This study Provides the treatment methods of liquid wastes from the dissolution/purification process of nuclear fuel raw material and the fabrication process of nuclear fuel powder. One of the treatment methods is to process liquid waste from uranium raw material dissolution/purification process. This waste, of the strong acid, can be reused to dissolve the fine ADU particles in filtrate which is ADU waste of pH 8.0 converted from AUC waste after recovery of uranium. To dissolve the fine ADU particles, ADU filtrate was pretreated to pH 4.0 with the dissolution/purification waste, and then mixed with the lime to pH 9.2 and aged for 30 minutes. From this processing, uranium content of the filtrate was decreased to below 3ppm. The waste from fuel powder fabrication is emulsified solution dispersed with fine oil droplets. This emulsion was destroyed effectively by adding and mixing the nitric acid with rapid heating at the same time. After this processing, $Na_2U_2O_7$ compound is produced by addition of NaOH. Optimum condition of this processing was shown at pH 11.5, and uranium content of the filtrate was analyzed to 5ppm. To remove the trace of uranium in the filtrate, lime should be added. Otherwise, 4N nitric acid was used to destroy the emulsion directly, and then lime was added to this waste. Uranium content of the treated filtrate was below 1 ppm. In addition to these wastes, the trace of uranium in filtrate after recovery of uranium from the AUC waste which is produced during PWR power preparation, is treated with NaOH to takeup fluorine(F) in the waste because fluorine is valuable and toxic material. In the finally treated waste, uranium was not detected.
Low-quality soil for land reuse is a crucial problem in vegetation quality and especially to waste disposal sites in mining areas. It is necessary to find suitable materials to improve the soil quality and especially to increase soil microbial diversity and activity. In this study, pot experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of a mixed material of humic acid, super absorbent polymer and biochar on low-quality soil indexes and the microbial community response. The indexes included soil physicochemical properties and the corresponding plant growth. The results showed that the mixed material could improve chemical properties and physical structure of soil by increasing the bulk density, porosity, macro aggregate, and promote the mineralization of nutrient elements in soil. The best performance was achieved by adding 3 g·kg-1 super absorbent polymer, 3 g·kg-1 humic acid, and 10 g·kg-1 biochar to soil with plant total nitrogen, dry weight and height increased by 85.18%, 266.41% and 74.06%, respectively. Physicochemical properties caused changes in soil microbial diversity. Acidobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Chloroflexi, Cyanobacteria, Firmicutes, Nitrospirae, Planctomycetes, and Proteobacteria were significantly positively correlated with most of the physical, chemical and plant indicators. Actinobacteria and Armatimonadetes were significantly negatively correlated with most measurement factors. Therefore, this study can contribute to improving the understanding of low-quality soil and how it affects soil microbial functions and sustainability.

The well-established nitric acid-sulfuric acid mixed acid process for the nitration of aromatic compounds has serious problems due to the large amount of waste acids and severe reaction conditions. Nitration of toluene can be conducted using nitrogen dioxide and ozone instead of mixed acid. We found that conc. nitric acid increased the reactivity as catalyst and the amount of nitrogen dioxide controlled the extent of nitration. Dinitration proceeded to more than 92 mole % conversion within 2 hr at $0^{\circ}C$ with 6 eq. of nitrogen dioxide and 2 eq./hr of ozone flow. Toluene completed mononitration within 30 min using 3 eq. of nitrogen dioxide, 3 eq. of nitric acid, and 1.5 eq./hr of ozone flow. As a clean process of aromatic nitration, this method is expected to replace the present process which causes the environmental problems.
This study was carried out to recover gold, silver and other valuable metals from the printed circuit boards (PCB) of waste computers. PCB samples were crushed to under 1mm by a shredder and initially separated into 30% conducting and 70% non-conducting materials by an electrostatic separator. The conducting materials, which contained the valuable metals, were then used as the feed material for magnetic separation where it was found that 42% was magnetic and 58% non- magnetic. The non-magnetic materials contained 0.227mg/g Au and 0.697mg/g Ag. Further leaching of the non-magnetic component using 2.0M sulfuric acid and 0.2M hydrogen peroxide at 85$^{\circ}C$ extracted more than 95% copper, iron, zinc, nickel and aluminium. Au and Ag were not extracted in this solution, however, more than 95% of Au and 100% of Ag were selectively leached with a mixed solvent (0.2M ammonium thiosulfate, 0.02M copper sulfate, 0.4M ammonium hydroxide). Finally, the residues were reacted with a NaCl solution to leach out Pb while sulfuric acid was used to leach out Sn. Recoveries reached 95% and 98% in solution, respectively.
This research offers recycling method of NaOH from mercerizing process of cotton fabric. The measuring system of NaOH concentration was designed for the mercerizing process and tested for various conditions which can be occurred in factory. The accuracy of the system was varied as the testing condition was changed. As the concentration of sulfuric acid used for titrating NaOH decreased, the accuracy of measuring system increased. The concentration of NaOH for waste water collected from mercerizing process was measured by 5.2%. As the ratio of newly mixed NaOH increased, moisture regain. water absorbency and whiteness of the specimen increased. The bending rigidity(B) and shear rigidity(G) decreased, as the ratio of newly mixed NaOH increased.
Transesterifications of waste oils mixed with animal tallows and vegetable oil by ultrasonic energy were examined over various catalysts for biodiesel production. Reaction activities of the transesterification were evaluated to the ultrasonic energy and thermal energy. The physicochemical properties of feedstock and products were also investigated to the biodiesels produced from the oils in the reaction using ultrasonic energy. The highest fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) yield was obtained on the potassium hydroxide catalyst in the transesterification by ultrasonic irradiation. The effective reaction conditions by ultrasonic energy were 0.5 wt% catalyst loading and 6:1 molar ratio of methanol to the mixed oils. The reaction rate of the transesterification by ultrasonic energy was faster than that by thermal energy. The highest yields of FAME were obtained as 80% in 5 min and the reaction equilibrium reached at that time.

