  • Mobile IP (MIP) and SIP are considered as important technologies to provide the macro mobility in the next generation mobile convergence networks which have heterogeneous access networks. Typically, MIP and SIP are more suitable for the non-real-time TCP connections and the real-time RTP/UDP sessions respectively, hence a handset which uses both of these sessions should simultaneously apply MIP and SIP to perform the efficient mobility management. Existing multi-layered mobility management schemes focus on the signalling order of each protocol. However, simple combining of two protocols cannot provide the performance enhancement of the mobility management. In this paper, a novel multi-layered mobility management algorithm using the combination of SIP and fast MIPv6 (FMIPv6) is proposed. FMIPv6 and SIP mobility is simultaneously performed to reduce the service interrupt time and to guarantee QoS requirement. The delay model is defined to analysis the performance of the algorithm and the simulation results show the performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • In this paper we have presented a network based high-speed handover protocol using NetLMM(Network based Localized Mobility Management) WG protocol in IETF(Internet Engineering Task Force). We use IEEE 802.21 MIHS(Media Independent Handover Services) for improving handover latency and we analysis proposed Fast NetLMM protocol performance using Fluid Flow Mobility Model. Evaluation results show that the Fast NetLMM protocol performance is better than other mobility management protocols.

  • An adaptive channel estimation technique for OFDM-based DTV receivers is proposed using a new mobility estimator. Sample mean techniques for channel estimation have displayed good performance in slow fading channels, because averaging reduces noise In channel estimation operation. This paper suggests an algorithm which selects the optimal number of symbols within which the sample mean of consecutive pilot data can be obtained. The designed mobility estimator determines the optimal number by comparing mobility variance and estimated noise valiance. The algorithm using the mobility estimator obtains an optimal channel function under time-invariant or time-variant multipath fading channels, thereby making the best BER performance.

  • Mobility management is an important issue in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) because location information of mobile nodes is frequently changed and it aggravates the performance in MANETs drastically. In this paper, we propose a fuzzy logic based mobility management scheme using group quorum system by considering the mobile nodes' locality in order to manage location information of mobile nodes in MANETs efficiently. The proposed scheme selects mobility databases adaptively from group quorum system by considering the degree of locality of a mobile node. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated by an analytical model and compared with that of existing mobility management scheme.

  • Routing protocols in Delay/Disruption Tolerant Networks(DTN) are important to enhance the performance of transmission delay and delivery success ratio. In this paper, we propose an efficient DTN routing algorithm, called "Nobility Pattern based Routing(MPR)", that controls the total number of transferred message copies based on mobility patterns of mobile nodes. We consider a realistic "Levy walk" mobility pattern that has a super-diffusive property which well represents human mobility pattern. We implemented a DTN simulator using ONE simulator for the proposed MPR algorithm and Levy walk mobility pattern. Simulation results show that mobility patterns are very important for accurate evaluation of DTN routing performance, and the proposed MPR enhances the routing performance of delivery delay and success delivery ratio under realistic mobility pattern.

  • PMIPv6(Proxy Mobile IPv6) is a network-based IP mobility management protocol, which can control the mobility without depending on the type of access system or the capability of mobile node. Combining it with SIP mobility, it can establish the route optimization effectively and ensure the terminal mobility and the session mobility. There are many literatures on PMIPv6-SIP in mobility management, but efficient performance analysis and mathematical modeling has not been standardized. For this, a new PMIPv6-SIP architecture is proposed to compare with Pure-SIP in terms of the handover delay and packet loss.

  • This paper proposes an efficient location management scheme for next-generation cellular mobile networks. In the proposed scheme, the users are classified into two classes according to their mobility patterns; high mobility users (HMU) and low mobility users (LMU). We design the intelligent location management strategy based on theme user mobility classes. The performance of the proposed scheme is compared with that of pure intelligent paging scheme by computer simulation. As a result, it is shown that the proposed scheme provides the better performance than the pure intelligent paging scheme.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to evaluate performances of mobile personal robots. A set of performance measures is proposed and the corresponding evaluation methods are developed. Different from industrial manipulators, personal robots need to be evaluated with its mobility, navigation, task and intelligent performance in environments where human beings exist. The proposed performance measures are composed of measures for mobility including vibration, repeatability, path accuracy and so on, as well as measures for navigation performance including wall following, overcoming doorsill, obstacle avoidance and localization. But task and intelligent behavior performances such as cleaning capability and high-level decision-making are not considered in this paper. To measure the proposed performances through a series of tests, we designed a test environment and developed measurement systems including a 3D Laser tracking system, a vision monitoring system and a vibration measurement system. We measured the proposed performances with a mobile robot to show the result as an example. The developed systems, which are installed at Korea Agency for Technology and Standards, are going to be used for many robot companies in Korea.

  • Various schemes for mobility are currently studied in ITU-T, 3GPP, IETF, and so on. Mobility support in NGN for seamless service is necessarily required. Currently proposed mechanisms are MIPv6, $IP^2$, and Q.MMF. However the performance comparison of all existing schemes is not examined as yet. That is, the existing methods need to be compared according to each performance parameter. So, in this paper, we investigate and compare the performances of MIPv6, $IP^2$, Q.MMF to location registration. In addition, this paper presents the performance comparison of handover latency times. For this, we use NS-2 simulator. As a result of analysis, $IP^2$ shown the best performance as it is measured the minimum time and cost. And it has low handover latency time in comparison with other mechanisms.

  • The central challenge in the design of ad-hoc networks is the development of dynamic routing protocol that efficiently finds route between mobile nodes. Several routing protocols such as DSR, AODV and DSDV have been proposed in the literature to facilitate communication in such dynamically changing network topology. In this paper, a Node Transition Probability (NTP) based routing algorithm, which determines stable routes using the received power from all other neighboring nodes is proposed. NTP based routing algorithm is designed and implemented using Global Mobile Simulator (GloMoSim), a scalable network simulator. The performance of this routing algorithm is studied for various mobility models and throughput, control overhead, average end-to-end delay, and percentage of packet dropped are compared with the existing routing protocols. This algorithm shows acceptable performance under all mobility conditions. The results show that this algorithm maximizes the bandwidth utilization during heavy traffic with lesser overhead.
