  • Ultra Wideband(UWB) technologies have been developed to exploit a new spectrum resource in substances and to realize ultra-high-speed communication, high precision geolocation, and other applications. The energy of UWB signal is extremely spread from near DC to a few GHz. This means that the interference between conventional narrowband systems and UWB systems is inevitable. However, the interference effects had not previously been studied from UWB wireless systems to conventional mobile wireless systems sharing the frequency bands such as Korean Cellular CDMA and WCDMA. This paper experimentally evaluates the interference from two kinds of UWB sources, namely a direct-sequence spread-spectrum CDMA(DS-CDMA) UWB source and an impulse radio UWB source, to a Cellular CDMA and WCDMA digital transmission system. The average frame error rate degradation of each system are presented. From these experimental results, the interference effects of DS-CDMA UWB source is not severe compared to the Impulse UWB.

  • The latest mobile applications such as augmented reality, virtual reality, and deep learning can be used efficiently in various fields such as emergency management and game. Accordingly the corresponding applications have been developed for these purposes. However modern mobile applications such as augmented reality and virtual reality increase the energy burden on mobile devices. In order for mobile devices to focus their energy on the latest mobile applications, energy consumption should be minimized for communication and networking, such as cognitive radio. In this paper, we propose a method to reduce the energy consumption of Centralized Cooperative Spectrum Sensing (CCSS) scheme in cognitive radio by devising Stop Reporting Algorithm (SRA). Simulation results show that SRA can reduce energy consumption of mobile devices using cognitive radio.

  • In this paper, we propose a downlink power control scheme to apply in the unequal error protection multi-code CDMA mobile medicine system. The mobile medicine system contains (i) blood pressure and body temperature measurement value, (ii) ECG medical signals measured by the electrocardiogram device, (iii) mobile patient's history, (iv) G.729 audio signal, MPEG-4 CCD sensor video signal, and JPEG2000 medical image. By the help of the multi-code CDMA spread spectrum communication system with downlink power control scheme and unequal error protection strategy, it is possible to transmit mobile medicine media and meet the quality of service. Numerical analysis and simulation results show that the system is a well transmission platform in mobile medicine.

  • Recently, the sixth generation (6G) networks have become tremendous research topics. Intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) technologies have been envisioned, to increase spectrum and energy efficiency for the fifth generation (5G) mobile networks, towards the sixth generation (6G) communications. In this paper, especially for the strongest channel gain user, we investigate the bit-error rate (BER) of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) systems with intelligent reflecting surface (IRS). First, we derive a BER expression in a closed-form of Q functions. Second, we investigate the BER performance improvement of IRS NOMA systems over NOMA systems versus the power allocation. Moreover, we analyze the BER performance improvement of IRS NOMA systems over NOMA systems versus the number of IRS devices. In results, NOMA equipped with IRS technologies could play an important role in the paradigm shift from 5G mobile networks to 6G mobile networks.

  • This paper proposes a new convolutional neural network (CNN) based spectrum sensing technique for cognitive radio communications. The proposed technique determines the existence of the primary user (PU) by using energy detection without any prior knowledge of the PU's signal. In the proposed method, the received signal is high-rate sampled to sense the entire spectrum bands of interest. After that, fast Fourier transform (FFT) of the signal converts the time domain signal to frequency domain spectrum and by stacking those consecutive spectrums, a 2 dimensional signal is made. The 2 dimensional signal is cut by the sensing channel bandwidth and inputted to the CNN. The CNN determines the existence of the primary user. Since there are only two states (existence or non-existence), binary classification CNN is used. The performance of the proposed method is examined through computer simulation and indoor experiment. According to the results, the proposed method outperforms the conventional threshold-based method by over 2 dB.

  • A mobile propagation characteristics for wideband DS-SS (Direct Sequence-Spectrum) signal is presented. Existing narrowband model is extended for the wideband pulse with an arbitrary shape. The received DS-SS signal in the frequency domain is the transfer function of the propagation channel weighted by the inverse Fourier transform. In this proposed method, received signal spectral density, instantaneous waveform, and Doppler spectrum of DS-SS signal via either Rayleigh of Rician channel can be obtained easily. Simulation results match well with both simulated theoretical fading statistics and classical theory. As expected, the extraction of chip timing in Rician fading shown to be more tractable than Rayleigh fading.

  • The paper presents five strategic opinions for promoting the fourth industry revolution through the supply of 5G additional frequency. The assessments are on the basis of 5G frequency utilization technologies and services, with reference to 3GPP 5G New Radio standards, after investigating the domestic 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G mobile communication services as well as the use of mobile radio frequency and spectrum. The presented opinions contain the frequency supply of contiguous-wide bandwidth channels, harmonized frequency supply between licensed and unlicensed spectrum, the existing 4G frequency recycle for increasing 5G coverage and capacity, balance frequency supply in the multi-band for 5G services, and the development of 5G vertical frequency for industry. The aim is that the presented five strategic opinions can offer guidance for the upcoming plan of domestic 5G additional frequency supply.

  • With the appearance of wireless spectrum crisis in traditional cellular network, device-to-device (D2D) communication has been regarded as a promising solution to ease heavy traffic burden by enabling precise content delivery among mobile users. However, due to the channel sharing, the interference between D2D and cellular users can affect the transmission rate and narrow the throughput in the network. In this paper, we firstly present a weighted interference minimization cluster formation model involving both social attribute and physical closeness. The weighted-interference, which is evaluated under the susceptible-infected(SI) model, is utilized to gather user in social and physical proximity. Then, we address the cluster formation problem via spectrum clustering with iterative operation. Finally, we propose the stable matching theory algorithm in order to maximize rate oriented to accomplish the one-to-one resource allocation. Numerical results show that our proposed scheme acquires quite well clustering effect and increases the accumulative transmission rate compared with the other two advanced schemes.

  • Since scarcity of spectrum in future mobile networks, millimeter wave frequencies from 30 GHz to 300 GHz have been proposed to be used in an important part of 5G mobile communication backhaul links to provide several giga bits services. In ITU-R has been invited to conduct and complete in time for WRC-19 the appropriate studies to determine the spectrum needs for the terrestrial component of IMT in the frequency range between 24.25 GHz and 86 GHz. Also, small cells such as a femtocell, and heterogeneous networks have been deployed through world in order to enhance the communication capacity. At this stage, it is important to develop millimeter wave frequencies to provide 5G mobile broadband services, and thus this paper proposes the effective usage of these frequencies by summarizing the FCC allocation of millimeter waves, their propagation characteristics, the required minimum path length, and the interference effect.
