Direct reduction and carburization process was thought one of the best methods to make nano-sized WC powder. The oxide powders were mixed with graphite powder by ball milling in the compositions of WC-5,-10wt%Co. The mixture was heated at the temperatures of $600{\sim}800^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours in Ar. The reaction time of the reduction and carburization was decreased as heating temperatures and cobalt content increased. The mean size of WC/Co composite powders was about 260 nm after the reactions. And the mean size of WC grains in WC/Co composite powders was about 38 nm after the reaction at $800^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours.
We have modeled the observed spectral energy distributions(SEDs) of young stellar objects (YSOs) in giant molecular clouds (GMCs). We propose the theoretical modles for the dust envelopes around YSOs. The YSOs in a GMC may share the same initial chemical composition. In this paper, we compare the model SEDs with the observations of the YSOs. Dust shells of the YSOs are composed of a mixture of astronomical silicate and graphite grains. We propose the models for the evolution of the GMCs comparing the shape of the SEDs on the IRAS 2-color diagram with the age.

The microstructure and mechanical properties of $Si_3N_4/BN $nanocomposites synthesized by chemical processing were investigated. The nanocomposites containing 15 vol% hexagonal BN (h-BN) were fabricated by hot-pressing $\alpha-Si_3N_4$powders covered with turbostratic BN (t-BN). The t-BN coating on $\alpha-Si_3N_4$particles was prepared by heating $\alpha-Si_3N_4$ particles covered with a mixture of boric acid and urea in hydrogen gas. TEM observations of this nanocomposite revealed that nano-sized h-BN particles were homogeneously dispersed within $Si_3N_4$grains as well as at grain boundaries. The strength and thermal shock resistance were significantly improved in comparison with the $Si_3N_4/BN$ microcomposites.
Carbon fiber was reacted with gaseous silicon monoxide which is produced from pack-powder mixture at elevated temperature. As a result of the reaction, two kinds of SiC fiber were obtained. The first one was SiC fibers which were converted from carbon fiber. The fiber is constituted with polycrystal like fine grains or monolithic crystals that have a size from sub-micron to $10\;{\mu}m$. Their size depends on the temperature during the conversion reaction. The second one was ultra-fine SiC fibers that were found on the surface of the converted SiC fibers. The ultra-fine fibers have diameters from 0.08 to $0.2\;{\mu}m$ and their aspect ratio were larger than 100. The chemical composit ion of the ultra-fine fibers was analyzed using an Auger electron spectroscopy. In result, the fibers consist of 51% silicon, 38% carbon and 11% oxygen by weight.
The (B.Si)C composite was prepared form the mixture of metal boron, silicon, and carbon powders in Ar atmosphere by Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis Chemical Furnace. The characterization of synthesized power and sintered body were investigated. The microstructure of sintered body suggested that SiC boundary was made between B4C grains. The most excellent mechanical properties, the relative density of 95% oftheoretical value, 3 point flexural strength of 360MPa, and fracture toughness of 3.6MN/m3/2 could be obtained in 80wt% B4C-20 wt% SiC composite were obtained.
Nanostructured(NS) W-Cu composite powders of about 20~30 nm grain size were synthesized by mechanical alloying. The properties of NS W-Cu powder and its sintering behavior were investigated. It was shown from X-ray diffraction and TEM analysis that the supersaturated solid solution of Cu in W was not formed by the mechanical alloying of mixed elemental powders, but the mixture of W and Cu particles with nanosize grains, i.e., the nanocomposite powder was attained. Nanocomposite W-20wt%Cu and W-30wt%Cu powders milled for 100 h were sintered to the relative density more than 96% and 98%, respectively, by sintering at 110$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in $H_2$. Such a high sinterability was attributed to the high homogeneous mixing and ultra-fine structure of W and Cu phases as well as activated sintering effect by impurity metal introduced during milling.
The vacuum-annealed Ni80Fe20/Ag discontinuous multilayers were found to show giant magnetoresistive behaviors comparable to those of corresponding multilayers annealed at atmospheric pressure in a mixture of H2 and Ar. This vacuum-annealing process will offer potential advantages, enabling a continuous batch process from the deposition to the annealing. Their giant magnetoresistive behaviors were attributed to the magnetostatic coupling that are induced at the edges of the discontinuous magnetic grains. We also present our results about the multilayer patterned into a basic device for the magnetic field sensor.

Nanostructured Alumina - 20 vol% 3YSZ composites powder were synthesized by wet-milling technique. The starting materials were a mixture of Alumina micro-powder and 3YSZ nano-powders. Nano-crystalline grains were obtained after 24 h milling time. The nano-structured powder compacts were then processed to full density at different temperatures by high-frequency induction heat sintering (HFIHS). Effects of temperature on the mechanical and microstructure properties have been studied. $Al_2O_3-3YSZ$ composites with higher mechanical properties and small grain size were successfully developed at relatively low temperatures through this technique.

These experiment was conducted to determine the effect of nitrogen fertilizer levels and mixture small grains on productivity and quality of spring forage rape at south region of Korea(Mokpo). The experiment was arranged in a split plot design with three replications. The main plots consisted of three different levels of nitrogen fertilizer(100, 150 and 200 kg/ha). The sub plots consisted of five kinds of mixed small grain species(Rye, Oat, Barley, Italian ryegrass, and Rape monoculture). The results obtained are summarized as follow. Dry matter(DM) content of Rye + Rape and Ba.ley + Rape mixtures were increased by $2\~3\%$ compared to Rape monoculture. The high level of nitrogen application increased the fresh matter yield, and yield of Rye + Rape and Rape monoculture were higher than that of others. Dry matter yield of Rye + Rape mixture and Rape monoculture with 200kg/ha of nitrogen application were higher by 9,449 and 9,227 kg/ha, respectively. The crude protein(CP) content of rape was high as $18.6\%$ while average CP content was $16\%$. The average total digestible nutrient(TDN) content showed high as $70\%$. It is suggested the Rye + Rape mixture or Rape monoculture would recommendable for spring usage of rape at south region of Korea.
Entomopathogenic fungi are promising pest-control agents but their industrial applicability is limited by their thermosusceptibility. With an aim to increase the thermotolerance of Isaria fumosorosea SFP-198, moisture absorbents were added to dried conidial powder, and the relationship between its water potential and thermotolerance was investigated. Mycotized rice grains were dried at $10^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$, $30^{\circ}C$, and $40^{\circ}C$ and the drying effect of each temperature for 24, 48, 96, and 140 hr was determined. Drying for 48 hr at $10^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$ reduced the moisture content to < 5% without any significant loss of conidial thermotolerance, but drying at $30^{\circ}C$ and $40^{\circ}C$ reduced both moisture content and conidial thermotolerance. To maintain thermotolerance during storage, moisture absorbents, such as calcium chloride, silica gel, magnesium sulfate, white carbon, and sodium sulfate were individually added to previously dried-conidial powder at 10% (w/w). These mixtures was then stored at room temperature for 30 days and subjected to $50^{\circ}C$ for 2 hr. The white carbon mixture had the highest conidial thermotolerance, followed by silica gel, magnesium sulfate, and then the other absorbents. A significant correlation between the water potential and conidial thermotolerance was observed in all conidia-absorbent mixtures tested in this study (r = -0.945). Conidial thermotolerance in wet conditions was evaluated by adding moisturized white carbon (0~20% $H_2O$) to conidia to mimic wet conditions. Notably, the conidia still maintained their thermotolerance under these conditions. Thus, it is evident that conidial thermotolerance can be maintained by drying mycotized rice grains at low temperatures and adding a moisture absorbent, such as white carbon.
