete seismic analysis of stacked stone pagoda system requires a set of the horizontal, vertical, and rotational velocity time histories of the ground. However, earthquake data monitored in Korea are limited to acceleration and velocity signals in some areas.

  • Most civil engineering structures, such as highway bridges, towers, power plants and offshore structures suffer structural damages over their service lives caused by adverse loading such as heavy transportation loads, machine vibrations, earthquakes, wind and wave forces. Especially, if excessive load would be acted on the structure, general or partial stiffness should be degraded suddenly and service lives should be shortened eventually For realistic damage assessment of these civil structures, System Identification method using only structure dynamic response data with unknown input excitation is required and thus becoming more challenging problem. In this paper, an improved Iterative Least Squares method is proposed, which seems to be very efficient and robust method, because only the dynamic response data such as acceleration, velocity and displacement is used without input data, and no information on the modal properties is required. The efficiency and robustness of the proposed method is proved by numerical problems and real single span beam model test.

  • In this paper, a hybrid vibration-impedance approaches is newly proposed to detect the occurrence of damage, the location of damage, and extent of damage in steel plate-girder bridges. The hybrid scheme mainly consists of three sequential phases: 1) to alarm the occurrence of damage, 2) to classify the alarmed damage, and 3) to estimate the classified damage in detail. Damage types of interest include flexural stiffness-loss in girder and bolts-loose in supports. In the first phase, the global occurrence of damage is alarmed by monitoring changes in acceleration features. In the second phase, the alarmed damage is classified into subsystems by recognizing patterns of impedance features. In the final phase, the location and the extent of damage are estimated by using modal strain energy-based damage index method and root mean square deviation method. The feasibility of the proposed system is evaluated on a laboratory-scaled steel plate-girder bridge model for which hybrid vibration-impedance signatures were measured for several damage scenarios.

  • In this study floor impact noise and structure acceleration response of bare concrete slabs were predicted by using Finite Element Analysis(FEA). Prediction results were compared with experimental results to prove the accuracy of numerical model. Acoustic absorption were addressed by using panel impedance coefficients with frequency characteristics and structural modal damping of numerical model were applied by modal testing results and analysis of prediction and test results. By using frequency response function, the floor acceleration and acoustic pressure responses for various impact sources were calculated at the same time. In the FEA, the natural frequencies and the shapes of vibration and acoustic modes can be estimated through the eigen-value analysis, and it can be visually seen the vibration and sound pressure field and the contribution of major modes.

  • Most damage identification methods for structural health monitoring developed to date utilize modal domain responses which require postprocessing and inevitably contain errors in transforming the domain of responses. In this paper, the feasibility of a damage identification method based on dynamics responses from moving loads is experimentally verified. The experiment is performed via applying periodic and non-periodic moving loads to a steel beam and acceleration and displacement responses of the beam is measured. The moving loads is applied using steel balls and the damage of a structure is simulated by saw-cutting the beam. The damage identification results using the measured responses show that the moving load response based damage identification method successfully identify all damages in the beam.

  • This paper discussed about Application Technique of Numerical Methods for large structure. The dynamic behaviours of a vehicle were investigated through finite element modelling. After dividing a vehicle body into three substructures, Basic Mass System was composed of 60 flexual modes which was obtained from the dynamic characteristics of each substructure using Modal Synthesis Method. Engine, transmission and rear axle, etc. were added to Basic Mass Model, consequently Full Mass System was constructed by 72 degree of freedoms. Full Mass System was analyzed over the frequency range 0.5-50.0 Hz under the loading conditions which were Stationary Gaussian Random Process. Results and discussions provided the guidelines to eliminate resonances among the parts and to improve the Ride Quality. The Absorbed Power was used as a standard to determine the Ride Quality. The RMS value of driver's vertical acceleration was obtained 0.423g from the basic model and 0.415g from the modified model.
