Study of Korean College Students' Perspectives on Virtual Reality Game Experience (가상현실 게임 경험에 대한 한국 대학생들의 관점연구)

  • In Korea there has been scant research on VR games. This work focuses then on college students' perceptions of VR games, factors motivating them to experience VR games, the important features of VR games. This study presents the results of in-depth interview with 10 college students who had recently experienced VR games. VR games, it is found, provide a high level of virtual reality, immersiveness, and controllability. Such attributes may be considered distinctive to mobile, PC, and video games. Gamers' intention to re-experience VR games is influenced by the following important factors: 4D effects in VR games, various VR game contents, freedom in games, unique experience chances, sense of reality, sense of thrill, action-based experiences, and playing in group (multiple player). Study findings also suggest that three important features in VR games known as immersion, engagement, and virtual presence play a pivotal role in influencing positive attitudes toward VR games. Practical implications are also discussed.the help of information technology.

Development of Puzzle-type Mobile Game Contents for Computer Education (컴퓨터 학습을 위한 퍼즐형 모바일 게임 콘텐츠 개발)

  • A large part of the wireless Internet contents which the young people access through their mobile phones is mobile games. However, mobile games currently available in the market are mostly simple entertainment packages, and there are hardly any educational game contents. This research divided the middle school computer education curriculum into five parts-common PC knowledge, operating systems, word processor, Internet, and multimedia-and designed and implemented a crossword puzzles mobile game. The mobile game designed in this research was given an emphasis to allow access of school lesson contents anywhere and anytime through actual mobile telecommunication networks, so that the students may experience less barrier to more fun and entertaining educational contents. The developed educational mobile game was applied on 2nd year middle school students. The mobile game had positive educational effects.

Factors Affecting User Satisfaction of Mobile Social Network Games: Focusing on the Quality and Self-determination (모바일 소셜 네트워크 게임 이용만족에 영향을 미치는 요인: 품질과 자기결정성 요인을 중심으로)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate and identify what factors influence the satisfaction of the users for the fast-growing social network game based on the mobile. To this end, we looked around the variable product characteristic factor, quality and the consumer characteristic factor, user self-determination. Also we surveyed 211 male and female college students. The first finding was that all the sub-factors of the quality factor had positive effects on the satisfaction of the mobile social network games. The second finding was that all the sub-factors of the self-determination factor had positive effects on the satisfaction of the mobile social network games. The third finding was that only the sub-factors of quality had positive relative effects on the satisfaction of the mobile social network games, in the order of playfulness, usability, functionality from the most to the least. The findings of this study are expected to offer meaningful and practical suggestions for the development of high quality game contents for the user convenience, as well as the academic significance, the expansion of game-related area of research through the break from the traditional research trends, technology and engineering point of view and from the PC-based online game.

Functional Analysis and Design of Touch User Interface in Mobile Game (모바일게임 터치사용자인터페이스(TUI)의 기능적 분석 및 설계)

  • Currently mobile phones possess the new features including the control interface provided with an ease, an intuition, and a variety and the display ensured for wide area. Mobile phones mounted with the touch screen release actively due to such strengths. This is the mega trend of the development of the latest mobile game. Mobile games set to the past keypad input system have changed for adaptation in the input environment and the progressive development. Consequently it is necessary to research for 'Touch User Interface(TUI)' of mobile games fixed into input environment by "Touch screen". This study have concreted the application method of touch game through the comparison analysis with the past game and implemented touch mobile game based on usability for ten touch mobile game titles released from the inside and outside of the country in oder to apply the touch interface fixed in the game to the hand-hold device with the function of touch interface. The result of this study have two implications. First it enhances the playability and diversity of game genre restricted by reason of the limitation of the past keypad input device. Second, it utilizes the basis for the standard of the interface of the touch mobile game by genre.

