  • SNS on the mobile platform is an essential element and tool for communication and has become a part of life for many people. Having been accustomed to non-face-to-face communication, people today have chosen to use emoticons instead of text to express their feelings and the use of emoticons is constantly growing. This is because the emoticons in various styles of drawings and movements can evoke emotional and sentimental reactions in users and express their tastes in addition to feelings. The current study was conducted to analyze the use of initial emoticon characters released by two most leading SNS platforms in Korea--Kakao for Kakao Talk and Naver for Line--and their expansion to various platform businesses. Based on the cases of the two companies, it discussed the development and goals of Korea-made emoticons in the future as cultural contents.

  • As social distancing strengthened after the COVID-19 incident, people looked for things they could do alone. Additionally, as people have more financial resources, they purchase products they had previously considered purchasing, and the phenomenon of giving gifts to oneself has also appeared. Accordingly, this study analyzed fashion product reviews of KakaoTalk Gift, the service to exchange gift via SNS mobile app, to discover the phenomenon of self-gifting and the differences from interpersonal-gifting. For post-hoc data, in collected 18,354 pieces after excluding unnecessary data using a Python-based web crawling technique. The self-gifting behavior of KakaoTalk Gift different from the previous study for self-gift. Regardless of the gift-giving contexts, it determines that most self-gift products are material items. There are differences in product types and price levels when choosing gifts for others and oneself. As a self-gift, people typically buy luxury jewelry and branded bags/wallets to wear and show off. As interpersonal, among fashion products, people usually buy beauty products that reflect less personal tastes. When gift-giving to others, people buy products to appropriate prices to reduce the burden on both. When gift-giving to oneself, people buy wanted products regardless of the price. This study is significant because it suggests a new direction in self-gift research by limited online places to give gifts.

  • As mobile shopping has increased in the new media age, fashion consumers' decision making and product consumption processes have changed. The volume of consumer-driven information has expanded since media and social networking sites have enabled consumers to share information they obtain. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors affecting information searching strategies and information sharing about fashion products. An online survey collected data from 466 respondents, relating to the influence of product price level and consumer SNS commitment level on information search and information sharing. Experimental design of three product price level and two consumer SNS commitment level was used. Analysis of the data identified factors in fashion information searching as ongoing searching, prepurchase web portal information search, and prepurchase marketing information search. For low-price fashion products, prepurchase product-detail influenced intention to share information. For mid-priced products, ongoing search significantly affected intention to share information. Both ongoing search and prepurchase marketing information search showed significant effects for high-price products. Consumers who are more committed to SNS engaged in significantly more searching in all aspects of information search factors. Significant interaction effect was detected for consumer SNS commitment level and product price level. When consumers with low consumer SNS commitment search for information on lower-priced fashion products, they are less likely do a prepurchase web portal information search.

  • Diverse research topics relating to Social Network Services (SNS) such as, social affective factors in relationships among internet users, social capital value of SNS, comparing attributes why users are intending to participate in SNS, user's lifestyle and their preferences, and the exploratory seeking potential of SNS as a social capital need to be focused on. However, these researches that have been undertaken only consider facts at a particular period of the changing computing environment. In accordance with this indispensability, the integrated view on what technical, social and business characteristics and attributes need to be acknowledged. The purpose of this study is to analyze the evolving attributes and characteristics of SNS from Web 1.0 to Mobile web 2.0 through the Web 2.0 and Mobile 1.0 period. Based on the relevant literature, the attributes that drive the changing technological, social and business aspects of SNS have been developed and analyzed. This exploratory study analyzed major attributes and relationships between SNS and users by changing the paradigms which represented each period. It classified and chronicled each period by representing paradigms and deducted the attributes by considering three aspects such as technological, social and business administration. The major findings of this study are, firstly, the web based computing environment has been changed into the platform attribute for users in the aspect of technology. Users can only read, listen and view information through the web site in the early stages, but now it is possible that users can create, modify and distribute all kinds of information. Secondly, the few knowledge producers of web services have been changed into a collective intelligence by groups of people in the aspect of society. Information authority has been distributed and there is no limit to its spread. Many businesses recognized the potential of the SNS and they are considering how to utilize these advantages toward channel of promotion and marketing. • Generally speaking, user behavior in the post-adoption period is different from that in the pre-adoption period. Users come to make on their experiences of IT use whether they will continue to use it or not. Most theories about the user behaviors in the pre-adoption period are limited in describing them after adoption since they do not consider user's experiences of using the adopted IT and the beliefs formed by those experiences. Therefore, in this study, we explore user's experiences and beliefs such as familiarity, satisfaction and habits in the post-adoption period and examine how they affect user's intention to continue in using Mobile Social Network Service. Through literature reviews, we proposed the conceptual model to explain the role of users' habits in continuance of IT post-adoption stage. Then, we examine the impact of the constructs to affect the intention to continue using the Mobile SNS. The results show that the intention to continue to use Mobile SNS is strongly influenced by users' habits, satisfaction and familiarity; users' habits is strongly influenced by satisfaction and familiarity; satisfaction is strongly influenced by familiarity.

  • Recently, the traffic volume of mobile communications increases rapidly and the small-cell is one of the solutions using two offload schemes, i.e., local IP access (LIPA) and selected IP traffic offload (SIPTO), to reduce the end-to-end delay and amount of mobile data traffic in the core network (CN). However, 3GPP describes the concept of LIPA and SIPTO and there is no decision algorithm to decide the path from source nodes (SNs) to destination nodes (DNs). Therefore, this paper proposes a dynamic mobile data traffic offload scheme using small-cells to decide the path based on the SN and DN, i.e., macro user equipment, small-cell user equipment (SUE), and multimedia server, and type of the mobile data traffic for the real-time and non-real-time. Through analytical models, it is shown that the proposed offload scheme outperforms the conventional small-cell network in terms of the delay of end-to-end mobile data communications and probability of the mobile data traffic in the CN for the heterogeneous networks.

  • With the rapid development of Social Network Service and with the diversification of user needs, new types of image-based SNS have emerged. Image-based SNS provides customized service to meet users' specified contents needs that have yet to be satisfied in conventional relation-based SNS like Facebook, leading the trend of service diversification. Unlike text-based SNS that has inconvenient view on a small mobile screen, image-based SNS provides the communication way focused on simple text message and image, and thus the main users of the image-based SNS are young people in their 20s who get accustomed to images, rather than text messages. Accordingly, the functions and roles of SNS UI have varied, and usability has been more important. With the users in their 20s who use image-based SNS, this study tried to look into the usability of the image-based SNS. To do that, heuristic evaluation method was applied to find UI problems. The main factors constituting usability were extracted, and user evaluation method was redesigned. Aside from the satisfaction measurement, this study conducted and analyzed a questionnaire survey with users in their 20s who used actual image-based SNS. This study analyzed usability factors that influenced of image-based SNS users. The analysis results are considered to be used as a fundamental material to improve usability in the process of developing social media service.
