Amiodarone hydrochloride is an antiarrhythmic agent which has low aqueous solubility and presents bioavailability problem. These properties are a challenge for the pharmaceutical industry. Inclusion of lipophilic compound in the hydrophobic core of micelles, i.e. self-assembled structures based on surfactants in aqueous solution, is one way of increasing the solubility. Intravenous formulation of amiodarone hydrochloride with polysorbate 80 as a detergent and benzyl alcohol as a co-solvent is used in medical practice. This paper aimed to study the effect of polysorbate 80 and benzyl alcohol on the water solubility of amiodarone hydrochloride. Formation of mixed micelles consisting of nonionic surfactant polysorbate 80 and cationic amiodarone with chloride counterion was investigated by fluorescence spectroscopy. Benzyl alcohol was found to decrease the stability of the mixed micelles and lead to crystallization of amiodarone hydrochloride. The greatest amounts of crystals formed at 4℃ for 30 days in the model drug solutions with polysorbate 80 concentrations of 100.1 mg/mL and 97.9 mg/mL. A change of the polysorbate 80 concentration and avoidance the use of benzyl alcohol are recommended to improve the stability of the parenteral dosage form. These results can open new perspectives in the optimization of amiodarone intravenous formulations.

Copper-based leadframe sheets were oxidized in a hot alkaline solution to form brown-oxide layer on the surface and molded with epoxy molding compound (EMC). The brown-oxide-coated leadframe/EMC joints were machined to form sandwiched double-cantilever beam (SDCB) specimens and sandwiched Brazil-nut (SBN) specimens for the purpose of measuring the fracture toughness of leadframe/EMC interfaces. The SDCB and the SBN specimens were designed to measure the fracture toughness of the leadframe/EMC interfaces under nearly mode-I loading and mixed-mode (mode I + mode II) loading conditions, respectively. Fracture surfaces were analyzed by various equipment such as glancing-angle XRD, SEM, AES, EDS and AFM to elucidate failure path. Results showed that failure occurred irregularly in the SDCB specimens, and oxidation time of 2 minutes divided the types of irregular failures into two classes. The failure in the SBN specimens was quite different from that in the SDCB specimens. The failure path in the SBN specimens was not dependent on the phase angle as well as the distance from tips of pre-cracks.
This study examined the combined using effects of urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin and emulsifiable methylene diphyenyl diisocyanate (EMDI) resin to overcome performance limit of three-layer particleboards commonly made by UF resin. Two adhesive adding methods were applied with three types of resin combination system to each layer of particleboards. The one was simultaneously spreading method with emulsified compound resin (UF and EMDI) while the other was separately spreading method with unemulsified EMDI resin after UF resin spreading. The performance of particleboards bonded with 2% EMDI resin to the inner layers(IL) were similar to that of controls bonded with 8% UF resin. In the case of the emulsified compound resin application to the all layers of particleboards, there were marked reinforcing effects of EMDI resin, although a small amount of EMDI resin was mixed with UF resin. Especially bending MOR after 24 hours cold water-immersion and thickness swelling after 2 hours hot water-immersion of compound resin-bonded particleboards were remarkably different from those of pure UF resin-bonded particleboards. It was found that separately spreading method with unemulsified EMDI resin was more effective than simultaneously spreading method with emulsified compound resin to sustain the internal bond strength of particleboards after 24 hours cold water-immersion. In the resin combination systems to outer layers/inner layers of particleboards, water resistance and strength properties were superior in order of UF+EMDI/UF+EMDI > UF/UF+EMDI > UF/UF. And water resistance of particleboards was greatly dependent upon EMDI resin level in any adhesive adding method.
