A compression ignition type of diesel engine makes fuel efficiency better and $CO_2$ in the exhaust gas lower. Also it is suitable to apply alternative fuels(blended fuel) to the engine. The objective of this study is the emissions reduction of diesel engine with EF(Emulsified fuel). The emulsified fuel consists of diesel and peroxide($H_2O_2$) and Soot reduction without worsening of NOx emissions can be achieved by using thermal decomposition of the peroxide, i.e. the chemical effect of the OH radical in actual engine. For manufacturing emulsified fuel, a surfactant which is comprised of span 80 and tween 80 mixed as 9:1, was mixed with a fixed with 3% of the total volume in the emulsion fuel. In addition, considering the mixing ratio of the surfactant, the mixing ratio of $H_2O_2$ in the emulsified fuel was set as EF0, EF2, EF12, EF22, EF32, and EF42, respectively. Consequently, this study aims to obtain the optimization of fuel design(mixing) for the emulsified fuel applying to the diesel engine.
Gas identification techniques using pattern recognition methods were developed from four micro-electronic gas sensors for noxious gas mixture analysis. The target gases for the air quality monitoring inside vehicles were two exhaust gases, carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), and two odor gases, ammonia (NH3) and formaldehyde (HCHO). Four MEMS gas sensors with sensing materials of Pd-SnO2 for CO, In2O3 for NOX, Ru-WO3 for NH3, and hybridized SnO2-ZnO material for HCHO were fabricated. In six binary mixed gas systems with oxidizing and reducing gases, the gas sensing behaviors and the sensor responses of these methods were examined for the discrimination of gas species. The gas sensitivity data was extracted and their patterns were determined using principal component analysis (PCA) techniques. The PCA plot results showed good separation among the mixed gas systems, suggesting that the gas mixture tests for noxious gases and their mixtures could be well classified and discriminated changes.
A parametric study was made to understand the fundamentals of combustion of CNG fuel in a constant volume chamber in the respect of swirl effect, and the numbers of spark ignition. Optical devices were applied for the visualization of the physics of combustion, and combustion pressures and exhaust emission were measured at several equivalence ratios by controlling speeds of a swirling motor. When the speed of a swirling motor was raised the combustion conditions were improved. The corresponding maximum combustion pressure and heat release rate were increased and the speed of flame propagation was getting faster. This research may contribute to improve the performance of CNG engine and reduce emissions in future.
The engine performance and combustion characteristics of diesel oil and fish oil blended with diesel oils were investigated at various blending rate of fish oil in a diesel engine. The maximum pressure showed no significant difference among test fuels at low load, but it was higher as the blending rate of fish oil increases at high load. Increasing the blending rate of fish oil, the rate of heat release and burned fraction were higher than those of diesel oil. The ignition delay became longer than that of diesel oil as the blending rate of fish oil increases, and its differences were larger at different loads. The combustion duration and density of smoke were shorter and lower as the blending rate of fish oil increases. The rate of fuel consumption showed no significant difference between diesel oil and fish blended with diesel oils.
The oxidation of carbon monoxide on a catalyst, $LaSrNiCoO_3$ was investigatigated with a plug flow system. Kinetic quantities such as reaction-rate, reaction order and Arhenius-parameters at various reactor temperature from 200$^\circ$C to 300$^\circ$C were determined. Also, the optimum condition for the oxidation of carbon monoxide with this catalyst was determined and are as follows. Partial pressure of oxigen ; 428mmHg Partial pressure of carbon monoxide ; 332mmHg Mixed moral ratio of oxigen and Carbon monoxide ; 1.3 : 1 Total gas flow ; 224ml/min Reaction temperature ; 340$^\circ$C The reaction kinetic equation at the optimum condition, temperature range from 200$^\circ$C to 340$^\circ$C, are as follow. $$ $v = Ae^{6.5Kcal/RT} [CO]^{0.93 \sim 0.98} [O_2]^{0.42 \sim 0.50}$ $$ In addition to this, numerical calculation were performed to evaluate the mass and heat transfer effect on this system.
This study was investigated to evaluate worker exposures to organic solvents by type of print industry. Results were as follows; 1. Workers were exposed to mixture of toluene, isopropyl alcohol(IPA), methyl ethyl ketone(MEK), n-hexane, ethylacetate(EA), acetone. The components of high exposure solvents were toluene, IPA and MEK. 2. Considering additive effects of the compounds, exposure indices(Em) were calculated. The Mean of exposure indices were 1.79 for Gravere, 0.41 for Screen and 0.14 for Opset workplace. The workers of Gravere workplace were estimated to overexpose for solvents. 3. The highest overexposed solvent was toluene for a single component. The rate of overexposed level for toluene was 7.41% for some print workplace and for mixed solvent was 1.85%. 4. Local exhaust systems were inappropriate and respiratory protective devices were not supplied to the workers. 5. Sound level was over 90dB(A) in Opset print workplace and some measures should be performed to get down the sound level.

Diesel engine is a major source of the air pollution. In general the concentrations of these pollu-tants in diesel engine exhaust differ from values calculated assuming chemical equibrium. Thus the detailed chemical mechanisms by which these pollutions form and the kinetic of these process-es are important in determining emission levels. In this study the computer program has been developed to calculate the required thermodynam-ic properties of combustion products(10 spacies) for both equilibrium and non-equilibrium in cylin-der for diesel engines. Nitric oxide emissions are calculated by using the extended Zeldovich Kinet-ic mechanism with a steady state assumption for the N concentration and equilibrium values used for H, O, $O_2$ and OH concentrations. By the results it is confirmed that developed simulations program with the NO prediction model is validated against residual mass fraction combustion index of Wiebe's functions pre-mixed com-bustion ration fuel injection timing.
The instability wave formed near nozzle region grows to vortex with large scale in downstream region of spray. It plays an important role in the fuel-air mixing, combustion process and engine exhaust emissions in direct injection diesel engine. The objective of this study is to analyze effect of variant parameters (injection pressure, ambient gas density, etc.) and fuel properties on spray instability near nozzle region. Spray structure near nozzle region was investigated using a magnification photograph. A pulsed Nd-YAG laser was used as a light source, and image was taken by CCD camera. The following conclusions are drawn from this experimental analysis. In low ambient density, the effect of fuel properties on spray instability near nozzle region is dominant. In high ambient density, the effect of ambient gas on spray instability near nozzle region is dominant. High jet velocity has strong influence on spray instability.
One of the unsolved problems of the natural gas dual fuel engine is that there is too much exhaust of Total Hydrogen Carbon(THC) at a low equivalent mixture ratio. To fix it, a natural gas mixed with hydrohen was applied to engine test. The results showed that the higher the mixture ratio of hydrogen to natural gas, the higher the combustion efficiency. And when the amount of the intake air is reached to 90% of WOT, the combustion efficiency was promoted. But, like a case making the injection timing earlier, the equivalent mixture ratio for the nocking limit decreases and the produce of NOx increases.
