Construction of the Electrochemical Impedance Measurement System Using Fourier Transform (푸리에 변환을 이용한 전기화학적 임피던스 측정 시스템 제작)

  • Electrochemical impedance measurement system using Fourier transform was constructed in the range of the frequencies up to 100 kHz. This system consists of pseudo-random noise generator, specially designed potentiostat, fast data acquisition system, system controller, and computer interface. The performance of the constructed system was found to be almost same as the commercially available system using lock-in amplifier. Measuring time was significantly reduced because the minimum time for the measurement depended on one cycle of the lowest frequency used. It would be possible to study time-varying electrochemical impedance systems such as the initial stages of corrosion processes using this system.

Suggestion of Long-term Life Time Test for PV Module in Highly Stressed Conditions (가혹조건에서의 태양전지모듈 내구성 평가를 통한 최적의 시험조건 제안)

  • To guarantee life time more than 20 years for manufacturer without stopping photovoltaic(PV) system, it is really important to test the module in realistic time and condition compared to outside weather. In here, we tested PV modules in highly stressed condition compared to IEC standards. In IEC 61215 and IEC 61646 standards, damp-heat, thermal cycle(TC200) and mechanical test are main test items for evaluating long-term durability of PV module in controlled temperature and humidity condition. So in this paper, we have lengthened the test time for TC200 and damp-heat test and increased the loading stress on surface of module. Through this test, we can get some clue of proper the method for measuring realistic life cycle of PV modules and suggested the minimum time for PV test method. Detection of Elastic Waves Using Stabilized Michelson Interferometer (광로차 보상회로가 부착된 마이켈슨 간섭계에 의한 탄성파 신호검출)

  • The stabilized Michelson interferometer was developed in order to measure micro dynamic displacement at the surface of solids due to elastic wave propagation. The stabilizer was designed to compensate light path disturbances using a reference mirror driven by piezoelectric actuator. Using stabilizer, the effect of external vibration was reduced and the quadrature condition was satisifed. As the results, the output of photodetector had maximum sensitivity and linearity. The minimum detectable displacement was 0.3nm at the band width of 10 MHz. The epicentral displacements due to the glass capillary breaks and the steel ball drop impact were measured using the developed interferometer and the results were compared with the calculated one.

  • We investigated a resistive superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) fabricated using YBCO thin films on 2-inch diameter sapphire substrates. Nearly identical SFCL units were prepared and tested. The units were connected in series and parallel to increase the current and voltage ratings. A serial connection of the units showed significantly unbalanced power dissipation between the units. This imbalance was removed by introducing a shunt resistor to the firstly quenched unit. Parallel connection of the units increased the current rating. An SFCL module of 4 units in parallel, each of which has minimum quench current 25 Ap, was produced and successfully tested at a 220 V circuit. From the resistance increase, we estimated that the film temperature increases to 200 K in 5 msec, and 300 K in 120 msec. Successive quenches revealed that this system is stable without degradation in the current limiting capability under such thermal shocks as quenches at 220 V.

Optimized LCL filter Design Method of Utility Interactive Inverter (계통연계형 인버터의 LCL필터 최적 설계기법)

  • The conventional LCL filter design method of the utility interactive inverter considers only harmonics attenuation of the current injected to the grid. However, in case of utility-interactive inverter with critical load the voltage quality of the critical load should also be considered for LCL filter design. Also, considering cost and volume of LCL filters. it is important to have minimum values of inductance and capacitance as far as the harmonic standards are satisfied. In this paper a LCL filter design method is proposed to satisfy not only the harmonic standards of the grid current during the grid-connected mode but the voltage quality of the critical load during grid-connected mode and stand-alone mode. With the proposed method optimized values of LCL filters could be obtained by applying weighting factor to voltage ripple across the critical load, inductor volume, amount of reactive current and system bandwidth.

Comparison of Wind Pressure Coefficient and Wind Load Standard for Cladding in a Retractable Dome Roof by Wind Tunnel Test (풍동 실험을 통한 개폐식 돔 지붕의 외장재용 풍압 계수와 풍하중 기준 비교)

  • The biggest impact on the cladding design of buildings is wind loads. Wind tunnel tests were conducted to examine the applicability of current wind load standards about membrane retractable roof spatial structure. A dome model with a circular shape that is retractable to the center of the dome was made (Opening ratio = 0, 10, 30, 50). In addition, height adjustable turntables were made and tested with five patterns with H/D = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5. The maximum wind pressure coefficient and the minimum wind pressure coefficient for the cladding were analyzed and the experimental wind pressure coefficient were compared with the current wind load standards, KBC2016 and AIJ-RLB(2015). The experimental value and the reference value of the enclosed roof were very similar and showed possibility of application, but opened roof case was found that the reference value was underestimated.

