  • Mobile cloud computing (MCC) is not just extensions of cloud concepts into mobile environments, but the service technologies that all mobile devices including smartphone can use the desired services by using cloud technology without the constraints of time and space. Currently, a lot of works on mobile cloud computing have been actively researching, whereas user interfaces are not so much researched. The main features and contributions of this paper are as follows. First, develop UI considering UX that is different from conventional interfaces supported by SPICE. Second, combine two button interface into one button interface when keyboard is used in mobile cloud computing clients. Third, develop a mouse interface suitable for mobile cloud computing clients. Fourth, in mobile cloud computing client, solve a problem that the selection of button/files/folder has at the corner. Finally, in mobile cloud computing clients we change mouse scroll mapping functions from volume button to scroll interface in touch-screen. The results of performance evaluation shows that users can input easily with the increased and fixed mouse interface. Since shortcut keys instead of the complex button keys of keyboard are provided, the input with 3-6 steps is reduced into 1 step, which can simply support complex keys and mouse input for users.

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze priority of the elderly user interface (UI) evaluation criteria based on user's lifestyle. Since the elderly population will occupy over 20% of the all Korean population in the near future, we need to know older users' needs and information because elderly users will be main customers in the super-aged society. This paper investigated the definition of elderly users and characteristics demographically, socio-economically, and physically/cognitively. A total of 238 questionnaires from older users were analyzed based on a segmentation table for the elderly developed by the previous study. According to factor analysis and cluster analysis, 6 types of lifestyle and 4 groups of the elderly users were classified, respectively. The priority of UI evaluation criteria for large electronic home appliances and mobile products was analyzed by analyses of variance (ANOVAs). The results indicated that the priority of (physical, emotional, and cognitive) UI criteria was significantly different among elderly users' lifestyles for both home appliances and mobile products. Consequently, the results of this study may help the company develop some competitive silver products and give higher satisfaction to the elderly users by suggesting different priority of UI evaluation criteria according to the target elderly group. The results may also contribute to revitalize national economy by significantly increasing senior market shares.

  • A smart phone has an error if we design games on it because smart phone should be able to have input and output simultaneously through the screen. Using the existing layout of the game as a base for research, the layout was divided to four categories that are information area, informational appearance area, operation area and inutility area. Given the research results, we developed an authoring tool to design games for smart phones. Moreover, we applied the authoring tool to develop games and effectively reduce the developing time.

  • This paper analyzes the design and usability of maternal notebook mobile application and suggests the improvement direction of the application. The researcher compared and analyzed the functions of maternal notebook applications, conducted user interviews and expert evaluations. The conclusions of this study are the use of appropriate information volume, proportional screen division focusing on main functions, the use of GNB format of main menus, the prohibition of double menu configuration, the use of color consistent with the image of the service, the use of few font sizes, the use of appropriate colors in typography, the use of rich icons with uniform design, card format, list format, but also timeline and infographic forms that make rich user interface design. Maternal notebook application research is expected to be an important reference for research on similar mobile applications with complex functions such as information provision, user history, and community, along with improved research in healthcare design.

  • The recent small-scaled family form is making a great influence on sharing pictures of their children with family as well. As parents are usually taking pictures of their children with their smart-phones, the form of sharing pictures with families through SNS or text messages or uploading pictures of their children in mobile mini-homepage is becoming prominent these days. But when events of an each family member taking pictures occur, such as in 'the hundredth day party' or 'first birthday party' and exchange them through text messages or SNS, it would be difficult to gather their children's picture and view them all together other than the ones that they took themselves as it is difficult to send each and every picture. Also, another problem of managing pictures occur because the source of picture all differ from each other. There fore, to solve these problems, this study intends to suggest a co-family managerial photo management mobile application UI for family members to participate in gathering and organizing pictures that they took with their own smart-phones in a specific space and produce a mobile album.

  • In this study, we developed mobile contents and mobile learning system for learning of english presentation based on Android platform. First, the application including contents transfer system which enables contents run on Android platform was developed for learning of English presentation. Second, presentation contents which will be applied on the application were manufactured. The contents developed in this study are for learning English presentations. The contents are classified into two parts; Part 1 is for basic English presentations, and Part 2 is for advanced English presentations. Each part is made up with 9 units, and each unit is composed differently by topics. The number of whole chapter for both parts is 51. We analyzed the questionnaire responses with respect to UI satisfaction and satisfaction of the learning experience. The UI satisfaction results showed that 85% of the participants were satisfied at an ordinary or higher level with our system. And The satisfaction of the learning experience results showed that 95% of the participants were satisfied at the ordinary or higher level with our system.

  • With the recent advance in smartphones, users are allowed to use mobile applications anytime anywhere, and change their way to interact with smart environment and people. As a result, the need for developing context-aware applications on smartphones has a great attention from users and developers. This paper proposes a context-aware framework for supporting UI/UX of smartphones. The proposed framework collects a wide range of sensory data from smartphones and allows developers to analyze and model context models for their desired apps. In addition, it also supports real-time inference within the apps to make them to adapt to context. In order to show effectiveness of the proposed framework, we introduce two smartphone apps: context-aware home screen and automatic detection of smartphone problem use. Therefore, we expect that the proposed framework will help developers easily implement their apps with respect to context-awareness.
