Academic libraries are trying to develop fully mobile web sites and mobile applications so that users can access to their services even using mobile devices. As the mobilization trends of library services increase in quantity, we need to more focus on what mobile services users want, ultimately for the growth with quality. This study seeks to explore users' needs and uses of mobile library services and then suggests solutions for improving the mobile services in academic libraries. This study conducted on and off-line surveys with 608 students from two universities, which have provided active mobile services with both a mobile web site and an application. The questionnaire was designed to elicit information on respondents' frequency of mobile library visit, the purpose of visit, the reason to use/not use, how to access to the services, the preferred types of the services, satisfaction and dissatisfaction factors, and urgently needed improvements. Based on the findings, this study discussed strategies to improve the quality of mobile services and to increase in users' visit.
Mobile banking service has emerged as an important profit source for both banks and mobile phone service companies. However, the growth of the mobile banking service is behind the expectation of banks and mobile phone companies. One plausible explanation for this laggard diffusion of mobile banking may be the lack of consumers' initial trust on the service. Therefore, this study investigates the critical factors in building trust and intention to use mobile banking services. Our research results show that propensity-to-trust, structural assurance, and relative advantages of services have significant impacts on consumers' initial trust in mobile banking service Furthermore, initial trust in mobile banking service is a critical factor for adopting mobile banking services Contrary to our expectation, however, reputation of banks and mobile phone companies are not significant in attracting consumers to mobile banking services.
As an extension of Technology Acceptance Models (TAM), the relative importance of perceived usefulness (PU) and perceived ease of use (PEU) in adopting two different mobile services are examined using service compatibility and user trust as moderating variables. This research shows that PEU is a relatively more important factor in the adoption of new mobile services when the new mobile services are highly compatible with existing services, while trust is an important influential factor in the adoption of services with a relatively low service compatibility. Trust does not significantly change the relative importance of PEU in the adoption of highly compatible mobile services, while the user's trust changes the importance of PU in the adoption process for the mobile services with relatively low service compatibility.
Mobile technologies and services have become one of the inevitable parts of people's lives and mobile businesses have also been widespread. Popular mobile internet services through cell phones have made people in the financial industry consider that 'mobile' is promising. Nevertheless, there have been little studies of mobile services in the financial industry and most of the studies have been concentrated on internet services. The main purpose of this study is to investigate on the determinants of intention to use mobile banking. To achieve the goal, based on the theoretical backgrounds of the Technology Acceptance Model(TAM). Survey questionnaires were distributed via post & email to 500 users who have been experiences with cell phone and have an account. Out of 291 responded questionnaires, 275 data sets were available for statistical analysis with SPSS 10.1. Research hypotheses are analyzed by LISREL 8.30. Factor analysis identified seven external factors : (1) convenience, (2) cost, (3) unusefulness, (4) riskiness, (5) personal innovativeness (6) users' self-efficacy (7) experience of mobile services. Results of this study show that convenience, unusefulness, riskiness, personal innovativeness and experience of mobile services have significant effects on intention to use mobile banking . Much of the previous researches have dealt with service provider only and have focused on mobile internet. In this regard, when it comes to a viewpoint that regards the mobile banking sector as a new sector of mobile businesses. This study may provide a guideline to activate of mobile banking acceptance.
The high-speed mobile Internet has recently been expanded, many attractive services are provided. However, these services require some form of security-related technology. This paper outlines Japanese mobile services and exposits some mobile security topics including mobile spam, mobile malware, mobile DRM system, mobile WiMAX security, and mobile key management.
It is expected that the next generation mobile communication system will be a service-driven developed system capable to realize the human-centric mobile convergence services. and it is different from the technology-driven development approach of the second and the third generation mobile communication systems. As a preliminary research work on such service-driven system development approach for the next generation mobile communication system. we developed the scenario based service analysis process (2SAP) framework to derive core service technologies and functionalities. In this paper. we propose the next generation mobile convergence service business model creation methodology based on research results of the 2SAP framework. To achieve this goal, we first establish a service model contains several components such as infrastructures. operations. and provision of services that are indispensible for providing next generation mobile services. Then, the next generation mobile services and its corresponding business models can be created by adding service and value flows to the developed service model after defining necessary components of business model including actors, their relationships, and roles.
Mobile telecom markets have dramatically increased in the last decade due to a remarkable subscriber base growth. The diffusion patterns of the services are a major concern for mobile carriers preparing those new services. We assume that the diffusion patterns of those services will be similar to those of previous mobile services, and discovering the diffusion patterns of those services is an essential task of mobile carriers for preparing the next mobile services. This study attempts to classify some groups which show similar diffusion patterns of mobile services. Using a traditional diffusion model, this study estimates diffusion patterns of twenty five western European countries. The estimation is based on the monthly penetration ratio of those countries from 1993 to 2004. Based on the estimation, the cluster analysis discovers that there are two different countries groups in terms of mobile diffusion pattern: high imitation countries and low imitation countries. The critical point for classifying the two groups in terms of imitation effect was 0.90. The results provide the basis for developing a causal relationship model which explains the different diffusion pattern of mobile services and planning new networks for the advanced mobile services.
Purpose - This study aims to provide a brief understanding of usability and its extended models with TAM as well as identifying additional determinants that had been suggested in previous studies on mobile services. Research design, data, and methodology - Empirical data were collected by conducting a field survey of potential mobile application service users. The call for participation was also made in mobile related application issues, which were widely discussed. Result - The ease of use and usefulness had a significantly positive influence on attitude and intention. It also was revealed that added value services can offer practical value to customers. Thus, positive attitudes toward the adoption of services by customers are present when they perceive higher usefulness and ease of use of mobile application services. Conclusion - It was indicated that customers who are more inclined to try new products or who have a higher demand for new things tend to think about those functionalities and added value mobile application services from the perspective of usefulness and ease of use and operation.
Mobile devices are widely accepted as a convenient machine which provides computing capability as well we cell phone capability. Because of limited resources on mobile devices, complex applications could not be deployed on the devices. Service-based mobile applications (SMAs) can provide a solution to overcome the limitation by subscribing cloud services. Since SMAs have complex structures than standalone applications, it is challenging to develop high quality SMAs, to manage both services and mobile applications, and to implement automated billing for subscribed services. Therefore, there is a great demand for a platform for super mobile computing, which supports all key activities in managing life cycle of SMAs. In this paper, we present technical aspects of a platform which is under development; Super Mobile Autonomous Reliable plaTform (SMART). We believe that it provides a number of practical features which are essential in supporting life-cycle of SMAs; development, deployment, management, and operation.
Convergence services are very important to mobile operators in next generation mobile networks. However, mobile operators cannot deal with all convergence services because there are numerous convergence services. Thus, they should select and develop main technologies to provide convergence services which are areas to grow our business. In this paper, we introduce basic technologies to provide convergence services and then present some evaluation models to select an important area and technology.