A Proposal for the Application of Multi-Platform Convergence for Intellectual Property-Based Games (지식재산권 기반 게임의 융복합 멀티 플랫폼 활용 방안 제안)

  • The global game market is growing evenly across a variety of platforms, but in the Korean game market is a decline in growth rates on PC and mobile platforms, which account for more than 80% of the total Korean game market, which requires an alternative. In this study, propose a multi-platform launch of IP-based games as a way to increase the growth rate of the Korean game market. It has been analyzed that multi-platform launch methods can be divided into Stand-alone Multi-platform method, Interlocking multi-platform method, and Upgrade-interlinking Multi-platform method, respectively, and the effect of expanding, providing more satisfactory game play environment and preventing them from escaping to competitive games. Given the limited case analysis in this study, further studies are needed to propose more effective multi-platform utilization measures.

  • Most games based on PCs or consoles at present show vivid special effects and brilliance sceneries. However, the other games running on mobiles and portable devices can not show magnificent scenes because of low hardware specifications such as slow CPU, old graphics card and battery capacity. These games relatively prefer light and casual contents that do not need tremendous calculation. It is very important to keep minimum of game graphics quality in those games. Thus this research presents the new possibility of variable indexed color palettes to overcome the low hardware capacities.

  • 조작해야 할 정보와 사물이 가장 많은 게임 장르인 RPG 장르에서 모바일 환경의 제약은 자연스럽게 사용자 인터페이스 패턴의 제약으로 연결된다. 다만 기기 환경도 스마트폰 디스플레이 화면이 예전보다 커지고 자동 전투 기능의 활용으로 조작의 대상과 적시성을 감소시키면서 최근에는 그 제약이 개선되었다는 평가가 있다. 이 논문에서 우리는 지난 3년간 연도별로 가장 많이 플레이 된 모바일 RPG 게임 5개씩을 골라 주요 구성 요소의 전투 창에서의 배치 패턴을 분석하고 그러한 패턴이 실제로 사용자들에게 어떻게 인식되고 있는지 조작 편의성을 중심으로 만족도 평가를 실시하였다. 4점 척도로 적극적 평가를 요구한 9개의 설문에서 이 장르 사용자들은 대체로 70% 이상의 만족도를 보이고 있었으며 일부 설문에서만 게임 간 차이가 발견되었다.

  • In this paper, we design and implement a mobile game based on windows phone platform. Visual Studio and the Windows Mobile software development kit(SDK) and developer tool kits (DTK) make it possible to create software for the Windows Mobile platform in Visual C#. Also The XNA Framework is the set of .NET libraries that developers will code against to build games. XNA Framework support PC and XBOX and a ZUNE HD multiplex platform environment and 2D and 3D games provides the necessary functions to a development. XNA Framework is to make it easier to develop games because the codes which are succeeded creates with automatic, implements a game development relation resource and the game logic. The key idea of our game is that we use shooting and ranking system to raise fun.

  • In this paper, we propose a win-win network operating platform for mobile games. The characteristics of the service structure suggested is to form a marketing network that can influence the mobile game market by linking with the mobile game industry, and the excellent game content of the game developer in the industrial complex may not disappear. We also would like to propose a network operating platform that would help it enter the market area steadily. The proposed platform technology is used to distribute rapidly through a win-win network between game companies and publishers. When new games are commercialized, they can support continuous target marketing through various data indicators and analytics by the developed platform. In particular, G-Cross marketing strategy is considered to be a low-cost, high-efficiency marketing method in that it can provide users with information about new games by utilizing the given game infrastructure and utilize the user group possessed by each game company.

One-man Mobile Casual Game Production Using Unity 3D (Unity 3D를 활용한 1인 모바일 캐주얼 게임 제작)

  • Due to smart phones introduced since 2007, mobile contents production become activated and with this trend, attention among different age groups to production of mobile games has been growing. Whereas in the past, development of games was the domain of developers equipped with technical knowledge, provision of editor-type engines in recent times is lowering the high barrier of entry to game production. This paper proposes an event-based module design method from the perspective of general users, aimed at producing games by oneself with a Unity 3D, one of editor-type game engines. This is to plan behaviors and roles in the unit of modules in the whole process of a game to be in line with the perspective of game production by one person. Each module includes diverse events that express game characteristics. In addition, the script function provided by the Unity 3D is appropriate to embody the proposed module structure and utilizes the Unity 3D. Lastly, this study produce a simple 3D mobile casual game in order to verify whether effective game production from the planning to the development is possible through the proposed method.