Garbon steel(SM35C) was gas nitrocarburized at $580^{\circ}C$ in $55%N_2-40%NH_3-5%CO_2$ mixed gas atmosphere, and then the steel was induction hardened at $850^{\circ}C$. The microstructure of gas nitrocarburized surface layer was observed by optical microscope and SEM. The phase analysis was carried out by X-ray diffraction method. The mechanical properties of gas nitrocarburized SM35C steel was evaluated by hardness, wear and fatigue test. The thickness of compound and diffusion layer were increased with increasing the gas nitrocarburizing time and the densest compound layer was obtained at 3 hours gas nitrocarburizing time. In case of 15sec induction hardening after gas nitrocarburizing, the surface hardness was decreased from 800Hv to 630Hv owing to the decomposition of compound layer, but wear resistance was increased because of increased hardness of diffusion layer. The fatigue strength of induction hardened steel after gas nitrocarburizing, $58kgf/mm^2$, was higher than $41.5kg/mm^2$ of gas nitrocarburized steel and $45kg/mm^2$ of induction hardened steel, respectively.
The biodegradation of Aroclor 1242 was investigated by the mixed cultivation of the natural bacterial isolates and a genetically engineered microorganism (GEM). The natural strain of MS-1003 degraded the Aroclor 1242 through the ortho-cleavage pathway, while the other strains through the meta-cleavage pathway. When the MS-1003 strain was additionally inoculated into the 1 day culture of the DJ-26 strain and then cultivated for 2 days, the Aroclor was degraded up to 86% and resulted in increase of the meta-cleavage product. But in the MS-1003 culture inoculated with the DJ-26, degradation of the Aroclor was limited to the level of each pure culture. By the mixed cultivation of the DJ-26 strain together with the DJ-12 or its GEM strain of DF-10, which degrades the Aroclor through the meta-cleavage pathway, degradation of the Aroclor as well as production of the meta-cleavage compound were lower than those of each pure culture. The degradation of Aroclor 1242 by the GEM strain was not improved over the parental strain. Therefore, a form of cometaboiism of Aroclor 1242 was found in the mixed culture of the DJ-26 and MS-1003 strains which degrade the Aroclor through the different metabolic pathway, but in the mixed culture of the DJ-26 and DJ-12 strains degrading Aroclor 1242 through the same pathway, a kind of competetion for the substrate was observed.
Using the post-consumer waste and edge scrap mixed PET with small amount PP air filter elements of automobiles. It was studied that these mixed waste plastics of the various types of the PET were practicable for the material recycling. Various waste PET/PP plastics were collected, crushed, dried in vacuum, and extruded to recycled PET/PP chips. These chips were mixed with three kinds compatibilizers, EVA, MBS, and recycled PVB of the ratio of $3{\sim}10wt.%$ for the purpose of the compatibility for the post-consumer waste and edge scrap. We investigated mechanical and thermal properties of PET/PP mixtures which were compound with the weight ratio of compatibilizers. Compatibilizer, MBS application was showed the most excellent mechanical properties in the range of the $3{\sim}5wt.%$ EVA application was displayed good impact strength and thermal property in the range of $3{\sim}5wt.%$ Last, recycled PVB application was showed poor mechanical properties in the whole range ratio of the PVB.
New quaternary compounds $ANb_2PS_{10}$ (A = Na, Ag) and $AuNb_4P_2S_{20}$ were synthesized and characterized. The structures of three compounds consist of one-dimensional infinite chains built by [$Nb_2S_{12}$] and [$PS_4$] units. Cation atoms are occupied within the van der Waals gap of sulfur atoms between infinite chains to make -S…$M^+$…S- contacts. There is only one Au atom site and so crystallographically a unit cell contains four equivalent Au atoms in $AuNb_4P_2S_{20}$. This is only the half of the numbers of Na or Ag atoms in $NaNb_2PS_{10}$ or $AgNb_2PS_{10}$. The ratio between $Nb_2PS_{10}$ matrix vs the cation is, therefore, 1 : 1 for Ag and Na, but it is 2 : 1 for Au. Mixed valency in Au or Nb was expected to balance the charge in the latter compound. The electronic structures calculated based on the extended Huckel tight-binding method show that $ANb_2PS_{10}$ (A = Ag, Na) are semiconducting, while $AuNb_4P_2S_{20}$ is metallic, which is not consistent with the experimental results of these three compounds that all exhibit semiconducting property. The result of calculation suggests that $AuNb_4P_2S_{20}$ might be a magnetic insulator. Magnetic measurement experiment exactly proved that the compound is a Slater antiferromagnetic material with the Neels' temperature of 45 K. It is recognized, therefore, that electronic structure analysis is very useful to understand the properties of compounds.
