  • Networked Control Systems(NCS) contain the structure which controllers, actuators and sensors are connected to communication network. And they have been adopted in large and complicated plant area due to the advantages of mitigating computational bottleneck and maintenance. Although this structure provides many benefits, it brings in problems of unpredictable communication delay, data loss and corruption. This phenomena have to be considered in designing NCSs since it affects on overall control system stability. This paper introduces network traffic test method for ethernet based NCSs to find out maximum network usage which guarantee stable control operation. Test results shows this methods can be adopted in various types of NCSs and contributes economical system design and effective system operation.

  • A simulation of water hammer, introduced by abruptly varied motion of a pumping machine, was performed at a one of typical pumping station in Korea. Impact of hydraulic structure such as check valve, pressure relief valve and air valve in mitigating water hammer effect was estimated gradually. Method of characteristic was employed for the effective calculation of discharge and head. The relationship between various hydraulic structures and flow was properly integrated on the base of the method of characteristic. The methodology in this approach can provide significant contribution in decision making procedure for the design of hydraulic structure at a typical pumping station in Korea.

  • Voltage sags are one of the most frequently occurring power quality problems challenging power systems today. The Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) is one of the major custom power solutions that are capable of mitigating the effect of supply voltage sags at the load or Point of Common Coupling (PCC). A UPQC-Q employs a control method in which the series compensator injects a voltage that leads the supply current by $90^{\circ}C$ so that the series compensator at steady state consumes no active power. However, the UPQC-Q has the disadvantage that its series compensator needs to be overrated. Thus it cannot offer effective compensation. This paper proposes a new control scheme for the UPQC-Q that offers minimum power injection. The proposed minimum power injection method takes into consideration the limits on the rated voltage capacity of the series compensator and its control scheme. The validity of the proposed control scheme is investigated through simulation and experimental results.

  • The sag is phenomenon that magnitude of load voltage temporarily decreases because of power system fault. If a certain equipment in industrial process have any trouble result from sag. it can cause utility to be charged for enormous economics loss. Therefore it need to analyze the characteristic of sag and then mitigation method for sags in distribution system in odor to increase reliability. This paper gives an overview of sags characteristic due to short circuit fault in distribution system and after a general discussion of the various forms mitigation, gives a sags mitigation method with concentrating on changing the distribution system like spot network, on-site generation.

  • Due to ELV banning, automotive electronics cannot use four kinds of heavy metal element (Pb, Hg, Cd, $Cr^{6+}$) from 2016. Therefore, this study was focused on degradation characteristics of Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu Lead-free solder joint with OSP and ENIG finsh under various reliability assessment method, as like to thermal shock test and high temeprature/high humidity test with test duration for cabin electronics. Also, we compared bonding strength degradation to other advanced research results of electronic control unit for engine room because of difference service temperature with mount location in automotive. Whisker growth phenomenon and mitigation method which were essentially consideration items for Pb-free car electronics were examined. Conformal coating is a strong candidate for mitigating whisker growth in automotive electronics. Necessary condition to adapt Pb-free in car electronics was shown.

  • We designed a self-timed interface circuit for efficient communication in IP (Intellectual Property)-based system with high-speed self-timed FIFO and a set of self-timed event logic library with 0.25um CMOS technology. Optimized self-timed standard cell layouts and Verilog models are generated for top-down design methodology. A method for mitigating a design bottleneck when it comes to tolerate clock skew is described. With clock control method and FIFO, we implemented high-speed 32bit-interface chip for self-timed system, which generated maximum system clock is 2.2GHz. The size of the core is about 1.1mm x 1.1mm.

  • This study presents an electromagnetic model for predicting shaft voltages in a 2-pole field-excited synchronous generator. After the first observations on shaft voltages were made more than a century ago, extensive work has been conducted on eliminating, mitigating, and integrating the aforementioned phenomena. Given that emphasis has been placed on modeling shaft- and bearing-induced voltages in AC motors driven by variable frequency drives, similar efforts toward a model that is dedicated to generators are insubstantial. This work endeavors to improve current physical interpretation and prediction methods for shaft-induced voltages in generators through semi-analytical derivation. Aside from the experimental validation of the model, investigations regarding the behavior of shaft voltages under varying machine complexities and operating conditions clarify previous uncertainties regarding these phenomena. The performance of the numerical method is also assessed for application in eccentricity fault diagnosis.

  • Nowadays, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) comprise a tremendously growing infrastructure for monitoring the physical or environmental conditions of objects. WSNs pose challenges to mitigating energy dissipation by constructing a reliable and energy saving network. In this paper, we propose a novel network construction and routing method by defining three different duties for sensor nodes, that is, node gateways, cluster heads, and cluster members, and then by applying a hierarchical structure from the sink to the normal sensing nodes. This method provides an efficient rationale to support the maximum coverage, to recover missing data with node mobility, and to reduce overall energy dissipation. All this should lengthen the lifetime of the network significantly.

  • The arcing contact wear of circuit breakers can be the major cause for the maintenance requirement. The control of arcing times as short as possible but larger than the given minimum arcing time may be the effective way to mitigate the contact wear and to lessen the expenditure of a maintenance. In this paper the method for minimizing the arcing time is described. The basic concept used in the proposed method is the estimation of the current interruption instant from the informations such as the phase angle at the instant of trip commands and the magnitude of interrupted currents.

  • Before COVID-19, tourist destinations have experienced problems with congestion of both famous tourist attractions and public transportation. Over-tourism is not an issue at this time, but it is likely to rekindle after the COVID-19 pandemic ends. One method of mitigating over-tourism is to estimate tourist behavior using a tourist transition model and consequently adjust public transportation operations. In this study, we propose a construction method for a model of tourist transitions among tourist attractions based on tourist GPS trajectory data. We construct tourist transition models using actual trajectory data for tourists staying in the vicinity of Kyoto City. The results verify the model performance.