We researched recycle of mixed waste acids including HF, $CH_{3}COOH$, $HNO_3$ produced during semiconductor wafer process. At first, we recovered HF in form of $Na_{2}SiF_6$ by precipitation using $NaNO_3$ and $Na_{2}SiO_3$. Concentration of HF was made down from 110 g/L, initial concectration, to 0.5 g/L and Recovery rate of HF was 99.5%. After recovery of HF, concentration of $HNO_3$ and $CH_{3}COOH$ is 498 g/L, 265 g/L respectively. From that mixed acid, we recovered $CH_{3}COOH$ using 2 stages of fractional distillation. In first stage, $CH_{3}COOH$ was distilled for separation from $HNO_3$. And in second stage, we recoverd refined $CH_{3}COOH$ by using fractional distillation for removing a little amount of $HNO_3$ in $CH_{3}COOH$ vapor. The concentration of recovered $CH_{3}COOH$ in second stage is 20% and finally recovery rate of $CH_{3}COOH$ is about 87.5%.
The polymer blends of waste poly(vinyl chloride) (RPVC) and waste polyethylene (RPE) were prepared by melt mixing. Various ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers (EVA) and ethylene-methacrylic acid Na salt copolymer (ionomer) were used as compatibilizer. Their morphologies and mechanical properties were evaluated as a funtion of mixing sequence and time. EVA with high vinyl acetate contents showed a rapid increment of tensile properties when small amount was added. Tensile properties of the blends were gradually increased with the addition of ionomer. Morphologies of RPVC/RPE blends were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy. FT-IR data showed that EVA was a good compatibilizer in RPVC/RPE blend compared to ionomer. Mechanical properties of the blends were highly enhanced when RPVC and compatibilizer were mixed and first RPE was added later.
Despite the benefits associated with the use of food waste (FW), there are mixed consumer perceptions regarding pork quality harvested from pigs fed FW. Twenty crossbred pigs were selected for the present study. Ten pigs were fed a conventional diet (control group), and the other 10 pigs were given a conventional diet and FW (FW group) during different growth stages. Meat quality in the FW group showed deteriorative qualities with higher lightness and yellowness synonymous to pale soft exudative meat. Drip loss in the experimental group was significantly higher than that in the control group (p<0.01). The contents of polyunsaturated fatty acids in the FW group were higher and those of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids were lower than those in the control group. The contents of thiobarbituric acid were significantly different between the control and FW groups (p<0.05). There was also a significant difference between the control and FW groups in terms of off-flavor (p<0.05) after sensory evaluation. To conclude, the off-flavor noted, including other inferior pork quality traits, in the FW group implies that FW should not be used as swine feed.

Two experiments were conducted with growing crossbred Super-Meat ducks at the experimental duck farm of Cantho University to evaluate the effects of reducing the proportion of soybean meal (SBM) in a broken rice (BR)-SBM mixture and providing soya waste (SW) ad libitum (Expt. 1), and reducing the proportion of fish meal (FM) in a BR-FM mixture and supplying ensiled shrimp waste (ESW) ad libitum (Expt.2). Both experiments included five treatments, with three replicates and ten growing ducks per replicate. In Expt.1, the five diets were based on BR and five levels of SBM, with SW offered ad libitum. The control diet (SBM25) consisted of 75% BR and 25% SBM, and the other four treatments included SBM levels of 20% (SBM20), 14% (SBM14), 8% (SBM8) and 0% (SBM0) mixed with BR to 100%, and with SW ad libitum. In Expt. 2, the control diet consisted of 86% BR and 14% FM, and the other dietary treatments had FM levels of 11% (FM11), 8% (FM8), 4% (FM4) and 0% (FM0) mixed with BR, and with ESW ad libitum. In Expt. 1, total intakes of dry matter (DM), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF) and metabolizable energy (ME) were higher for birds given SW (p<0.001). Total CP intake was highest on the SBM20 diet, and lowest on the SBM0 diet (p<0.001). Lower daily gain (DG) was found for the SBM0 diet (p<0.01). Carcass weights were higher on the control treatment, with the lowest values on the SBM0 diet (p<0.001). Gizzard weights were higher on diets with high intakes of SW (p<0.05). In Expt. 2, birds with high intakes of ESW (FM4 and FM0) had lower (p<0.01) daily intakes of DM. The total CP intakes declined (p<0.001) with higher intakes of ESW. The highest DG were for the control and FM11 diets, while the lowest value was for diet FM0 (p<0.001). The poorest feed conversion ratio (FCR) was for the FM0 treatment (p<0.01). Lower weights of carcass and breast muscle were found on the FM0 diet (p<0.001). Feed costs per kg gain were only slightly different between diets. However, the lowest feed cost was for ducks on the SBM0 and FM11 diets in Expt.1 and Expt. 2, respectively.
