  • In order to design Non-point source management, the aspect of statistical features of the entire precipitation data should be focused since non-point source discharge is driven by continuous rainfall runoffs. 3-parameter mixed exponential probability density function is used to establish urban stormwater capture curve instead of previous single-parameter exponential PDF. Then, recent 10-year data in Busan are applied to establish the curve. The result shows that 3-parameter mixed PDF gives better resolution.

  • The aim of this study is to classify mixed information in a pixel of a remote sensing image data (in the case of SPOT HRV's band $1{\sim}3,\;20m{\times}20m$). First, the loss of information and the uncertainty of mixed pixel are examined. To solve the problems, methods by fuzzy sigmoid function and back-propagation neural network are suggested. Then. the study simulates and comparatively analyzes the two methods.

  • We propose a simple prescription for resolving the general-$N$ problem existing in the old-fashioned mixed-radix fast Fourier transformation FORTRAN subroutine by Singleton in 1968. After a brief investigation on the problem, we discuss our prescription with the worst case analysis within the dynamical allocation. The analysis reveals that our implementation is superior, at least for multi-variate data set, than previously proposed data copying methods.

  • Low spatial resolution remote sensing (RS) data (LSRD) are promising in agricultural monitoring activities due to their high temporal resolution, but under such a spatial resolution, mixing in a pixel is a common problem. In this study, a numerical experiment was conducted to explore a mixed pixel problem in agriculture using a combined RSsimulation model SWAP (Soil-Water-Atmosphere -Plant) and a Genetic Algorithm (GA) approach. Results of the experiments showed that it is highly possible to address the mixed pixel problem with LSRD.

  • This paper suggests a mixed-effects model for analyzing split-plot data when there is a repeated measures factor that affects on the response variable. Covariance structures are discussed among the observations because of the assumption of a repeated measures factor as one of explanatory variables. As a plausible covariance structure, compound symmetric covariance structure is assumed for analyzing data. The restricted maximum likelihood (REML)method is used for estimating fixed effects in the model.

  • For statistical microarray data analysis, clustering analysis is a useful exploratory technique and offers the promise of simultaneously studying the variation of many genes. However, most of the proposed clustering methods are not rigorously solved for a time-course microarray data cluster and for a fitting time covariate; therefore, a statistical method is needed to form a cluster and represent a linear trend of each cluster for each gene. In this research, we developed a modified hierarchical mixture of an experts model to suggest clustering data and characterize each cluster using a linear mixed effect model. The feasibility of the proposed method is illustrated by an application to the human fibroblast data suggested by Iyer et al. (1999).

  • Unit level logistic regression model with mixed effects has been used for estimating small area proportions, which treats the spatial effects as random effects and assumes linearity between the logistic link and the covariates. However, when the functional form of the relationship between the logistic link and the covariates is not linear, it may lead to biased estimators of the small area proportions. In this paper, we relax the linearity assumption and propose two types of kernel-based logistic regression models for estimating small area proportions. We also demonstrate the efficiency of our propose models using simulated data and real data.

  • The seawater lift pump system is responsible for maintaining the open canal level to provide the suction flow of circulating water pump at the set point. The objective of this paper is to design a 2-stage mixed flow pump (for seawater lifting) by inverse design method and to evaluate the overall performance and the local flow fields of the pump by using a commercial CFD code. Rotating speed of the impeller is 1,750 rpm with the flow rate of 2,700 $m^3$/h. Finite volume method with structured mesh and realized k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulent model is used to guaranty more accurate prediction of turbulent flow in the pump impeller. The numerical results such as static head, brake horse power and efficiency of the mixed flow pump are compared with the design data. The simulated results are good agreement with the design data less 3% error.

  • The Pearson chi-square goodness-of-fit test and the likelihood ratio tests are usually used for testing independence in two-way contingency tables under random sampling. But both of these tests may provide false results for the contingency table with clustered observations. In this case we consider the generalized linear mixed model which includes random effects of clustering in addition to the fixed effects of covariates. Both the heterogeneity between clusters and the dependency within a cluster can be explained via generalized linear mixed model. In this paper we introduce several types of generalized linear mixed model for testing independence in contingency tables with clustered observations. We also discuss the fitting of these models through a real dataset.

  • The purpose of this study was to understand experiences of successful aging of community-dwelling elderly living in the Korean community using mixed methods. This study is a mixed methods research using convergent parallel design. 483 elderly people living in the 2 cities were selected as subjects to collect quantitative data. For qualitative data collection, 6 elderly people participated. The level of successful aging for elderly people living at home scored an average of 4.30 ± .59 out of 5 points (4.46 ± .64 for self-efficacy, 4.31 ± .65 for good self-control, 4.29 ± .70 for satisfaction with children's success, and 4.26 ± .61 for partnership with spouses). The main themes of successful aging derived by interview were as follows: 1) fulfill responsibilities of raising children as parents, 2) establish a stable life to overcome difficulties, 3) accept the body being different from the past, and 4) live in harmony with people around them. Based on these results, it is necessary to provide useful health care services that can be used in the local community and to provide service utilization information through various routes in order to achieve a successful aging.