A Study on the Relationship between Dwelling Environment and Household Density in Multi-Family Housing Development (공동주택단지 건설에 있어서 주거환경과 가구밀도에 관한 연구 -택지개발사업지구를 중심으로-)

  • To accomodate increasing housing shortage in many cities, Korean Government has implemented various residental land development projects to provide more land for new housing construction. Most of the residential areas developed by these projects were used for multi-family housing units. Under this process, the size and location of the neighborhood service facilities in the development area were regulated by uniform standards. For this reason, the neighborhood service facilities were not able to be provided according to the household density but provided in minimum status required by these standards. Based on these considerations, this study aimed to evaluated residential land development project conducted by pubilc authority, one of the residential land development projects in Korea. Results of the case studies confirmed findings from literature review and proposed that existing regulations applied to these projects need to be amended not only to accomodata unique situation of each development area but also to enhance level of the dwelling environment. As ways to resolve these problems, this study suggests followings: (1) more flexible operation of the regulations, (2) inclusion of the socio-economic characteristics of the perspective resident in planning process, and (3) introduction of design techniques in the project. Finally, this study proposed future study directions in relation to this issue.

Prospect on IMO's Performance Standards for Protective Coatings (PSPC) Regulation for Ship's Water Ballast Tanks

  • In 2006, as a means to minimize early corrosion failure of ships, thus to enhance marine safety, International Maritime Organization (IMO), proposed a mandatory regulation for Performance Standards for the Protective Coatings (PSPC) for ballast tanks of newly built ships to satisfy 15 years of target useful life. In this regulation, several unprecedented strict rules are adopted as minimum, mandatory requirements for protective coatings of ship's water ballast tanks, and all type of ships sailing international sea are subjected to this regulation which is to be effective as early as June of 2008. The PSPC addresses many technical issues in the areas of surface pretreatment (primary and secondary), coating materials, coating application procedure and inspection as well as necessary documentation. The PSPC rules are new and unproven concepts, which calls for rigorous incorporation of reality-based evidences currently available, since there are no practical experiences in terms of the validity of the PSPC rules. There has been much controversy surrounding these regulations and considerable effort has been made by both shipyards and ship owners alike to achieve a performance standard for ballast tank coatings, which is acceptable to all. In this paper, the background and overview of the PSPC rules are given, and several issues in the PSPC are reviewed as a base to achieve robustness of the proposed PSPC, which will serve as a means to minimize early corrosion and to ensure 15 year target useful life of ships.

A STUDY ON THE MATERIAL PROPERTIES OF VARIOUS COMPOSITE RESINS FOR CORE BUILD-UP (수종 코어용 복합레진 수복재의 물성에 관한 연구)

  • The purposes of this study were to estimate the material properties of the recently developed domestic composite resins for core filling material (Chemical, Dual A, Dual B;Vericom, Korea) and to compare them with other marketed foreign products (CorePaste, Den-Mat, USA;Ti-Core, Essential Dental Systems, USA;Support. SCI-Pharm. USA). Six assessments were made:working time. setting time. depth of polymerization. flexural strength. bonding strength. and marginal leakage. All items were compared to ISO standards. All domestic products satisfied the minimum requirements from ISO standards (working time:above 90 seconds. setting time:within 5 minutes). and showed significantly higher flexural strength than Core Paste. Dual A and B could. especially. reduce the setting time to 60 seconds when cured with $600mW/cm^2$ light intensity. All experimental materials showed 6 mm depth of polymerization. Bond strengths of Ti-Core and Dual B materials were significantly higher than the other materials. Furthermore. three domestic products and Ti-Core could reduce the microleakage effectively.

Measurement Method of Sensitivity for Hydrogen Embrittlement of High Strength Bolts (고강도 볼트의 수소취성에 대한 민감도 측정방법)

  • To measure the sensitivity of the hydrogen embrittlement from plated high strength bolts (SWCH18A, F11T), the bolt was stressed by a corresponding to the amount of tensile strain of 5% and 20%, and then the bolt developed a crack on the surface. The bolt that didn't have concentrated hydrogen, even though it was stressed by a corresponding the amount of tensile strain of 5% and 20%, no crack developed. However, the bolt that had concentrated hydrogen, developed cracks from the thread crest to the root. It is impossible to measure the hydrogen amount from plated high strength bolts using Hydrogen-Determinator, because of the limitation of the minimum sample size (about 1g as a mass or $5{\times}5{\times}5 mm^3$ as a volume). Therefore, the sensitivity of hydrogen embrittlement can be measured by observing the presence of cracks on the surface of plated high strength bolts which are stressed by a corresponding to the amount of tensile strain of 5% and 20%.
