  • To detect the failures in machine, the signals of current, vibration and acoustic emission are widely used in industry. And unexpected failures of gears are not only extremely damaging but also lead to economic losses. In this paper, to detect the misalignment occurred at between two gears in gearboxes, the signals of current, vibration and AE were measured at gearbox and motor power line. FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) was used for current and vibration signal analysis to find gear failure frequency. Especially, the envelop analysis and wavelet transform were applied for AE signal. Therefore, compared with the results of three kinds of signal, the possibility of earily detection by AE is identified or checked.

  • In order to investigate the mechanism of brake squeal noise, the sound and vibration of an actua1 brake system were measured using a brake dynamometer. The experimental results show that disc run-out varies with brake line pressure and the factor of squeal generation is the run-out due to the misalignment of brake disk. A three degrees of freedom friction model is developed for the disk brake system where the run-out effect and nonlinear friction characteristic are considered. The results of numerical analysis of the model agree well with the experimental results. Also, the stability analysis of the model was performed to predict the generation of brake squeal due to the design parameter modification of brake systems. The results show that the squeal generation depends on the nm-out rather than the friction characteristic between the pad and the disk of brake.

  • The proposed inertial measurement unit (IMU) is composed of accelerometers only. It can determine a vehicle's position and attitude, which is the Gyro-free INS. The Gyro-free INS error is deeply affected by the sensor bias, scale factor and misalignment. However, these parameters can be obtained in the laboratory. After these misalignments are corrected, the Gyro-free strap-down INS could be more accurate. This paper presents a compensator design for the strap-down six-accelerometer INS to correct misalignment. A calibration experiment is taken to get the error parameters. A simulation results show that it will decrease the INS error to enhance the performance after compensation.

  • Optical axis misalignment, which represents the position deviation of the objective lens from the optical axis, is an inevitable assembly error in an optical pick-up. Since the laser power intensity varies with respect to the distance from the optical axis, the misalignment leads to variation of the laser spot power intensity, which is one of the critical factors increasing data bit-error-rate in optical disc drives. In this paper, an auto-adjustment scheme for optical axis alignment is proposed to eliminate the undesirable variation of the laser spot power intensity in optical disc drives. An envelope of the data RF signal is extracted and utilized to detect the optical axis misalignment. Then an adjustment input is added to the driving input of the tracking actuator to shift the objective lens to the optical axis. Finally, the feasibility is verified by experiments.

  • Time responses of a flexible spinning disk of which axis of symmetry is misaligned with the axis of rotation are analyzed in a numerical manner. Equations of motions are derived by Hamilton's principle based on Kirchhoff plate theory and von-Karman strain theory, and the equations are discretized by finite element method. In obtaining the time responses, Generalized-$\alpha$ method is used to solve the equations. Based on the result, the effects of the misalignment are analyzed on the vibration characteristics of a spinning disk.

  • The influence of aerated oil on high-speed journal bearing Is examined by thermohydrodynamic lubrication theory to lubrication with mixtures of a Newtonian liquid and an ideal gas. For this purpose, analytical models for viscosity and density of aerated oil in fluid-film bearing are applied. Convection to the walls, mixing with supply oil and re-circulating oil, and some degree of journal misalignment are considered. The results show that deliberate oil aeration can increase the load capacity of high-speed plain Journal bearing. And the load capacity is increased more by oil aeration under the conditions of shaft misalignment and higher speed.

  • Gear system has been widely used in industrial applications and unexpected failures of gears are not only extremely damaging but also leading to economic losses. So, early detection of fault is important for diagnosis machine condition. And acoustic emission is an efficient non-destructive testing technique fur the diagnosis of machine health and is useful technique far early detection of fault because it can find low-amplitude and high-frequency signal on account of high sensibility. Therefore, in this paper, the AE signal was measured and preprocessed using envelope analysis for gearbox with misalignment between pinion and gear. And then the gear misalignment's vibration characteristic were analyzed.

  • Many types of optical plastic films are essential in optoelectronics display unit fabrication and it is important to develop high precision laser cutting methods of optical films with extremely low level of film surface contamination by fume particles. This study investigates the effects of suction and blowing air motions with air flow misalignment in removing fume particles from laser cut line by employing random particle trajectory simulation and probabilistic particle generation model. The computational results show fume particle dispersion behaviors on optical film under suction and blowing air flow conditions. It is found that suction air flow motion is more advantageous to blowing air motion in reducing film surface contamination outside designated target margin from laser cut line. While air flow misalignment adversely affects particle dispersion in blowing air flows, its effects become much more complicated in suction air flows by showing different particle dispersion patterns around laser cut line. It is required to have more careful air flow alignment in fume particle removal under suction air flow conditions.

  • This study analyzes the effect of misalignment exchange rate on economic performance asymmetrically. The results show that the over valuation of the real effective exchange rate of won has a significant positive relationship with economic performance. The under valuation of the real effective exchange rate of won has a positive effect on economic performance, but it is not significant. This is due to the high ratio of re-exports of intermediate goods despite Korea being an export-oriented country. In Japan, the undervaluation of the exchange rate has a negative impact on economic performance.

  • Effect of misalignment on the performance was evaluated for the development of time-of-flight(TOF)-PET detector. A pair of TOF-PET detector consists of Lutetium-yttrium oxyorthosilicate(LYSO) scintillation crystal with a volume of 3 mm × 3 mm × 20 mm and Geiger-mode avalanche photodiodes(GAPD) photo-sensor with a active area of 3.07 mm × 3.07 mm. Analog output signals from TOF-PET detector were sent to the pre-amplifier and then fed into the gain adjust circuit for achievement of gain homogeneity for each detector. The amplified signals were recorded and digitized by data acquisition system based on oscilloscope. The effect of the detector misalignment between LYSO and GAPD was examined for four different alignment offsets of 0.0 mm, 0.5 mm, 1.0 mm and 1.5 mm for a pair of TOF-PET detector. The photopeak position decreased from ~400 mV to ~250 mV with increasing detector misalignment. the energy resolution and time resolution were degraded from 11.6% to 16.2%, and from 477 ps to 632 ps, respectively. This study demonstrated that PET detector performance was degraded considerably depending on the detector misalignment, which would be a critical issue for the development of TOF-PET detector.
