  • The model using homogenization technique based on energy concept for the prediction of the failure criterion of staple fiber mixed soil was developed to increase the practice and the application of staple fiber as a reinforcement for improving soft ground. Parameters of the model are aspect ratio and volumetric content of fiber, cohesion and internal friction angle of soil, adhesion intercept and interface friction angle of soil and fiber. It is considered that the model developed in this study is applicable to the soil composed of clay, silt and sand mixed by thread types of fiber such as steel bar, steel fiber, natural fiber etc.

  • For detection and localization of leaks in closed vessels or pipes carrying liquid flow, $^{51}$ Cr-EDTA and $^{51}$ Cr-DTPA were synthesized and, the column and batch equilibrium experiments were carried out. In the column experiment, the recovery of $^{51}$ Cr-EDTA is 100% in quartz sand and 80.9% in steel sawdust, and that of $^{51}$ Cr-DTPA is 77.4% in quartz sand and 6.4% in steel sawdust. The recovery curve. $^{51}$ Cr-DTPA system in steel sawdust does not show a certain plateau, exceptionally. In general, $^{51}$ Cr-EDTA is adsorbed less than $^{51}$ Cr-DTPA. In the batch equilibrium experiment, the distribution coefficients (Kd) and effect of pH were investigated by using quartz sand, montmorillonite, steel sawdust, and mixed cement raw material as media. In general, the Kd values for $^{51}$ Cr-EDTA are lower than that of $^{51}$ Cr-DTPA. The Kd values for $^{51}$ Cr-EDTA are almost zero at pH 6.0, 7.0, and 8.0.

  • In this study we measured the changes according to time respectively on the basis of 0, 30, 60 and 90 minutes, taking into consideration the decline in fluidity of concrete according to elapsed time to analyze manufacturing capability of batcher plant according to elapsed time of ready-mixed concrete manufactured in batcher plant, and offer basic data for mixture design of ultra-high strength concrete. The proportion of water-binder was 23.55, water content was 160kg/m3, proportion of replacement of crushed sand was 0, 20 and 40% at 3 level, and we applied to the same condition of triaxial component using blast furnace slag powder and silica fume as admixture. And to meet the demand of certain fluidity, we measured respectively on property before and after hardening of ultra-high strength concrete using superplasticizer. As a result of experiment, before hardening of ultra-high strength concrete showed the best fluidity in conditions of crushed sand replacement rates of 20% and superplasticizer composition of 1.95%, but it appeared that fluidity drops as time goes by in the same composition condition. And it appeared that when it comes to hardened, the changes of compression strength according to elapsed time by crushed sand replacement rates were within 1MPa. Therefore, it turned out that the difference of strength according to elapsed time was low and compression strength of 280dys in composition mentioned above appeared highly as 88MPa.

  • The paper processed settlement analysis using Finite Elements Method(FEM). Because Stress Distribution Ratio has to be decreased, for settlement analysis of soft clay deposit improved by sand compaction piles(SCP). Back analysis was processed comparing the measured settlements of laboratory model tests and finite element analysis where the SCP treated area was assumed as mixed ground with clay deposit rather than being a composite ground. The paper proposes a methodology which employs a compression index($C_c$) for settlement analysis of soft clay deposit improved by sand compaction piles from the back analysis. This approach is applied to a field measurement case(A revetment founded on the SCP improved clay deposit with the replacement ratio of 45%).

  • In this study, in order to examine the hydraulic characteristics for a crushed stone mat. it was accomplished discharge capacity test and soil-water characteristic curve(SWCC) with the object of the research. From the test result, it produced propriety mixed ratio of the crushed stone which mixes the sand. at the time of crushed stone 100% where it does not mixes the sand it appeared that permeability was biggest. increase of shock and content of the sand showed decrease of air entry value.

  • In this research, three-point bending tests were performed using a rectangular frozen specimen with various fine contents and notch offset distance from the center of the specimen to investigate the fracture characteristic of the frozen sand. Based on the test results, mode I fracture toughness was calculated, and mixed-mode (mode I + II) fracture characteristics were investigated using the fracture energy which was calculated until the maximum point of the load-displacement curve. As the fine contents increase, the peak load and mode I fracture toughness increase until 10% fine contents. Furthermore, as the notch offset distance increases, the fracture energy required for crack start also increases due to the increase in mode II load at the crack tip.

  • This paper is to investigate the effect of poor quality aggregate source used in Korea on the mixture proportion and strength development of the high strength concrete fixed at 450 kg/m3 of cement contents. For aggregate kinds, good quality crushed stone from KS certified manufacturer and low quality crushed stone from non certified construction field are used. For fine aggregates, river sand, land sand, sea sand and mixed sand are also used. It is found that the use of low quality aggregates resulted in an increase of water demand considerably due to poor gradation of aggregate and excessive fine particles. Test results indicate that the use of low quality aggregate also decreases the compressive strength compared with that of good quality aggregate.

  • When mixed with lime, sand-bentonite mixture is characterized by considerable hydraulic properties similar to natural pozzolans and may therefore be increased in the strength of sand-bentonite mixture. The present study reports that results obtained in a series of laboratory tests carried out using particular mixing ratio of lime-sand-bentonite with the aim of investigating physical characteristics, permeability and strength. The results were compared and analyzed according to hydration time and lime content. Test results showed that increasing of strength and decreasing of permeability by proper lime content. Curing for longer periods increased unconfined compressive strength of mixture. Based on results of the falling head permeability test, mixtures of lime content 3%, 6% and 9% were satisfied in using as liner after 8-day curing periods.

  • Recently in the domestic construction industry, source depletion has resulted in instances of ready-mixed concrete companies using river sand or crushed sand with high fine particle content. But the use of such low-quality fine aggregate is known to cause concrete quality to decline and have negative effects. So this study analyzed how much of an impact changes in fine particle content have on cement mortar's engineering characteristics. As a result, the flow rate and air quantity, which are characteristics of unhardened mortar, were shown to decrease as fine particle content increased, and compression strength, a characteristic of light mortar, was shown to subtly increase as fine particle content decreased.

  • In order to investigate the effect of size of sand grains, bentonite content and moisture on mixing power, standard mixing power, permeability, green compressive strength and green mold hardness were measured with mixing time, and also coated layer of mixed sand with time was observed by optical microscope and scanning electron microscope. From this experiment, the results were summarized as follows. 1. Mixing power increased as size of sand grains decreased. 2. Mixing power increased gradually as bentonite content increased and in particular, increased rapidly in 7-10% bentonite. 3. Mixing power increased as moisture content decreased. 4. The mixing time required to get the optimum mixing power decreased as moisture content and grain size increased, but increased as bentonite content increased.