Hybrid nanomaterials consisting of multi-walled carbon nanotube(MWNT) and/or PEDOT of conductive polymer were prepared in this study. In the presence of catalyst and ligand, the MWNT-Br compound prepared by the successive surface treatment reaction was mixed with MMA to initiate the atom transfer radical polymerization process. PMMA was covalently linked to the surface of MWNT for the formation of MWNT/PMMA nanocomposites. The EDOT and oxidant were added in the aqueous emulsion of PS produced via a miniemulsion polymerization process and then it proceeded to carry out the oxidative chemical polymerization of EDOT for the preparation of PEDOT/PS nanoparticles with the core-shell structure. The aqueous dispersion of PEDOT:poly(styrene sulfonate) (PSS) was mixed with the silica particles treated with a silane compound and thus PEDOT:PSS-clad silica nanoparticles were prepared by the surface chemistry reaction. The hybrid nanomaterials were analyzed by using TEM, FE-SEM, TGA, EDX, UV, and FT-IR.
In Al-25Nb binary system, it was observed only formation of $D0_{22}$$Al_3Nb$ intermetallic compound after 5hr milling but it was not observed formation of meta stable phase like L1$_2$ phase. In this state, $D0_{22}$$Al_3Nb$ fabricated had nano sized grain of approximately 20nm. Ternary systems, transition metals such as Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn were added 6~12at.% as substitution of Al, showed formation of $D0_{22}$$Al_3Nb$ like Al-25Nb binary system. In Al- l2Cu-25Nb system, it was observed that broad XRD pattern like amorphization of Al and not observed formation of $D0_{22}$$Al_3Nb$ after 5hr milling. But there was mixed phase of a lot of amorphous Al and little $D0_{22}$$Al_3Nb$ through TEM. In the states of unalloyed, 5~7hr milling time, those showed exothermic reaction at 35$0^{\circ}C$, which was formation of $D0_{22}$$Al_3Nb$ like Al-25Nb binary system. With increasing milling time to 10hr, $D0_{22}$$Al_3Nb$ was transformed to mixed phase of amorphous and nanocryatlline, having approximately 10nm grain but the meta stable $Al_3Nb$ was not fabricated by adding transition metals.
Ginsenosides have been regarded as the principal components responsible for the pharmacological and biological activities of ginseng. Absorption of major ginsenosides from the gastrointestinal tract is extremely low, when ginseng is orally administered. In order to improve absorption and its bioavailability, conversion of major ginsenosides into more active minor ginsenoside is very much required. Here, we isolated lactic acid bacterium (Lactobacillus brevis LH8) having ${\beta}-glucosidase$ activity from Kimchi. Bioconversion ginsenoside Rd by this bacterium in different temperatures was investigated. The maximum activities of crude enzymes precipitated by ethanol were shown in $30^{\circ}C$ and then gradually decreased. In order to compare the effect of pH, the crude enzymes of L. brevis LH8 were mixed in 20mM sodium phosphate buffer (pH 3.5 to pH 8.0) and reacted ginsenoside Rd. Ginsenoside Rd was almost hydrolyzed between pH 6.0 and pH 12.0, but not hydrolyzed under pH 5.0 and above pH 13.0. Ginsenoside Rd was hydrolyzed after 48 h incubation, whereas ginsenoside F2 appeared from 48 h to 72 h, and ginsenoside Rd was almost converted into compound K after 72 h.
