  • Although inverter-driven hydraulic elevators(HEL's) have advantages over traditional valve-controlled HEL's energy efficiency and performance they need robustness in performance and stability to accomodate nonlinearities big parametric variations and resonances in mechanical-hydraulic inner system. In this paper a robust controller based on DGKF/μ mixed approach is applied to a HEL system with carring capacity of 24 persons for Incheon International Airport. The results of a test tower(T/T) has shown good ro-bustness in performance and stability of the proposed controller thereby proving a feasibility of this robust controller-based approach for other HEL problems.

  • This paper presents a novel approach for constructing a piecewise triangular cubic polynomial surface with $C^1$ continuity around a common corner vertex. A $C^1$ continuity condition between two cubic triangular patches is first derived using mixed directional derivatives. An approach for constructing a surface with $C^1$ continuity around a corner is then developed. Our approach is easy and fast with the virtue of cubic reproduction, local shape controllability, $C^2$ continuous at the corner vertex. Some experimental results are presented to show the applicability and flexibility of the approach.

  • This paper addresses a mathematical approach to decision making in a real-world material distribution situation. The problem is characterized by a low-volume and highly-varied mix of products, therefore there is a lot of material movement between the facilities. This study focuses especially on the transportation scheduler with a tool that can be used to quantitatively analyze the volume of material moved, the type of truck to be used, production schedules, and due dates. In this research, we have developed a mixed integer programming problem using the minimum cost, multiperiod, multi-commodity network flow approach that minimizes the overall material movement costs. The results suggest that the optimization approach provides a set of feasible solution routes with the objective of reducing the overall fleet cost.

  • As the global market becomes more competitive, manufacturing industries face relentless pressure caused by a growing tendency of greater varieties of products, shorter manufacturing cycles and more sophisticated customer requirements. Efficient and effective supplier selection and order allocation decisions are, therefore, important decisions for a manufacturer to ensure stable material flows in a highly competitive supply chain, in particular, when customers are willing to accept products with less desirable product attributes (e.g., color, delivery date) for economic reasons. This paper attempts to solve optimally the challenging problem of supplier selection and order allocation, taking into consideration the customer flexibility for a manufacturer producing multi-products to satisfy the customers' demands in a multi period planning horizon. A new mixed integer programming model is developed to describe the behavior of the supply chain. The objective is to maximize the manufacturer's total profit subject to various operating constraints of the supply chain. Due to the complexity and non-deterministic polynomial-time (NP)-hard nature of the problem, an improved genetic approach is proposed to solve the problem optimally. This approach differs from a canonical genetic algorithm in three aspects: a new selection method to reduce the chance of premature convergence and two problem-specific repair heuristics to guarantee feasibility of the solutions. The results of applying the proposed approach to solve a set of randomly generated test problems clearly demonstrate its excellent performance. When compared with applying the canonical genetic algorithm to locate optimal solutions, the average improvement in the solution quality amounts to as high as ten percent.

  • Recently, the knowledge access about concrete might be 2 methods. One is approach about advanced and new technical development through the institute journal, the other is construction technology which is using at construction fields. However, there is no research for the interrelationship between them. So, this paper investigates the demands on construction fields at the ready mixed concrete plants on the 4 cities, the characteristics of the products like the maximum size of coarse aggregate and slump, and the extension of market on the high strength and flow ability concrete in 2000 and 2008. Moreover, this study would like to propose the investigation about diversification of construction materials for the fine construction cultures and development of the ready mixed concrete to the engineers at the construction fields.

  • The paper presents a review of the application of the newly proposed mixed finite element model for seismic simulation of different types of composite frame structures. To evaluate the performance of the element, a comparison with displacement-based and force-based models is conducted. The study revealed that the mixed model is superior to the others in terms of both speed of convergence and numerical stability, and is therefore considered the most practical approach for modeling of composite structures. In this model, the element is derived using independent force and displacement shape functions. The nonlinear response of the frame element is based on the section discretization into fibers with uniaxial material models. The interfacial behavior is modeled using an inelastic interface element. Numerical examples to clarify the advantages of the model are presented for the following structural applications: anchored reinforcing bar problems, composite steel-concrete girders with deformable shear connectors, beam on elastic foundation elements, R/C girders strengthened with FRP sheets, R/C beam-columns with bond-slip, and prestressed concrete girders. These studies confirmed that the model represents a major advancement over existing elements in simulating the inelastic behavior of composite structures.

  • The purpose of this study is estimating the recreation benefits of the largest 10 dam reservoirs in Korea. A mixed logit or random parameters log it model is constructed and estimated. Not only the recreation value of each dam lake but also the values of the main characteristics of the lakes such as the amount of water reserved, and the availability of boating and fishing are estimated. It is shown that recreation value is not less than other benefit such as irrigation, industrial, municipal use, hydro power, or even flood control benefit.

  • In this paper, a robust controller using $H_{\infty}$ control theory has been designed for the load frequency control of interconnected 2-area power system. The main advantage of the proposed $H_{\infty}$ controller is that uncertainties of power system can be included at the stage of controller design. Representation of uncertainties is modeled by multiplicative uncertainly. In the mixed sensitivity problems, disturbance attenuation and uncertainty of the system is treated simultaneously. The robust stability and the performance of model uncertainties are represented by frequency weighted transfer function. The design of load frequency controller for each area was based on state-space approach. The comparative computer simulation results for the proposed controller and the conventional techniques such as the optimal control and the PID one were analyzed at the additions of various disturbances. Their deviation magnitude of frequency and tie line power flow at each area were mainly evaluated. Also the testing results of robustness for the cases that the perturbations of the all parameters of power system were amounted to about 20% were introduced. It was approved that the resultant performances of the proposed $H_{\infty}$ controller with mixed sensitivity were more robust and stable than the one of conventional controllers.

  • Single trait mixed models have been dominantly utilized for genetic evaluation of the reproductive traits in swine. However employing multiple trait approach may lead to more accurate genetic evaluations. For 5 litter size and litter weight traits of Danish Landrace, genetic parameters were estimated with a multiple trait mixed model. The heritability estimates were 0.02, 0.03, 0.03, 0.05, and 0.07, respectively for litter size at birth, litter size born alive, litter weight at birth, litter size at weaning, and litter weight at weaning. Negative genetic correlations were all positive. The litter weight at birth showed genetic antagonism with litter size born alive (-0.65) and litter size at weaning (-0.31), but positive with litter size at birth (0.47) and litter weight at weaning (0.31). The estimates of environmental correlations were larger than their corresponding genetic correlation estimates except for those between litter weight at birth and the other four traits. This study recommends simultaneous selection for two or more traits with multivariate mixed models in order to improve overall economic response.
