  • This paper proposes an effective hardware scheme for thinning stage processing of a fingerprint identification algorithm based on minutiae with 40% cycle occupation of 32-bit RISC microprocessor. The thinning step is needed to be processed by hardware block, because it is performed repeatedly by processing the same operation using an image window masking method. It can reduce the burden of the system and improve speed. The hardware is implemented by HDL and simulated. The result is compared with a conventional one.

  • Lueco-crystal violet(LCV) is a very effective reagent used to enhance bloodstain. However, when the LCV is treated to the bloody fingerprint, the bubbling occurs, so that the minutiae and features of the fingerprint can be damaged. In this study, we studied a method to reduce the bubbling of LCV. As a result, the most effective method for reduction bubbling and enhancement bloodstain was to treat ethanol-based aminotriazole(AT) solution before LCV treatment.

  • Importance of security system to prevent recently increased financial security accident is increasing. Biometric system between the security systems is focused. Fingerprint recognition has many useful aspects such as security, reliability and portability. In this treatise, fingerprint recognition technique is realized by using artificial neural network. Artificial Neural Network(ANN) is a mathematics learning model that makes specific patterns that a program can recognize to show a nerve network's characteristic on a computer. Input fingerprint images have a preprocessing process such as equalization, binarization and thinning. We extract minutiae feature in the images and program can recognize a fingerprint through ANN.

  • Hologram technology has been actively developed in terms of generation, transmission, and reproduction of 3D objects, but it is currently in a state of rest because of various limitations. Beyond VR and AR, the pseudo-hologram market is growing at an intermediate stage to meet the needs of new technologies. The key to the technology of hologram is to generate vast 3 dimensional data in the form of a point cloud, transmit the vast amount of data through the communication network in real time, and reproduce it like the original at the destination. In this paper, we propose a method to transmit massive 3 - D data in real - time and transmit the minutiae points of 3 - dimensional object information to reproduce the object as similar to original.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method to assess fingerprint image quality. In the proposed method, analysis of local variance of image's gray values, local orientation, minutiae density, size and position is applied. Especially by using position information of inputted fingerprint images, partial fingerprint images are filtered and recognition performance is improved. In the experimental results, quality threshold value for improving performance can be decided by analysis of correlation between image quality and recognition rate.

  • Powder method is simple and very effective method for developing latent finger and palm print in crime scene. This technique has been actively studied to enhance effectiveness. In general, the evaluation for developing powder is mainly performed by the subjective opinion of researcher from comparison of the results obtained with existing and new one to develope finger and palm deposition. The purpose of this work is to present objective method of powder-treated latent fingerprint for evaluating method by developing efficiency. We indicated three evaluating methods of objective developing efficiency, which are measuring the number of minutiae in same sections on print, scattering level of developing reagent and contrast between developing reagent and background materials.

  • The purpose of this paper is the brief introduction of touchless fingerprint recognition and the assessment of interoperability between touchless and legacy rolled fingerprints for the wide use of touchless fingerprint recognition system. In order to assess the interoperability, the contrast and resolution of the touchless images are optimized firstly. And we perform the matching by using conventional minutiae-based matcher. Experimental results are promising that our touchless fingerprints have enough matching performance with equal error rate 7.9%. We can expect that our paper will make a significant contribution to the wide use of touchless fingerprint recognition and the increment of interoperability in the system integration between touchless-based and touch-based fingerprint systems.

  • Ford Madox Ford, the early twentieth-century writer most famous for his novel The Good Soldier, perceived his "business in life [as an] ... attempt to discover and to try to let you see where you stand." With this grand purpose in mind, Ford disregarded distinctions of genre in his prolific output of what we would consider novels, memoirs, literary criticism, travel writing, and history. Claiming that "the Novelist ... [is a] historian of his own time," Ford sought his own version of the "truth," a truth that was more faithful to his own subjective impressions than to verifiable "fact." Among these works that depict his age are a series of "memoirs" or "reminiscences," works published from the 1910s to the 1930s which carry out his Impressionistic purpose. What lies behind these memoirs is Ford′s view that his own individual history can be understood as his contemporary society′s collective history. This article explores Ford′s experimentation with boundaries of fact and fiction, and history and narrative, as he employs and expands the memoir form. In particular, 1 focus on two works, Memories and Impressions (1911) and It Was the Nightingale (1933), and Ford′s techniques in these memoirs, such as 1) the adoption of fictional personae from which to comment on his society at large and 2) the use of emblematic "parables" to encapsulate larger lessons of life within the minutiae of existence. Current theorists on the memoir form share interests in these questions of genre and of the social role of the memoir Nancy Miller, for instance, terms the memoir "the record of an experience in search of a community." This article engages these current discussions of the memoir genre by examining Ford′s early twentieth-century examples as innovative experiments that play with the boundaries between fiction and history, and personal impressions and collective truth.

  • Jain et al. proposed the hybrid matching method which was combined the minutia-based matching method and the filter-bank based matching method. And, their experimental results proved the hybrid matching method was more effective than each of them. However, this hybrid method cannot utilize each peculiar advantage of two methods. The reason is that it gets the matching score by simply summing up each weighted matching score after executing two methods individually. In this paper, we propose new hybrid matching method. It mixes two matching methods during the feature extraction process. This new hybrid method has lower ERR than the filter-bank based method and higher ERR than the minutia-based method. So, we propose the adaptive hybrid scoring method, which selects the matching score in order to preserve the characteristics of two matching methods. Using this method, we can get lower ERR than the hybrid matcher by Jain et al. Experimental results indicate that the proposed methods can improve the matching performance up to about 1% in ERR.

  • Fingerprint-based verification system has been used for a very long time. Because of their well-known uniqueness and immutability, fingerprint is one of the most widely used biometric features. However, fingerprint identification system has such a critical weakness that the performance of verification is reduced drastically for a poor input fingerprint. In this paper, an image enhancement algorithm using enhanced direction and enhanced binary and aiming image is used to mitigate the problem in the preprocessing. The goal of image enhancement is to estimate the quality of input fingerprint image and to improve the clarity of ridge and valley structures of input fingerprint image. Also, a ridge orientation extraction method using index table is proposed to improve the speed of verification. It is shown by the experiments that proposed fingerprint verification system improves the minutiae extraction accuracy and performance of verification.
