In this paper, interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) design for sensorless drive, considering magnetic neutral point shift according to magnetic saturation, has been proposed. Sensorless control was divided into a method based on inductance and a method based on back induced voltage. Because induced voltage is very small at zero or low speed, error in rotor initial position estimation may occur. Using the ratio of saliency addresses this problem. When using high-frequency injections at low speed, the rotor's initial position is estimated at the smallest portion of the inductance. IPMSM has the minimum inductance at the d-axis. However, if magnetic saturation leads to magnetic neutral point variation, following the load current change, there is a change in the minimum point of inductance. In this case, it can lead to failure of initial rotor position estimation. As a result, it is essential that the blocking design has an inductance minimum point shift. As such, in this study, an IPMSM design method, by blocking magnetic neutral point change, has been proposed. After determining the inductance profile based on the finite element analysis (FEA), the results of proposed method were verified.
For the purpose of designing an intrinsic safety Flyback converter with minimal output voltage ripple based on a specified output current, this paper first classified the energy transmission modes of the system into three sorts, namely, the Complete Inductor Supply Mode-CCM (CISM-CCM), the Incomplete Inductor Supply Mode-CCM (IISM-CCM) and the Incomplete Inductor Supply Mode-DCM (IISM-DCM). Then, the critical secondary self-inductance assorting the three modes are deduced and expressions of the output voltage ripples (OVR) are presented. For a Flyback converter with constant loads and switching frequency, it is shown that the output voltage ripple in the CISM-CCM is the smallest and that it has no relationship with the secondary self-inductance. Otherwise, the OVR of the other two modes are bigger than the previously mentioned one. It is concluded that the critical inductance between the CISM-CCM and the IISM-CCM is the minimal secondary self-inductance to ensure the smallest output voltage ripple. At last, a design method to guarantee the minimum OVR within the scales of the input voltage and load are analyzed, and the minimum secondary self-inductance is proposed to minimize the OVR. Simulations and experiments are given to verify the results.
In this paper, a new 'impedance sensing' method is described. This method overcomes the shortcomings of the impedance sensing method. According to the new method, sensing voltage pulse is applied to the idle phase in the minimum inductance region and the beginning of the increasing inductance region to detect rotor position. The negative torque produced by the sensing voltage pulse can be neglected in the minimum inductance region and the efficiency of SRM is improved. In the minimum inductance region the back electromotive force (EMF) can be neglected. And in the increasing inductance region the EMF opposes the rise of current in the phase, so the position estimation scheme is reliable. Therefore the new 'impedance sensing' method is sufficiently precise even under the high back EMF effect. The adjustment of turn-on angle and turn-off angle is also easy to be realized. The technique is very useful in applications where cost or size is primary concerns, such as electric bicycle drives. Experimental results are presented to verify the proposed method.
The demand for protection of power electronic application has during the last couple of vears increased regarding the high-power IGBT modules. Even with an active protection, a high power IGBT still has a risk of exhibiting a violent rupture in the case of a fault if IGBT Fuses do not protect it. By introducing fuses into the circuit this will increase the circuit inductance and slight inductance over-voltage during the turn-off of the diode and the IGBT. It is therefore vital when using fuses that the added inductance is kept at a minimum. This paper discuss three issues regarding the IGBT Fuse protection of adding inductance of existing High-speed and new Typower Fuse protection. First, the problem of adding inductance of exiting High-speed and new Typower Fuse DC-link circuit is treated, second a short discussion of protection of the IGBT module is done, and finally, the impect of the high frwquency loading on the currying capability of the fuses is presented.

This paper investigates the operational modes of buck dc-dc converters and their energy transmission methods. The operational modes of such converters are classified in two types, discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) and continuous conduction mode (CCM). In this paper, the critical inductance relation of DCM and CCM is determined. The equations of the output voltage ripple (OVR) for each mode are obtained for a specific input voltage and load resistance range. The maximum output voltage ripple (MOVR) is also obtained for each mode. The filter size is decreased and the minimum required inductance value is calculated to guarantee the minimization of the MOVR. The experimental and simulation results in PSCAD/EMTDC prove the correctness of the presented theoretical concepts.
The leakage inductance of the High frequency Transformer(HFT) in the flyback topology can be used an inductor of the Low Pass Filter(LPF) to reduce ripple and ripple noise in the output voltage. But, the values of leakage inductance and magnetizing inductance in the HFT are within $\pm20[{\%}]$). And the operating temperature of the HFT increased by the leakage inductance. Therefore, the leakage inductance of the HFT in the flyback topology has minimum and the LPF has non-polarity ceramic capacitor in the output stage. In this paper, the LPF in the flyback topoBogy takes PCB capacitor using double layer of PCB without non-polarity ceramic capacitor. Its experimental results show the reduced ripple noise and the reduced ripple in the output stage.
This paper investigates the design of multi-winding coupled inductor for minimum inductor current ripple. Based on the general circuit model of coupled inductor together with the operating principles of dc-dc converter, the relationship between the ripple size of inductor current and the coupling factor is derived under the different duty ratio. The optimal coupling factor of n-phase multi-winding coupled inductor which corresponds to a minimum inductor ripple current becomes -(1/n-1), i.e. a complete inverse coupling without leakage inductance, as the duty ratio of steady-state operating point approaches 1/n, 2/n, ${\cdots}$ or (n-1)/n. In an opposite manner, the optimal coupling factor value of zero, i.e. zero mutual inductance, is required when the duty ratio of steady-state operating point approaches either zero or one. Therefore, coupled inductors having optimal coupling factor can minimize the ripple current of inductor and inductor size.
This paper investigates the design of coupled inductor for minimum inductor current ripple in rapid traction battery charger systems. Based on the general circuit model of coupled inductor together with the operating principles of dc-dc converter, the relationship between the ripple size of inductor current and the coupling factor is derived under the different duty ratio. The optimal coupling factor which corresponds to a minimum inductor ripple current becomes -0.5, i.e. a complete inverse coupling without leakage inductance, as the steady-state duty ratio operating point approaches 1/3 or 2/3. In an opposite manner, the optimal coupling factor value of zero, i.e. zero mutual inductance, is required when the steady-state duty ratio operating point approaches either zero or one. Coupled inductors having optimal coupling factor can minimize the ripple current of inductor and battery current resulting in a reliable and efficient operation of battery chargers.
This paper describes the minimum ignition limits for propane-air 5.25 Vol.% mixture gases in low voltage inductive circiuts. The improved effects on the ignition limit are studied by parallel safety components(resistors) for propane-air 5.25 Vol.% mixture gas in low voltage inductive circuits. The experimental devices used in this test are the IEC type spark ignition test apparatus. The minimum ignition limits are controlled by the values of current in inductive circuit. Energy supplied from electric source is first accumulated at the inductance, it's extra energy is working as ignition source of the explosive gas. The improved effects on the ignition limit are respectively obtained as the maximum rising rate of 330% by composing parallel circuits between inductance and resistor as compared with disconnecting inductance with the safety components. The more values of inductance increase the higher improved effects of ignition limit rise. The less values of resistor the higher improved effects of ignition limit rise. It is considered that the result can be used for not only data for researches and development of intrinsically safe explosion-proof machines which are applied equipment and detectors used in dangerous areas but also for datum for its equipment tests.
