Development of Two-dimensional Finite Volume Model Applicable to Mixed Meshes (혼합격자의 적용이 가능한 2차원 유한체적모형의 개발)

  • In this study, 2D finite volume model, which can apply to the mixed meshes that is effective to treat the complicated topography such as a natural river, is developed. To do so, an algorithm for finding the neighbouring cell of a computational cell is introduced, and fluxes are computed using the HLLC approximate Riemann solver at each interface between a computational cell and it's neighbouring cells. Moreover, in order to numerically treat the bed slope which has important effect on the balance between flux gradients and sourte terms, different formula to compute the bed slope for rectangular and triangular mesh are applied. The developed model is applied to analyze dam-break in an experimental channel with $90^{\circ}$ bend and Malpasset dam-break in France. The two cases consist of mixed meshes and the suggested method is validated for the experimental channel and natural channel by comparison with the experimental data, field data and computed results.

Effect of n-Butanol on the Micellization of DBS/Brij 35 Mixed Surfactant Systems (DBS/Brij 35 혼합계면활성제의 미셀화에 미치는 n-부탄올 효과)

  • The critical micelle concentration (CMC) and the counterion binding constant (B) in a mixed micellar state of the sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (DBS) with the polyoxyethylene(23) lauryl ether (Brij 35) at 25oC in water and aqueous solutions of n-butanol (0.1M, 0.2M, and 0.3M) were determined as a function of a1 (the overall mole fraction of DBS) by the use of electric conductivity method and surface tensiometer method. Various thermodynamic parameters (Xi, i, Ci, aiM, , and Hmix) were calculated by means of the equations derived from the nonideal mixed micellar model. The effect of n-butanol on the micellization of the DBS/Brij 35 mixtures has been also studied by analyzing the measured and calculated thermodynamic parameters.

Effect of Enzyme Treatment on Silage Quality : Meta-analysis

  • The present study investigated the effect of enzyme inclusion on silage quality using meta-analysis tool. A total of 16 research papers reporting the effect of enzyme application on silage quality were employed in the meta-analysis of this study. Mixed model for integrating quantitative results from multiple studies was used first to calculate the predicted error of each study. Individual error from the estimated model was the applied into standard deviation of each study to calculate the mean difference. Finally, summary effect was determined using standard mean difference (SMD) and inversed variance weighting. Mixed model analysis and SMD analysis showed the same effect patterns in all analysis items. Enzyme inclusion in silage significantly (p < 0.05) altered all silage quality characteristics investigated compared to control when enzyme was not included. Our results showed that enzyme treatment increased dry matter content, preserved crude protein effectively, and elevated water soluble carbohydrate content. However, the pH value, acetic acid, propionic acid, neutral detergent fiber, and acid detergent fiber contents in silage with enzyme inclusion were lower than those of the control.

  • Longitudinal data are measured repeatedly over time from the same subject. Therefore, the repeated outcomes have correlations, and it is necessary to estimate the covariate effect on the response variable while explaining the correlations. In longitudinal ordinal data analysis, the covariate effect is estimated using generalized linear mixed models using a logit link function or a probit link function. In this paper, we review the generalized linear mixed models and marginalized models with the two types of link functions for longitudinal ordinal data analysis. Specifically, a Bayesian cumulative probit linear mixed model with the probit link function is used to analyze Korean workplace panel survey (WPS) data, which is longitudinal ordinal data. In the model, the correlation matrix is high-dimensional and positive definite, and it is estimated using the hypersphere decomposition. In the WPS data, corporate training participation rate is considered as a response variable. Assuming different correlation structures, several models are compared. For the most suitable model, some explanatory variables, the annual effect, profit sharing schemes status, average annual training hours per person, and labor union status, have effects on corporate training participation rate.

A longitudinal data analysis for child academic achievement with Korea welfare panel study data (경시적 자료를 이용한 아동 학업성취도 분석)

  • Longitudinal data of Korean child academic achievement have been used to find the significant exploratory variables under the assumption of independent repeated measured data. Using the exploratory variables in previous research works, we analyze the linear mixed model incorporating the fixed and random effects for child academic achievement to detect the significant exploratory variables. Korea welfare panel study data observed three times between 2006 and 2012 by additional survey for children. The child academic achievement is evaluated by the sum of academic achievements of Korean, English and Mathematics. We also investigate the multicollinearity and the missing mechanism and select some popular correlation matrices to analyze the linear mixed model.

