  • Hierarchical Mobile 1Pv6(HM1Pv6) have been proposed by IETF(Internet Engineering Task Force) beginning from Mobile 1Pv6 for mobility support in IP networks, however these researches relying on client based mobility support have not been drawn attention due to excessive consumption of wireless resources and long handover delay. In this paper, we propose the Router-based Binding Update(RBU) scheme to solve problems in existing client-based mobility support schemes. The router registers location information of mobile nodes through Neighbor Discovery protocol without additional codes for the RBU scheme to a terminal operated by existing HMlPv6. By using this the RBU scheme is designed so that it can support partial nupport based mobility and reduce handover latency rather than using HMIPv6. It is analysed and compared with existing HMIPv6 to verify efficiency of the RBU scheme. As a result, the RBU scheme has outperformed existing HMIPv6 by 15% in terms of macro handover delay especially when long delay on wireless links exists.

  • Recently, Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) has received much attention as a mobility management protocol in next-generation all-IP mobile networks. While the current research related to PMIPv6 mainly focuses on providing efficient handovers for unicast-based applications, there has been relatively little interest in supporting multicast services with PMIPv6. To provide support for multicast services with PMIPv6, there are two alternative approaches called Mobile Access Gateway (MAG)-based subscription and Local Mobility Anchor (LMA)-based subscription. However, MAG-based subscription causes a large overhead for multicast joining and LMA-based subscription provides non-optimal multicast routing paths. The two approaches may also cause a high packet loss rate. In this paper, we propose an efficient PMIPv6-based multicast protocol that aims to provide an optimal delivery path for multicast data and to reduce handover delay and packet loss rate. Through simulation studies, we found that the proposed protocol outperforms existing multicast solutions for PMIPv6 in terms of end-to-end delay, service disruption period, and the number of lost packets during handovers.

  • In this paper, we propose the address allocation algorithm in hybrid Mobile ad-hoc network (MANET). Most of proposed address autoconfiguration algorithms are node based. Node based address autoconfiguration algorithms are inefficient. Because the node based algorithms waste bandwidth and consume much battery in mobile ad-hoc networks. we present the address allocation algorithm using internet gateway based address autoconfiguration by modifing the IPv6 stateless address autoconfiguration protocol. We use the network simulator NS-2 in our experiments. The simulation result shows reducing network traffic and saving battery.

  • To prevent performance degradation of TCP due to packet losses in the smooth handoff by the route optimization extension of Mobile IP protocol, a buffering of packets at a base station is needed. A buffering of packets at a base station recovers those packets dropped during handoff by forwarding buffered packets at the old base station to the mobile user. But, when the mobile user moves to a congested base station in a new foreign subnetwork, those buffered packets forwarded by the old base station are dropped and TCP transmission performance of a mobile user in the congested base station degrades due to increased congestion by those forwarded burst packets. In this paper, considering the general case that a mobile user moves to a congested base station, we analyze the influence of packet buffering on TCP performance according to handoff arrival distribution for Drop-tail and RED (Random Early Detection) buffer management schemes. Simulation results show that RED scheme can reduce the congestion increased by those forwarded burst packets comparing Drop-Tail, but RED scheme cannot avoid Global Synchronization due to forwarded burst packets by the old base station and new buffer management scheme to avoid it is needed in Mobile IP based networks.

  • In this paper, VoIP(Voice over Internet Protocol) transmission performance for MANET(Mobile Ad-hoc Networks) is improved and analyzed with packet aggregation scheme which is aggregating some of short length packets to one large packet and sending to networks. VoIP simulator based on NS(Network Simulator)-2 is implemented and used to measure performance of VoIP traffic transmission. In this simulation, VoIP traffics are generated with parameters of some codes such as G.711, G.729A, GSM.AMR and iBLC. MOS(Mean Opinion Score), end-to-end network delay, packet loss rate and transmission bandwidth are measured. Performance improvements of 98% for MOS, 6.4times for end-to-end network delay, 32times for packet loss rate is shown as simulation results. On the other hand, transmission bandwidth is increased about maximum 10%. Finally, VoIP implementation guide for the performance with packet aggregation is suggested.

  • In this paper, we first introduce a mobile data traffic offload method called Local IP Access (LIPA) with femtocell networks. Then, we evaluate the traffic transmission time and probability of mobile data traffic that is transmitted to the core network (CN) when mobile devices transmit the mobile data traffic to indoor devices in three different scenarios, i.e., conventional systems, femtocell based systems, and femtocell and LIPA based systems. Through performance results, it is shown that the next generation mobile network with the femtocell and LIPA not only decrease the density of the mobile data traffic in CNs but also reduce the total transmission time of the mobile data traffic in indoor environments. That is, for the traffic transmission time, the conventional systems and femtocell based systems have 3 and 4 times higher than the femtocell and LIPA based systems, respectively, when the Internet delay is 10ms while 14 and 26 times higher than that, respectively, when the Internet delay is 100ms.

  • In wireless networks, efficient mobility management to support of mobile users is very important. Several mobility management schemeshave been proposed with the aim of reducing the signaling traffic of MN(Mobile Node). Among them, PMIPv6 (Proxy Mobile IPv6) is similar with host-based mobility management protocols but MN does not require any process for mobility. By introducing new mobile agent like MAG (Mobile Access Gateway) and LMA (Local Mobility Anchor), it provides IP mobility to MN. In this paper, we propose the analytical model to evaluate the mean signalingdelay and the mean bandwidth according to the type of MN mobility. As a result of mathematical analysis, MF-PMIP (Multicasting-based FastPMIP) outperforms compared to F-PMIP and PMIP in terms of parameters for the performance evaluation.

  • IPv6 is the internet protocol for next generation which can solve the problem of IPv4 protocol. Mobile IPv6 efficiently provides the mobility for mobile devices holding the properties of IPv6. iSCSI(Internet Small Computer System Interface) is a block-oriented storage access protocol that enables a user to recognize a remote storage as their own local block device through general TCP/IP networks. Since iSCSI uses a standard Ethernet switch and router for this kind of access, it can not only be applized to Ethernet technologies, but can also be used to create a storage networking system without any distance restrictions that can equally be applied to a wireless network environment. Accordingly, this paper presents an alternative approach to overcome the limited storage space of mobile devices based on the IPv6 iSCSI initiator driver which was originally designed for wired networks. Also, this paper describes about the implementation and performance analysis of mobile education service system using virtual storage devices in IPv6 wireless networks.

  • The IEEE 802.16 wireless metropolitan area network (WMAN) standard is designed to correct expensive communication costs in CDMA-based mobile communication systems and limited coverage problems in wireless LAN systems. Thus, the IEEE 802.16e standard can provide mobile high-speed packet access between mobile stations and the Internet service provider through the base station with cheap communication fees. To efficiently accommodate voice over IP (VoIP) services in IEEE 802.16 systems, an uplink quality of service packet-scheduling scheme is proposed, and its performance is evaluated with an NS-2 network simulator in this paper. Numerical results show that this proposed scheme can increase the system capacity by 100% more than in the unsolicited rand service (UGS) scheme and 30% more than the extended real-time polling service (ertPS) scheme, respectively.
