The increasing interest in light weight materials coupled to the need for cost -effective processing have combined to create a significant opportunity for aluminum P/M. particularly in the automotive industry in order to reduce fuel emissions and improve fuel economy at affordable prices. Additional potential markets for Al PIM parts include hand tools. Where moving parts against gravity represents a challenge; and office machinery, where reciprocating forces are important. Aluminum PIM adds light weight, high compressibility. low sintering temperatures. easy machinability and good corrosion resistance to all advantages of conventional iron bm;ed P/rv1. Current commercial alloys are pre-mixed of either the AI-Si-Mg or AL-Cu-Mg-Si type and contain 1.5% ethylene bis-stearamide as an internal lubricant. The powder is compacted in closed dies at pressure of 200-500Mpa and sintered in nitrogen at temperatures between $580~630^{\circ}C$ in continuous muffle furnace. For some applications no further processing is required. although most applications require one or more secondary operations such as sizing and finishing. These sccondary operations improve the dimension. properties or appearance of the finished part. Aluminum is often considered difficult to sinter because of the presence of a stable surface oxide film. Removal of the oxide in iron and copper based is usually achieved through the use of reducing atmospheres. such as hydrogen or dissociated ammonia. In aluminum. this occurs in the solid st,lte through the partial reduction of the aluminum by magncsium to form spinel. This exposcs the underlying metal and facilitates sintering. It has recently been shown that < 0.2% Mg is all that is required. It is noteworthy that most aluminum pre-mixes contain at least 0.5% Mg. The sintering of aluminum alloys can be further enhanced by selective microalloying. Just 100ppm pf tin chnnges the liquid phase sintering kinetics of the 2xxx alloys to produce a tensile strength of 375Mpa. an increilse of nearly 20% over the unmodified alloy. The ductility is unnffected. A similar but different effect occurs by the addition of 100 ppm of Pb to 7xxx alloys. The lend changes the wetting characteristics of the sintering liquid which serves to increase the tensile strength to 440 Mpa. a 40% increase over unmodified aIloys. Current research is predominantly aimed at the development of metal matrix composites. which have a high specific modulus. good wear resistance and a tailorable coefficient of thermal expnnsion. By controlling particle clustering and by engineering the ceramic/matrix interface in order to enhance sintering. very attractive properties can be achicved in the ns-sintered state. I\t an ils-sintered density ilpproaching 99%. these new experimental alloys hnve a modulus of 130 Gpa and an ultimate tensile strength of 212 Mpa in the T4 temper. In contest. unreinforcecl aluminum has a modulus of just 70 Gpa.
Nitrous oxide is a typical greenhouse gas which is produced from various organic or fossil fuel combustion processes as well as chemicals producing plants. $N_2O$ has a global worming potential of 310 times that of $CO_2$ on per molecule basis, and also acts as an ozone depleting material in the stratosphere. However, its removal is not easy for its chemical stability characteristics. Most SCR processes with several effective reducing agents generally require the operation temperature higher than $450^{\circ}C$, and the catalytic conversion becomes decreased significantly when NOx is present in the stream. Present experiments have been performed to obtain basic design data of actual application concerning the effects of $SO_2$ and $NH_3$ on the interim and long term activities of $N_2O$ reduction with CO over the mixed metal oxide (MMO) catalyst derived from a hydrotalcite-like compound precursor. The MMO catalysts used in the experiments, have shown prominent activities displaying full conversions of $N_2O$ near $200^{\circ}C$ when CO is introduced. The presence of $SO_2$ is considered to show no critical behavior as can be met in the $NH_3$ SCR DeNOx systems and the effect of $NH_3$ is considered to play as mere an impurity to share the active sites of the catalysts.
Metal oxide(MgO) was added to FKM rubber in order to develop automotive fuel hose which ran show elastic characteristics under extreme condition. Cure characteristics, physical properties, thermal resistance and fuel resistance of FKM compounded rubber with MgO were investigated. MgO was mixed to FKM rubber materials within the range of $0{\sim}20phr$. From the test results of rheological properties and Mooney viscosity, the $t_{s2}$, $T_{c90}$ values increased as the MgO contents increased in FKM rubber compounding. Hardness and 100% modulus of FKM compounded rubber slightly increased, but tensile strength and elongations at break slightly decreased. From the test results of thermal resistance of rubber specimens at 130, 150, and $170^{\circ}C$ for 70 hrs, the changing rate of physical properties was found to be relatively small. Fuel resistance tests were carried out for fuel A, B, C and D at $40^{\circ}C$ for 70hrs, and the results showed that the changing rate in physical properties was found to increase from Fuel A to D, Furthermore thermal properties of FKM compounded rubber containing MgO were also investigated by using TGA/DSC. The optimum mixing ratio of additive to FKM rubber to get the maximum effect on thermal resistance and fuel resistance, within the range of desirable specification for rubber material, was determined to be 6 phr for MgO.
