  • This paper describes a new method of mask compaction to formulate a mixed integer linear programming problem from a user defined stick diagram. By solving this mixed integer program, a compacted and design rule violation free layout is obtained. Also, a new efficient algorithm is given which solves the longest problem in the constraint graph.

  • Manufacturers, or vendors, and their customers continue to adopt vendor-managed inventory(VMI) program to improve supply chain performance through collaboration achieved by consolidating replenishment responsibility upstream with vendors. In this paper, we construct a mixed integer linear programming model and propose a genetic algorithm for the integrated inventory and routing problems with lost sales maximizing the total profit in the VMI supply chains which comprise of a single manufacturer and multi-retailer. The proposed GA is compared with the mathematical model on the various sized test problems with respect to the solution quality and computation time. As a result, the GA demonstrates the capability of reaching solutions that are very close to those obtained by the mathematical model for small problems and stay within 3.2% from those obtained by the mathematical model for larger problems, with a much shorter computation time. Finally, we investigate the effects of the cost and operation variables on the total profit of the problem as well as the GA performance through the sensitivity analyses.

  • The purpose of this paper is to describe the design of a general multipurpose batch process or plant in terms of a series of mathematical programing models, and to develop approach solution methodologies. The proposed model for a single period is based on the formulation (MINLP; Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming) of Papageorgaki and Reklaitis [1], but was linearized (MILP; Mixed Integer Linear Programming) so as to obtain an exact and practical solution, and to allow treatment of uncertainties to be considered in expanding the plant. As a solution strategy a modified Benders' Decomposition was introduced and was tested on three example problems. The optimizing solver, OSL code provided by the IBM Corporation, was used for solving the problems. The solution method was successful in that it showed remarkable reduction in the computing times as compared with the direct solution method.

  • Optimal methods for designing multiplierless IIR filters with cascaded prefilter-equalizer structures are proposed for narrowband applications. Assuming that an U filter consists of a cyclotomic Polynomial (CP) prefilter and an all-Pole equalizer based on interpolated first order polynomial (IFOP), in the proposed method the prefilter and equalizer are simultaneously designed using mixed integer linear programming (MILP). The resulting filter is a cascaded filter with minimal complexity. In addition, MtP tries to minimize both computational complexity and phase response non-linearity. Design examples demonstrate that the proposed methods produce a more efficient cascaded prefilter-equalizer than existing methods.

  • In this paper, the problem of determining cyclic schedules for a material handling hoist in the printed-circuit-board(PCB) electroplating line is considered. The objective of this research is to determine an optimal simple-cycle schedule of the hoist which in turn maximizes the line throughput rate. Previous approaches to the cyclic hoist scheduling problem are all mathematical programming-based approaches to develop cyclic schedules(Mixed Integer Programming, Linear Programming based Branch and Bound, Branch and Bound Search Method and so on). In this paper, a genetic algorithm-based approach for a single hoist scheduling in the PCB electroplating line is described. Through some experiments for the well known example data and randomly generated data, the proposed algorithm is shown to be more efficient than the previous mathematical programming-based algorithm.

  • Impossible differential characteristics distinguish the corresponding block cipher from random substitution and can also be used for key recovery attack. Recently Cui et al. proposed an automatic method for searching impossible differential characteristics of several ARX - based block ciphers using Mixed Integer Linear Programming(MILP). By optimizing the method proposed by Cui et al., It was possible to find new impossible differential characteristics which could not be founded by the method by using less linear constraint expression than the existing method. It was applied to the SPECK family and LEA using the modified method. We found 7-rounds for SPECK32, SPECK48, SPECK64, SPECK96 and 8-rounds impossible differential characteristics of SPECK128. These impossible differential characteristics are all newly found. We also found existing 10-rounds of impossible differential characteristic and new 10-rounds of impossible differential characteristics of LEA.

  • This paper presents the two-step strategy method of performing optimal scheduling of paper mill processes using MINLP (Mixed-Integer Non-Linear Programming) considering the trim loss problem in sheet cutting processes. The mathematical model for a sheet cutting process in the form of MINLP is developed in this study, and minimizing total cost is performed considering the cost of raw paper roll, :hanging cutting patterns, storage of over-product and recycling/burning trim. The paper has been used to deliver and conserve information for a long time, and it is needed to have various sizes and weights ...

  • This paper considers a scheduling algorithm for high-speed routers, where the router has an N x N port input-queued switch and the input queues are composed of N VOQ(Virtual Output Queue)s at each input port. The major concern of the paper is on the scheduling mechanism for the router. The paper discusses the preferred levels of the performance measures and then develope a non-linear mixed integer programming. Additionally, the paper suggests a heuristic scheduling algorithm for efficient and effective switching.

  • This paper is concerned with Vehicle Routing Problem to minimize the total delivery waiting time of customers. The delivery waiting time is the time taken to travel from the depot to the customer, which is important for the delivery of the perishing products or foods requiring freshness. We construct a mixed integer linear programming formulation of this problem, and CR(Clustering first Routing second) heuristic and SPH(set partitioning heuristic) are suggested. the results of computational experiments showed that these heuristics find successfully favorable solutions, in much shorter time than optimal.

  • In this paper, we formulate the minimum power multicast problem in wireless networks as a mixed integer linear programming problem and then propose a Lagrangean relaxation based algorithm to solve this problem. By leveraging on the information from the Lagrangean multiplier, we could construct more power efficient routing paths. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms the existing approaches for broadcast, multicast, and unicast communications.
