  • With emerging technologies on wireless networks and mobile computing environment, a number of researches have been carried out for ubiquitous computing. An important functional requirement of ubiquitous computing is to handle location data with ease. With the increase of accidents in large complex buildings. move attention is being paid to indoor spaces and evacuation. However, most currently used evacuation-related applications are simulation based on hypothetical data. Also, since they use non-georeferenced CAD data, it is not easy to integrate them with indoor positioning devices. With the recent progress of indoor positioning systems, the simulators can be enhanced to real-time evacuation systems. As a preliminary stage to make such systems possible, this study proposes using a georeferenced data and evacuation simulation. This study used GIS data and Cellular Automata theory an the algorithm for the movement of the evacuee.

  • With the recent advancement of vehicle wireless communication technology, many vehicular clouds have been proposed. The existing research focused on cloud services through data collection based on vehicular networks of mobile V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) and V2I (Vehicle-to-Infrastructure). In this paper, we present a vehicular datacenter model that utilizes the vehicle in the parking space as a resource for the datacenter. Also, we derive resource allocation strategy based on the expected execution time considering the leave rate of each vehicle in our vehicular datacenter model. Simulation results show that our proposed resource allocation strategies outperform the existing strategy in terms of mean execution time.

  • As VoIP systems move to wireless environments with much higher average packet loss rates than wired networks, it becomes less possible for the network to assure a reasonable QoS. So, real-time quality monitoring for mobile VoIP applications is an important issue to be explored. In this paper, we explore perceptual quality dependency on two parameters: the burst loss rate and average burst length. Also, we propose a simple 'moving average' approach with $\alpha$ aiming to measure those parameters on real-time basis. In order to find how accurately the two parameters measured estimate the real perceptual quality, we compare actual measured PESQ scores with estimated value by matching the measured quality metric to the trained MOS table. Finally, we propose the quality-based accounting system, which can set obvious continuities between quality and billing.

  • This paper is a first-hand summary on our comprehensive live trial of cellular-assisted device-to-device (D2D) communications currently being ratified by the standards community for next-generation mobile broadband networks. In our test implementation, we employ a full-featured 3GPP LTE network deployment and augment it with all necessary support to provide realtime D2D connectivity over emerging Wi-Fi-Direct (WFD) technology. As a result, our LTE-assisted WFD D2D system enjoys the required flexibility while meeting the existing standards in every feasible detail. Further, this paper provides an account on the extensive measurement campaign conducted with our implementation. The resulting real-world measurements from this campaign quantify the numerical effects of D2D functionality on the resultant system performance. Consequently, they shed light on the general applicability of LTE-assisted WFD solutions and associated operational ranges.

  • Where a wireless LAN and a cellular network coexist, a mobile node has to experience vertical handoffs to move between them. Immediately after the vertical handoffs, TCP must need adaptation latency to adjust its congestion window to the proper size at a newly arrived network to use full of a new end-to-end available bandwidth. Even though SACK TCP has the best performance among other regular TCPs in the previous studies, it still cannot use full of the new available bandwidth quickly due to its inefficient increasing way of congestion window. BIC TCP, that becomes a popular TCP in long fat networks, has great feature working well against vertical handoffs by increasing congestion window exponentially with TCP connection sustained. In this paper, we derive adaptation latency of SACK TCP and BIC TCP numerically, and verify them by simulations. We also find that the shorter adaptation latency of BIC TCP produces higher throughput than SACK TCP on vertical handoffs. Consequently, to get higher performance on vertical handoff situations, we propose to use BIC TCP.

  • In shipyard site, a ship is constructed by integrating lots of modules that are made in several sites with different capabilities and specifications. Recently, it needs to make a shipyard to be smart communicating various multimedia information with wired and wireless broadband networks between hierarchical shipyards. In this paper, we propose an additional function of an LTE femtocell local gateway at a remote shipyard, an information exchange method between hierarchical shipyards, and an offload method to separate the general traffic. To reduce traffic of duplicated requests in shipyard, we apply a D2D communication scheme for supporting communication between shipyard equipments without IP service network. Hence, it is expected to increase the productivity of shipyard industry with mobile communications, D2D and broadband Internet technologies.

  • As the wireless Internet become more widely accessible, variety of Internet services can be used without limitation of location. However, existing mobility management methods such as MIP and PMIP of IETF requires the load of heavy protocol stack on the mobile nodes or the addition of components such as LMA and MAG. In this paper, we proposed the location management technique in the PMIPv6 and Fast Handover technique. according to the moving pattern of the node, the location management technique proposed in order to adjust the paging area dynamically. The Fast Handover technique applied MIH technology and it reduced the handover signal processing time between heterogeneous network. The location management cost in the environment which the node moves in order to evaluate this and handover delay time was calculate. The proposal technique was efficiently more evaluated than PMIPv6 with the smallest 29% and maximum 83%.

  • UWB signal with high resolution capability can be used to estimate ranging and positioning in wireless personal area networks. The clock frequency differences of nodes have serious affects on asynchronous ranging methods to estimate locations of mobile nodes. The specification of high rate UWB describes successive TWR method with the estimation of a relative clock frequency offset. In this paper, we complete the ranging equations using relative frequency offset and time information, and propose a method to estimate the exact frequency offsets. We evaluate the ranging algorithms with simulation. The results show that the performances of the algorithms using frequency offsets are very close without noise. But, at noise environment, the method of exact frequency offsets shows better performance than that of relative frequency offsets.

  • 802.11p WAVE is the next-generation wireless communication that can make Ad-hoc network communication possible for Vehicle-to-Vehicle. GBSR protocol, one of the 802.11p WAVE protocols, mainly focuses on improvements in networks that have a tendency to disconnect. However, it does not consider the transmission time and velocity of a packet thus, there is a disadvantage of there being a delay in the transmission velocity, in urgent situations like car accidents, emergency patients transportation and crimes. In this paper, we proposed A-GBSR protocol for transmission of a packet to mobile node which has a high speed through the improved beacon message and Adaptive Neighbor list Management that are considering of the GBSR protocol transmission velocity.

  • Geocasting, a variant of the conventional multicasting problem, is one of communication type in which the data packets are delivered to a group of all nodes within a specified geographical region (i.e., the geocasting region) and is called location-based multicasting(LBM)(l). An Ad-hoc network is a dynamically reconfigurable and temporary wireless network where all mobile devices using batteries as energy resources cooperatively maintain network connectivity without central administration or the assistance of base stations. Consequently, the technique to efficiently consume the limited amounts of energy resources is an important problem so that the system lifetime is maximized. In this paper, we propose a LBPA(Location-Based Power Aware) geocasting algorithm that selects energy-aware neighbor to route a packet towards the target region In Ad-hoc network environments. The method Is such that the energy consumption is balanced among the nodes in proportion to their energy reserves. Through the simulations, the proposed LBPA algorithm shows better results, that is, as good as 40% on the average over the conventional LBM algorithm in terms of the network lifetime.