Body Measurement Changes and Prediction Models for Flight Pilots in Dynamic Postures (자세에 따른 부위별 체표길이 변화량 분석 및 예측모형 개발 -공군 전투조종사를 대상으로-)

  • Wearing ease is a critical factor when designing special uniforms such as flight pilot's garment and should reflect occupational properties for better performance. This study measured skin surface on 31 areas in seven postures that refer to the pilot's occupational postures as well as made six prediction models including linear mixed model (LMM) for each body part to find the best fit model. Skin surface measured from 3D body scanned images of 11 male pilot participants. There were significantly positive and negative changes in various areas from standing posture (P1) to dynamic postures (P2-P7). Six models were designed in various compositions using stature and chest circumference as fixed effects and subject and posture as random effects. The best models were linear mixed models with one fixed effect (chest circumference or stature, varies with body parts) and two random effects (subject and posture). The results of this study provide reference data to set wearing ease for pilot's garment and suggests a new methodology in this research area, but verifying the effect of diverse independent variables is left for future studies.

The Development of Biomass Model for Pinus densiflora in Chungnam Region Using Random Effect (임의효과를 이용한 충남지역 소나무림의 바이오매스 모형 개발)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop age-biomass model in Chungnam region containing random effect. To develop the biomass model by species and tree component, data for Pinus densiflora in central region is collected to 30 plots (150 trees). The mixed model were used to fixed effect in the age-biomass relation for Pinus densiflora, with random effect representing correlation of survey area were obtained. To verify the evaluation of the model for random effect, the akaike information criterion (abbreviated as, AIC) was used to calculate the variance-covariance matrix, and residual of repeated data. The estimated variance-covariance matrix, and residual were -1.0022, 0.6240, respectively. The model with random effect (AIC=377.2) has low AIC value, comparison with other study relating to random effects. It is for this reason that random effect associated with categorical data were used in the data fitting process, the model can be calibrated to fit the Chungnam region by obtaining measurements. Therefore, the results of this study could be useful method for developing biomass model using random effects by region.

Application of Scale Effect in Estimating Bearing Capacity and Settlement of Footing from Plate-Load Test (평판재하시험으로부터 실제기초의 지지력 및 침하량 산정시 Scale Effect)

  • The scale effect should be considered to determine the bearing capacity and settlement of footings from Plate-Load Test, because of the size difference between a footing and a loading plate. To analyze characteristics of bearing capacity and settlement according to the difference of loading plate sizes, model tests were peformed with four different sizes of square plate, which is B=10, 15, 20 and 25cm respectively, on five different kinds of subsoil, which is pure sand(100:0), sand-clay mixed soil(75:25, 50:50, 25:75), and pure clay(0:100). Based on the analyzed results, this paper also proposed a method of bearing capacity and settlement determination, where scale effect is considered depending on the mixing ratio of sand and clay. Applying the formular proposed in this research to field problems, it is expected that evaluation of bearing capacity and settlement of footings can be more reliable and more economic construction can be achieved.

Kinetic Study of pH Effects on Biological Hydrogen Production by a Mixed Culture

  • The effect of pH on anaerobic hydrogen production was investigated under various pH conditions ranging from pH 3 to 10. When the modified Gompertz equation was applied to the statistical analysis of the experimental data, the hydrogen production potential and specific hydrogen production rate at pH 5 were 1,182 ml and 112.5 ml/g biomass-h, respectively. In this experiment, the maximum theoretical hydrogen conversion ratio was 22.56%. The Haldane equation model was used to find the optimum pH for hydrogen production and the maximum specific hydrogen production rate. The optimum pH predicted by this model is 5.5 and the maximum specific hydrogen production rate is 119.6 ml/g VSS-h. These data fit well with the experimented data($r^2=0.98$).
