  • Fingerprinting scheme supports the copyright protection to track redistributors of digital content using cryptographic techniques. Fingerprinting schemes should guarantee buyer's anonymity and asymmetry for their privacy. Most of known fingerprinting schemes adopt public-key cryptosystems to achieve asymmetry and discrete logarithm problem or graph isomorphism problem to achieve anonymity. However, these schemes are not suited in mobile environment because of the drawbacks of requiring high computational complexity. In this paper, we propose an efficient fingerprinting scheme for mobile environment to provide not only asymmetry of the protocol but also transaction anonymity of the buyer. By employing symmetric encryption to encrypt the digital content and adopting agent to perform the protocols, the efficiency of the proposed scheme is improved.

  • Research on highly abstracted system modeling and simulation has received a great deal of attention as of the concept of platform based design is becoming ubiquitous. From a practical design point of view, such modeling and simulation must consider the following: (i) fast simulation speed and cycle accuracy, (ii) early availability for early stage software development, (iii) inter-operability with external tools for software development, and (iv) reusability of the models. Unfortunately, however, all of the previous works only partially addresses the requirements, due to the inherent conflicts among the requirements. The objective of this study is to develop a new system design methodology to effectively address the requirements mentioned above. We propose a new transaction-level system modeling methodology, called ViP (Virtual Platform). We propose a two-step approach in the ViP method. In phase 1, we create a ViP for early stage software development (before RTL freeze). The ViP created in this step provides high speed simulation, lower cycle accuracy with only minor modeling effort.(satisfying (ii)). In phase 2, we refine the ViP to increase the cycle accuracy for system performance analysis and software optimization (satisfying (i)). We also propose a systematic ViP modeling flow and unified interface scheme based on utilities developed for maximizing reusability and productivity (satisfying (ii) and (iv)) and finally, we demonstrate VChannel, a generic scheme to provide a connection between the ViP and the host-resident application software (satisfying (iii)). ViP had been applied to several System-on-a-chip (SoC) designs including mobile applications, enabling engineers to improve performance while reducing the software development time by 30% compared to traditional methods.

  • File systems for flash memory that is widely used as a storage device for mobile devices should provide not only high-performance data reads and writes but also a guarantee on the data integrity even on a power failure. In this paper, we explain the design and implementation of a file system for flash memory that considers flash memory's physical characteristics and the data layout in the file system to give an optimized write performance. This file system guarantees the reliability against various system failures including a power failure by using the transaction concept in write processing. In addition, the file system minimizes the memory usage by using a simple static mapping. In the paper, we also describe the implementation of the file system and compare its performance with other existing flash memory ille systems.

  • Due to the development of mobile technologies, the carrier (telecommunications) billing service market is rapidly growing. carrier (telecommunications) billing service allows users to make on-line purchases through mobile-billing. Users find this particularly convenient because the payment acts as a credit transaction. Furthermore, the system is commonly believed to be secure through its use of SMS (Short Message Service) authentication and a real-time transaction history to confirm the transaction. Unfortunately, there is a growing number of fraudulent transactions threaten the future of this system. The more well documented types of security breaches involves hackers intercepting the authentication process. By contaminating the device with security breaching applications, hackers can secretly make transactions without notifying users until the end of month phone bill. This study sheds light on the importance of this societal threat and suggests solutions. In particular, "secure" systems need to be more proactive in addressing the methods hackers use to make fraudulent transactions. Our research partially covers specific methods to prevent fraudulent transactions on carrier billing service providers' systems. We discuss about the proposed improvements such as complement of electronic payment systems, active promotion for fraudulent transactions enhanced monitoring, fraud detection and introduce a new authentication service. This research supports a future of secure communications billing services, which is essential to expanding new markets.

  • Mobile computing environment is subject to the constraints of bounded network bandwidth, frequently encountered disconnections, insufficient battery power, and system asymmetry. To meet these constraints and to gain high scalability, data broadcasting has been proposed on data transmission techniques. However, updates made to the database in any broadcast cycle are deferred to the next cycle in order to appear to mobile clients with lower data currency. The main goal of this paper is to enhance the transaction performance processing and database currency. The main approach involves decomposing the main broadcast cycle into a number of sub-cycles, where data items are broadcasted as they were originally sequenced in the main cycle while appearing in the most current versions. A concurrency control method AOCCRBSC is proposed to cope well with the cycle decomposition. The proposed method exploits predeclaration and adapts the AOCCRB method by customizing prefetching, back-off, and partial backward and forward validation techniques. As a result, more than one of the conflicting transactions is allowed to commit at the server in the same broadcast cycle which empowers the processing of both update and read-only transactions and improves data currency.

  • The performance of optimistic concurrency control schemes which are generally used for Mobile computing is very sensitive to the transaction abort rate. Even if the abort probability can be reduced by back-shifting the timestamp from the time of requesting a commit, some transactions continuously perform unnecessary operations after the transactions accessed write-write conflicting data. In this paper, we propose an optimistic protocol that can abort the transactions during the execution phase by using the write notification approach. The proposed protocol enhances the performance of the optimistic concurrency control by reducing the unnecessary operations. In addition, we present a simulation study that compares our schemes with the timestamp based certification scheme. This study shows that our scheme outperforms the timestamp based certification scheme.

  • Recently, flash memories are one of best media to support portable computer's storages in mobile computing environment. We propose a new transaction recovery scheme for a flash memory database environment which is based on a flash media file system. We improved traditional shadow paging schemes by reusing old data pages which are supposed to be invalidated in the course of writing a new data page in the flash file system environment. In order to reuse these data pages, we exploit deferred cleaning list structure in our flash memory shadow paging (FMSP) scheme. FMSP scheme removes the additional storage overhead for keeping shadow pages and minimizes the I/O performance degradation caused by data page distribution phenomena of traditional shadow paging schemes. We also propose a simulation model to show the performance of FMSP. Based on the results of the performance evaluation, we conclude that FMSP outperforms the traditional scheme.

  • In this paper, we design and implement Wireless Transaction Protocol(WTP) and evaluate it for wireless transaction processing in mobile computing environments. The design and implementation of WTP are based on the coroutine model that might be suitable for light-weight portable devices. We test the compatibility between our product and the other products such as Nokia, Kannel and WinWAP For the evaluation of WTP, we use an Internet simulator that can arbitrary generate random wireless errors based on the Gilbert model. In our experiment, the performance of WTP is measured and compared to those of Transmission Control Protocol(TCP) and TCP for Transactions. The experiment shows that WTP outperforms the other two protocols for wireless transaction processing in terms of throughput and delay. Especially, WTP shows much higher performance In ease of high error rate and high probability of burst errors. This comes from the fact that WTP uses a small number of packets to process a transaction compared to the other two protocols and introduces a fixed time interval for retransmission instead of the exponential backoff algorithm. The experiment also shows that the WTP performance is optimized when the retransmission counter is set to 5 or 6 in case of high burst error rate.

  • The current study examines whether consumers' perceived usefulness of and trust in the integrated mobile payments services positively influence consumer loyalty to the payments system as well as to the online shopping websites where they have used the payments system. Moreover, the study investigates the effects of individual characteristics and brand awareness of the provider of mobile payments on perceived usefulness and trust. Online survey was administered to consumers ranging in age from 20s to 40s. Data analysis reveals that as consumers' perceived usefulness of and trust in the mobile payments system positively influence consumer loyalty to mobile payments and shopping mall websites. The results of the study suggests that e-commerce's user interface design, particularly the transaction system, should receive greater attention as a basic web element of e-commerce building rather than a set of plug-ins or so.
