Facilitated transport is one of the possible solutions to simultaneously improve permeability and selectivity, which is challenging in conventional polymer-based membranes. Olefin/paraffin separation using facilitated transport membrane has received much attention as an alternative solution to the conventional distillation process. Herein, we report olefin separation composite membranes based on the polymer blends containing $AgBF_4/Al(NO_3)_3$ mixed salts. Free radical polymerization process was used to synthesize an amphiphilic graft copolymer of poly(dimethyl siloxane)-graft- poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (PDMS-g-POEM). In addition, poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) was introduced to the PDMS-g-POEM graft copolymer to form polymer blends with various ratios. The propylene/propane mixed-gas selectivity and permeance reached up to 5.6 and 10.05 GPU, respectively, when the PEO loading was 70 wt% in polymer blend. The improvement of olefin separation performance was attributed to the olefin facilitating silver ions as well as the highly permeable blend matrix. The stabilization of silver ions in the composite membrane was achieved through the introduction of $Al(NO_3)_3$ which suppressed the reduction of silver ions to silver particles.
Alveolar cleft belongs to the spectrum of cleft lip and/or palate, affecting 75% of cleft lip/palate patients. The goals of alveolar cleft treatment are stabilizing the maxillary arch, separating the nasal and oral cavities, and providing bony support for both erupting teeth and the nasal base via the piriform aperture. Secondary alveolar bone grafting is a well-established treatment option for alveolar cleft. Secondary alveolar bone grafting is performed during the period of mixed dentition using autologous bone from various donor sites. There are several issues relevant to maximizing the success of secondary alveolar bone grafting, including the surgical timing, graft material, and surgical technique. In this study, we reviewed issues related to surgical timing, graft materials, and evaluation methods in secondary alveolar bone grafting.

Many alloplastic materials have been used as the bony substitute in large bony defects caused by fracture, periodontitis, & cyst, etc. Nowadays Hydroxyapatite(HAP) is the most usable material as the bony substitute. The reasonable properties of HAP are nontoxic, biocompatible to host tissues & have osteoconductivity. Other bioceramic materials are recommended as the bony substitute with high success rate. We have studied the clinical use of HAP as the bony substitute in the defected area caused by cyst. The reasonalbe & successful results are obtained. The results were as followed. 1. Better prognosis was obtained in the case of HAP & bone mixed graft than HAP graft only. And the best prognosis was obtained in the case of iliac bone graft. 2. Better prognosis was obtained in Mx. than in Mn. 3. It seems that the soft tissue ingrowth into the HAP granule play an important role in the success of the HAP graft. 4. Though the flap covering the HAP granules was perforated, the relative good prognosis was obtained by re-suturing the perforeated site.
It is now widely accepted that the complete arterial coronary revascularization has better short and long term results compared to coronary bypass surgery using arterial graft mixed with vein graft mainly due to its superior patency rate. However, sometimes the internal thoracic artery and other conventionally used grafts might be unavailable or it may require caution in using bilateral internal thoracic artery especially in diabetic patient because of the possible risk of the mediastinitis or other associated morbidities. Moreover, there could also be a shortage for arterial graft in case of coronary reoperation. We report our first three cases using thoracodorsal artery(TDA) as an alternative graft in complete arterial coronary revascularization.
Purpose; Tracheal transplantation is necessary in patients with extensive tracheal stenosis, congenital lesions and many oncologic conditions but bears many critical problems compared with other organ transplantations. The purpose of this study was to make an intestine-cartilage composite graft for potential application for tracheal reconstruction by free intestinal graft. Methods; Hyaline cartilage was harvested from trachea of 2 weeks old New Zealand White Rabbits. Chondrocytes were isolated and cultured for 8 weeks. Cultured chodrocytes were seeded in the PLGA scaffolds and mixed in pluronic gel. Chondrocyte bearing scaffolds and gel mixture were embedded in submucosal area of stomach and colon of 3kg weighted New Zealand White Rabbits under general anesthesia. 10 weeks after implantation, bowels were harvested for evaluation. Results; We could identify implantation site by gross examination and palpation. Developed cartilage made a good frame for shape memory Microscopic examinations include special stain showed absorption of scaffold and cartilage formation even though not fully matured Conclusion; Intestine-cartilage composite graft could be applicable to future tracheal substitute and needs further Investigations.

Purpose: The most widely accepted protocol for alveolar cleft reconstruction is to repair it during the mixed dentition stage. There were lower resorption rate (about 88%) at this stage. However we found some cases that need repeated bone grafting. Therefore we sought to analyze the cause of repeated alveolar bone grafting in connection with other factors. Methods: From January 2000 to January 2006, thirty-nine secondary alveolar bone grafts with iliac crest spongiosa were carried out. In 39 patients, 5 patients who had significant bone graft resorption received repeated alveolar bone graft. In all the cases, the causes of repeated bone grafts were dental root exposure(angulation), and the deficiency of the bony support for lateral incisor or canine eruption. In 3 cases, there was deficiency of the alveolar bone at the cleft side. There was the need of repeated bone grafts for orthodontic treatment in 2 cases and for application of dental implants in 1 case. Results: During the follow-up period, the clinical and radiologic examinations showed that repeated alveolar bone grafts were maintained successfully without any complications. The volume of the repeated bone graft was sufficient for orthodontic treatment and implantation. Conclusion: The essential conditions for successful alveolar bone grafting includes the status of cleft sided teeth, further treatment and planed schedule, as well as canine eruption. Alveolar bone grafting has to be performed with difference of each case in mind.
