특정상호작용을 갖는 Flory 상태방정식 이론에서의 고분자 용액의 부분혼합도 (Partial Miscibility of Polymer Solutions in the Theory of Flory's Equation of State With Specific Interaction)

  • Flory의 상태방정식 이론에 서로 다른 분자간의 특정상호작용을 첨가할 때 나타날 수 있는 고분자 용액에서의 부분혼합도에 대하여 고찰하였다. 특히, 원형모양의 상도가 나타날 수 있음을 보였다. 그리고, 그 경우에 대한 일반적인 조건을 유도하였고 그 상도에 미치는 몇몇 인자들의 일반적인 효과를 조사하였다.

  • 확장된 Flory-Huggins의 격자이론에 의해 예측될 수 있는 액체 이성분계의 여러 부분혼화도를 제시하였으며, 각 경우에 있어서의 수학적 조건를 구하였다. 그리고, 그 이론을 사용하여 물-2-부탄올계에서 나타나는 비정상적인 부분혼화도가 존재할 수 있음을 보였다.

Electron Spin Resonance Study on the Miscibility of Poly(ethylene glycol) with Cathonic Dodecyl Trimethylammonium Bromide Micelle

  • The interaction of poly(ethylene glycol)(PEG) with cationic dodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (DTAB)micelle was studied with electron spin resonance (ESR) by determining line widths of the ESR spectra and coupling constant of nitrogen($A_N$). The degree of ESR line shape change such as line widths and coupling constant indicated that PEG mixes well with DTAB micelle due to a great hydrophobic interaction with surfactant alkyl chains. This suggests that the PEG can be used as non-ionic surfactant to disperse the exposed oil in the ocean.

  • Mutual miscibility between thermotropic, nematic compounds with two terminal mesogenic units and a central spacer was studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and on a polarizing microscope. It was found that the isomorphous, nematic dimesogenic compounds with wide variety of structures are miscible in mesophases with each other over the whole range of composition and that Schroder-van Laar equation almost correctly predicts the melting temperature and composition of eutectic mixtures. There was a pair of compounds which were exceptional and did not form a eutectic mixture and, instead, revealed a monotonous change in melting (T$_{m}$) and isotropic transition temperatures (T$_{i}$) as the composition of the mixture was varied. The compounds were of almost same structure in shape and seemed to undergo formation of solid solution.

  • $Zn_xSr_{1-x}S$ 박막을 sputtering법에 의해 제작하여 결정구조, 결합상태, 광학적 특성 등의 분석에 의해 고용체 유무를 판단하고 유전체 이론과 비교.검토하였다. 실험 결과 $0.86~0.93{\leq}x{\leq}1$에서 zincblende구조, $0{\leq}x{\leq}0.29$ 범위에서 rocksalt 구조의 고용체로 되었으며, 이들 영역에서는 격자정수, 결합에너지 및 흡수단은 조성에 따라 거의 직선적으로 변화했다. 상분리 영역을 포함한 miscibility gap은 $0.3{\leq}x{\leq}0.86~0.91$범위에서 존재하고 이 영역에서의 격자정수, 결합에너지 및 흡수단은 경계 조성의 값으로 일정했다. 상전이에 관한 실험결과는 Phillips의 유전이론에 기초한 이온성과 일치하였다.

Blends containing two thermotropic liquid crystalline polymers: Effects of transesterification on miscibility and rheology

  • Blends of two thermotropic liquid crystalline polymers, HX2000 and Vectra A950, were prepared by melt blending. Effects of transesterification on these blends are investigated by comparing properties of the blends with and without the addition of an inhibitor, in terms of blend miscibility and rheology. Both the uninhibited and inhibited blends are found to be largely immiscible with very limited miscibility in HX2000-rich phase. No strong evidence indicates the occurrence of transesterification in the blends in the solid state. Dynamic rheological behaviour, such as shear storage modulus (G') and shear loss modulus (G") as a function of frequency, of the blends are interpreted by a three-zone model. HX2000 shows terminal-zone and plateau-zone behaviour, whilst Vectra A950 shows plateau-zone and transition-zone behaviour. The un- inhibited blends show plateau-zone behaviour up to 50% Vectra A950 content and the inhibited blends show plateau-zone behaviour up to 60% Vectra A950 content. Compositional dependence of the complex viscosities of the uninhibited and inhibited blends displayed positive deviations from additivity, which is a characteristic feature for the immiscible thermoplastic blends. When under steady shear, both the uninhibited and inhibited blends show shear thinning behaviour and their viscosities decrease monotonically with the addition of Vectra A950. Compositional dependence of the steady shear viscosities of the two sets of blends displayed negative deviations from additivity and the uninhibited blends were more viscous than the inhibited blends for the full composition range. Although limited agreement with the Cox-Merz rule is found for the inhibited blends, these two sets of blends, in general, do not follow the rule due to their liquid crystalline order and two-phase morphology. Despite being immiscible blends, transesterification, such as polymerization, in the blends might occur during the rheological characterization, supported by the facts that uninhibited blends show HX2000-dominant behaviour at lower Vectra A950 content and are more viscous than the inhibited blends. The addition of transesterification inhibitor in such blends is advised if only physical mixing is desired.ired.