The production of biodiesel by transesterification of soybean oil was performed on $MoO_3$, $SnO_2$ and $CeO_2$ mixed oxides. The catalysts were characterized using XRD and $NH_3$-TPD. $MoO_3$ showed the highest activity among the three metal oxides. When 7 wt% of catalysts was introduced into the reactants, the highest activity was obtained and the water added to reactant decreased the catalytic activity. $MoO_3$ and $SnO_2$ mixed with 50:50 showed the highest activity and $CeO_2$ added with 20% on the $MoO_3-SnO_2$ mixed oxide also showed the highest activity. The catalytic activity showed to have a good relationship with the amount of acid site of catalysts. When the waste soybean oil was used as a reactant, the conversion was decreased about 30%.
The leaves of Duchung(Eucommia ulmoides), an oriental medicinal plant, have a peculiar aroma of Chinese medicine and astringent taste, which make the consumer be reluctant to Duchung leaf tea. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to develop a mild flavored Duchung leaf tea by mixing with other plants. The flavor patterns of developed tea were analyzed using an electronic nose. Polygonatum odoratum and Elsholtzia splendens were used for improving the flavor of Duchung leaf tea. The addition of 20, 30 and 40% of Polygonatum odoratum improved the overall acceptance in hedonic sensory evaluation. The flavor pattern of the tea was described by principal component analysis(PCA) and the resistance ratio(R/cub gas/R$\_$air/) of sensors. The PCA plot was also used to explain the mild flavor of the tea, which was extended from the right side(positive value of the first principal component) to the left side(negative value). Analysis by using an electronic nose with metal oxide sensors could be applied to detect whether mixed Duchung leaf tea was acceptable or not.
Recently the 2nd generation laboratory composite resins were introduced. Although the mechanical properties of these composite resins have been improved, there were some disadvantages such as discoloration, low abrasion resistance and debonding between metal and resin. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the tensile bond strength between non-pecious dental alloy(verabond) and four veneering reinforced composite resins ; Targis(Ivoclar Co., U.S.A.), Artglass(Kulzer CO., Germany), Sculpture(Jeneric Pentron Co., U.S.A.), and Estonia(Kurary Co., Japan). All test metal specimens were polished with #1,000 SiC paper, and sandblasted with $250{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide. After then. according to manufacturer's instructions metal adhesive primer and veneering resins were applied. All test specimens were divided into two groups. One group was dried in a desiccator at $25^{\circ}C$ for 3 days, the other group was subjected to thermal cycling($2,000{\times}$) in water($5/55^{\circ}C$). Tensile bond strength was measured using Instron Universal Testing machine and the fractured surface was examined under the naked eyes and scanning electron microscope. Within the limitations imposed in this study, the following conclusions can be drawn: 1. In no-thermal cycling groups, there were no significant differences between Estenia and VMK68 but there were significant differences between Targis, Artglass, Sculpture and VMK68(p<0.05). 2. In no-thermal cycling resin groups, the highest tensile bond strength was observed in Estenia and there were significant differences between Estenia and the other resins(p<0.05). 3. Before and after thermal cycling, there were significant differences in tensile bond strength of Targis and Artglass(p<0.05). The tensile bond strength of Artglass was decreased and that of Targis was increased. 4. In no-thermal cycling groups, Artglass showed mixed fracture modes(95%), but after thermal cycling, Artglass showed adhesive fracture modes(75%).
Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of various primers on the microtensile bond strength (${\mu}TBS$) of resin cements to cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) dental casting alloy. Materials and methods: Four adhesive primers (Universal primer, Metal primer II, Alloy primer, and Metal/Zirconia primer) and two resin cements (Panavia F2.0, G-CEM LinkAce) were tested. One hundred fifty Co-Cr beams were prepared from Co-Cr ingots via casting ($6mm\;ength{\times}1mm\;width{\times}1mm\;thick$). The metal beams were randomly divided into ten groups according to the adhesive primers and resin cements used; the no-primer groups served as the control (n = 15). After sandblasting with aluminum oxide ($125{\mu}m$ grain), the metal and resin cements were bonded together using a silicone mold. Prior to testing, all metal-resin beams were examined under stereomicroscope, and subjected to the ${\mu}TBS$ test. The mean value of each group was analyzed via one-way ANOVA with Tukey's test as post hoc (${\alpha}=.05$) using SPSS software. Results: The mean ${\mu}TBS$ of all groups was ranged from 20 to 28 MPa. There is no statistically significant difference between groups (P > .05). Mixed failure, which is the combination of adhesive and cohesive failures, is the most prevalent failure mode in both the Panavia F2.0 and G-Cem LinkAce groups. Conclusion: The ${\mu}TBS$ of all tested groups are relatively high; however, the primers used in this study result in no favorable effect in the ${\mu}TBS$ of Panavia F2.0 and G-Cem LinkAce resin cement to Co-Cr alloy.
The metals contamination of farmland soil nearby abandoned metal mine was serious problem in Korea. Stabilization of contaminated soil was reported using various stabilizers. Application of limestone and steel refining slag was reported as effective stabilizers in the stabilization of metals. The batch studies confirmed that the mixture of limestone and steel refining slag was suitable for stabilization of metals in contaminated soil. The limestone and steel refining slag mixture (2 : 1 and 3 : 2) were used in column studies and it was confirmed that the stabilizers effectively stabilized heavy metals in contaminated soil. The pH of the soil was increased with the addition of stabilizers. Total leached concentration of metals from the column study was reduced 44, 17, and 93% in comparison to the control at arsenic, cadmium and copper, respectively. The sequential extraction studies showed that the exchangeable fraction was changed into carbonate bound fraction (Cd and Cu) and Fe-Mn oxide bound fraction (As). Based on the results we confirmed that 2:1 ratio of limestone and steel refining slag effectively stabilizes the heavy metals. The mixed treatment of lime stone with steel refining slag would be an effective and feasible method for controlling metals leaching in contaminated soil.

For various additives doped-$VO_2$ critical temperature sensors using the nature of semiconductor to metal transition, the crystallinity, microstructure, and temperature vs. resistance characteristics were systematically investigated. As a starting material of $VO_2$ sensor, vanadium pentoxide ($V_2O_5$) powders were used, and CaO, SrO, $Bi_2O_3$, $TiO_2$, and PbO dopants were used, respectively. The $V_2O_5$ powders with dopants were mixed with a vehicle to form paste. This paste was silk screen-printed on $Al_2O_3$ substrates and then $V_2O_5$-based thick films were heat-treated at $500^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours in $N_2$ gas atmosphere for the reduction to $VO_2$. From X-ray diffraction analysis, $VO_2$ phases for pure $VO_2$, and CaO and SrO-doped $VO_2$ thick films were confirmed and their grain sizes were 0.57 to $0.59{\mu}m$. The on/off resistance ratio of the $VO_2$ sensor in phase transition temperature range was $5.3{\times}10^3$ and that of the 0.5 wt.% CaO-doped $VO_2$ sensor was $5.46{\times}10^3$. The presented critical temperature sensors could be commercialized for fire-protection and control systems.
For gaseous fuel combustion with inherent $CO_2$ capture and low NOx emission, chemical-looping combustion may yield great advantages for the savings of energy to $CO_2$ separation and suppressing the effect on environment, In chemical-looping combustor, fuel is oxidized by metal oxide medium in a reduction reactor. Reduced particles are transported to oxidation reactor and oxidized by air and recycled to reduction reactor. The fuel and the air are never mixed, and the gases from reduction reactor, $CO_2$ and $H_2O$, leave the system as separate stream. The $H_2O$ can be easily separated by condensation and pure $CO_2$ is obtained without any loss of energy for separation. In this study, five oxygen carrier particles such as NiO/bentonite, NiO/YSZ, $(NiO+Fe_2O_3)VYSZ$, $NiO/NiAl_2O_4$, and $Co_{\chi}O_y/CoAl_2O_4$ were examined &om the viewpoints of reaction kinetics, oxygen transfer capacity, and carbon deposition characteristics. Among five oxygen particles, NiO/YSZ particle is superior in reaction rate, oxygen carrier capacity, and carbon deposition to other particles. However, at high temperature ($>900^{\circ}C$), NiO/bentonite particle also shows enough reactivity and oxygen carrier capacity to be applied in a practical system.