Proplast and Porous Polyethylene which have porous structures as low-modulus polymers have been recently used in maxillofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery. The purpose of this study was to compare the response of adajacent tissue, new bone formation and stability after augmentation by differen methods of subperiosteal graft using proplast and purous polythylene in rabbit mandible. The augmentation procedure was carried out by dividing into two groups, A and B. A group consisted of subperiosteal graft on the cortex, and the other B group was made up only graft following artificial decortication in the mandibular body of rabbit. The experimental animals were sacrificed on the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 8th week after grafting for macroscopic and light microscopic examination. The samples extracted at the 6th postgrafting week were also used for biometric testing and scanning electron microscopic examination. The results obtained from this study were as follows : 1. Macroscopically, infection of graft site, deformation and migration of graft material were not observed in all experimental groups. 2. B group showed more rapid and increased bone formation and the greater stability than A group, and tissue response was similar to each other. 3. In the tissue response, macrophages and cellular infiltrations were observed in Proplast group, but few in PHDPE group. 4. In bone formation of A group, Proplast group showed no bone formation until the 8th week, but PHDPE group showed small quantity of osteoid tissue from the 2nd week and appositional bone growth with new bone formation at the 8th week. 5. In bone formation of B group, both Proplast and PHDPE group showed bone formation, but PHDPE group showed more rapid and larger bone formation. 6. In pattern of bone formation, Proplast group mainly showed appositional bone growth pattern connected with graft site. On the other hand, PHDPE group showed mixed pattern of new bone formation in the pore connective tissue with appositional bone growth from graff site. 7. The maximum mean values of shear stress were serially $111.3gf/mm^{2}$ in PHDPE of B group, $84.8gf/mm^{2}$ in PHDPE of A group, $32.9gf/mm^{2}$ in Proplast B group, and $15.7gf/mm^{2}$ in Proplast of A group. From above results, It was suggested that the capacity of bone formation and stability between bone and graft material were dependent on the pore size and structure of graft material itself, the state of graft site and tissue response.
The edentulous posterior maxilla generally provides a limited amount of bone height because of atrophy of the ridge and pneumatization of the maxillary sinus, Maxillary sinus augmentation is one of the surgical techniques for reconstruction of the severely resorbed posterior maxilla. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the survival rate of implants and the long-term changes of graft height after maxillary sinus augmentation by lateral window approach. From September 1996 to July 2004, maxillary sinus augmentation with mixed grafts of autograft, allograft, xenograft and alloplast were performed on 45 patients and 100 implants were placed. We evaluated the survival rate of implants and the changes of BL(bone length)/IL(implant length) according to time using panoramic radiographs. The survival rate of implants was 91.0% for follow-up period. The mean reduction of graft heights was 0.34mm(3.0%) for 6 months and 1.22mm(1O.66%) for 3 years after augmentation. The total mean BL/IL was $1.34{\pm}0.21$ during 5 year observation period after augmentation and decreased slightly over time. The result means that graft materials were stable above the implant apex. BL/ILs of 1stage procedure were significantly decreased at 1-2 year, 3-4 year after augmentation and no statistically significant changes were observed in those of 2 stage procedure. The graft materials of both procedures were stable above the implant apex. No statistically significant changes of BL/IL were observed in the grafts combined with low amount of autogenous bone or without autogenous bone. The graft materials of both groups were stable above the implant apex. The results indicated that the placement of dental implants with maxillary sinus augmentation showed predictable clinical results and the grafts combined with low amount of autogenous bone or without autogenous bone had long-term resistance to resorption in maxillary sinus.
In this paper, we developed mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) consisting of SBS-g-POEM block-graft copolymer, ionic liquid (EMIMTFSI) and ZIF-8 nanoparticles to separate a $CO_2/N_2$ gas pair. The SBS-g-POEM is a rubbery block-graft copolymer synthesized through low-cost free-radical polymerization. The EMIMTFSI was dissolved into the SBS-g-POEM matrix and solution synthesized ZIF-8 nanoparticles were also dispersed into the copolymer matrix. The physico-chemical properties of manufactured membranes were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), which showed that the components were compatible with each other. The gas separation performance was confirmed by time-lag measurements showing $CO_2$ permeability of 537.0 barrer and $CO_2/N_2$ selectivity of 15.2. The result represents the EMIMTFSI and ZIF-8 nanoparticles improves the gas permeability more than two-times, without significantly sacrificing the $CO_2/N_2$ selectivity.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of porcine cancellous bone as a scaffold in a rat calvarial defect model. Critical-sized defects were created in 30 male Sprague-Dawley rats. The animals were divided into critical defect (CD, n=10), $\beta$-tricalcium phosphate (TCP) graft (BT, n=10) and porcine cancellous bone graft (PCB, n=10) groups. Each defect was filled with $\beta$-TCP mixed with fibrin glue or porcine cancellous bone powder mixed with fibrin glue. In the CD group, the defect was left empty. All rats were sacrificed at 8 weeks after bone graft surgery, and bone formation was evaluated by gross observation, plain radiography, micro-computed tomography scanning and histological evaluation. Repair of bone defect was the least in the CD group, and significant new bone formation was observed in the PCB group. Grafting of porcine cancellous bone was more efficient for regenerating new bone than grafting $\beta$-TCP.
