  • In this paper, we propose the design on LNA and Down-mixer for MB-OFDM UWB using $0.18\;{\mu}m$ CMOS. LNA, Down-mixer design result shows that it covers the frequency range ken 3 GHz to 5 GHz. The LNA gain is larger than 12.8 dB, and noise figure about 2.6 dB. Double balanced differential down-mixer is designed less than 2 dB gainflatness, and it has over 30 dB LO leakage, feedthrough characteristics.

  • A monolithic 5 GHz image reject mixer using a 0.5-m GaAs MESFET technology is designed and simulated. The Mixer exhibits a 13.56 dB down-conversion gain, a SSB (Single SideBand) noise figure of 11.91 dB, an input IP3 (third order intercept point) of -3.73 dBm and a PldB (1-dB compression point) of -11.0 dBm. The critical issue in the image reject mixer is the phase accuracy and magnitude balance of the 90 phase shifting network. The proposed image reject mixer realizes a 90 phase shifter on chip. This phase shifting network does not need any phase adjusting to achieve the phase error specification of 3 over a frequency range from 800 MHz to 1GHz. The simulated overall image rejection ratio is better than 50 dB.

  • We have developed superconducting mixer receivers for 129 GHz VLBI observation in Korean VLBI Network (KVN). The developed mixer has a radial waveguide probe with simple transmission line L-C transformer as a tuning circuit to its 5 series-connected junctions, which can have 125 - 165 GHz as the operation radio frequency (RF). For intermediate frequency (IF) signal path a high impedance quarter-wavelength line connects the probe to one end of symmetric RF chokes. The double side band (DSB) receiver noise of the mixer was about 40 K over 4 - 6 GHz IF band, whereas we achieved the uncorrected single side band (SSB) noise temperature of about 70 K and better than 10 dB image rejection ratio in 2SB configuration with 8 - 10 GHz IF band. Insert-type receiver cartridges employing the mixers have been under commission for KVN stations.

  • In this thesis, the matching network at the local oscillator port of the sub-harmonic mixer is optimized for reducing the conversion loss. A downconverter for point to point system applications is designed and fabricated using the such sub-harmonic mixer. The sub-harmonic mixer achieved the conversion loss of 11.8 dB at the 12 dBm input power of the local oscillator and the isolation of less than -40 dB. The downconverter achieved the IF output power flatness of 2 dB and the total noise figure of 5.9 dB.

  • In this paper, a centralized protocol model for videoconference service over a wide-area-network is presented. the model is comprised of three distinct components : clients, server and mixer. The server handles all can management functions, and the mixer performs realtime traffic mixing. The control and data are separated, flowing over separated connections in the model. A set of new protocols are defined : call management protocol, media transport protocol, and multimedia synchronization protocol. This paper also presents the functional design of the mixer.

  • A multistandard direct-conversion mixer for WCDMA, Wibro, and 802.11a/b/g is designed in 0.18 um CMOS technology To support multistandard and to reduce the chip area the switched inductor is used as the matching method. This switched inductor matching network selects the mixer's operation frequency band by turning on or off the switch transistor. Since the performances of mixer and operation frequency can be affected by the parasitic of switch transistor the mixer should be designed with the optimized size of switch to minimize parasitic effects. Proposed mixer is able to achieve return loss less than -13 dB in $2.1\sim2.5GHz$ and $5.1\sim5.9GHz$ bands with the suitable performance to meet requirements of WCDMA, WiBro, and 802.11a/b/g.

  • In this paper, we describe a single-gate MESFET mixer at PCS(Personal Communication Service) frequency band. The PCS frequency band is 1965~2025 MHz in FR and 140 MHz in IF irrespectly. The design of the mixer was executed by microwave simulator, EEsof Libra. The matching network is consisted of rectangular inductor, MIM capacitor and open stub. The ma- nufacture work was accomplished by the micro-pen and wedge-bonder. The mixer showed $6.69\pm0.65$ dB of conversion gain, $-14.9\pm3.5$dB of RF reflection coefficient and 57.83 dB of LO/IF isolation at 10 dBm of LO power when LO frequency is 1855 MHz. When this mixer is used at PCS terminal, IF-amplifier which compensates the conversion loss of diode mixer may be omitted.

  • This paper proposes a low power radio frequency receiver front-end where, in a single stage, single-balanced mixer and voltage-controlled oscillator are stacked on top of low noise amplifier and re-use the dc current to reduce the power consumption. In the proposed topology, the voltage-controlled oscillator itself plays the dual role of oscillator and mixer by exploiting a series inductor-capacitor network. Using a 65 nm complementary metal oxide semiconductor technology, the proposed radio frequency front-end is designed and simulated. Oscillating at around 2.4 GHz frequency band, the voltage-controlled oscillator of the proposed radio frequency front-end achieves the phase noise of -72 dBc/Hz, -93 dBc/Hz, and -113 dBc/Hz at 10KHz, 100KHz, and 1 MHz offset frequency, respectively. The simulated voltage conversion gain is about 25 dB. The double-side band noise figure is -14.2 dB, -8.8 dB, and -7.3 dB at 100 KHz, 1 MHz and 10 MHz offset. The radio frequency front-end consumes only 96 ㎼ dc power from a 1-V supply.
