  • Neural network minimization problems are often conditioned and in this contribution way to handle this will be discussed. It is shown that a better conditioned minimization problem can be obtained if the problem is separated with respect to the linear parameters. This will increase the convergence speed of the minimization. One of the most powerful uses of neural networks is in function approximation(curve fitting)[1]. A main characteristic of this solution is that function (f) to be approximated is given not explicitly but implicitly through a set of input-output pairs, named as training set, that can be easily obtained from calibration data of the measurement system. In this context, the usage of Neural Network(NN) techniques for modeling the systems behavior can provide lower interpolation errors when compared with classical methods like polynomial interpolation. This paper solve of single-variable minimization using neural network.

  • PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to present a linear programing optimization model for the design of lane-based lane-uses and signal timings for an isolated intersection. METHODS: For the optimization model, a set of constraints for lane-uses and signal settings are identified to ensure feasibility and safety of traffic flow. Three types of objective functions are introduced for optimizing lane-uses and signal operation, including 1) flow ratio minimization of a dual-ring signal control system, 2) cycle length minimization, and 3) capacity maximization. RESULTS : The three types of model were evaluated in terms of minimizing delay time. From the experimental results, the flow ratio minimization model proved to be more effective in reducing delay time than cycle length minimization and capacity maximization models and provided reasonable cycle lengths located between those of other two models. CONCLUSIONS : It was concluded that the flow ratio minimization objective function is the proper one to implement for lane-uses and signal settings optimization to reduce delay time for signalized intersections.

  • Interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) adjustable speed drives offer significant advantages over induction motor drives in a wide variety of industrial applications such as high power density, high efficiency, improved dynamic performance and reliability. This paper proposes on-line efficiency optimization of IPMSM drive using fuzzy logic control(FLC) and the loss minimization method. In order to optimize the efficiency the loss minimization algorithm is developed based on motor model and operating condition. The d-axis armature current is utilized to minimize the losses of the IPMSM in a closed loop vector control environment. The controllable electrical loss which consists of the copper loss and the iron loss can be minimized by the optimal control of the armature current. The minimization of loss is possible to realize efficiency optimization control for the proposed IPMSM. The optimal current can be decided according to the operating speed and the load conditions. The proposed control algorithm is applied to IPMSM drive system and the operating characteristics controlled by the loss minimization method and FLC control are examined in detail.

  • Recently to develope an automobile with better properties, much researches and investments are executed in many countries. In this paper, it is intended to minimize the weight of an engine block without changing the dynamic characteristics. The weight minimization is executed by the sensitivity of the natural frequency of the engine block. To decrease the engine weight, much less thickness than the original thickness of the engine is selected to initial value and the structure modification is performed to recover the dynamic characteristics of the engine. Here, the original thickness of the engine is 8mm and the initial thickness is selected to 5mm, 6mm and the number if the natural frequencies fitted are 2, 6, 7, respectively. As the results, it is found that; (1) the weight of each case could be reduced without changing the objective natural frequencies. Specially, in the case of fitting 2 natural frequencies with 5mm initial thickness the weight could be reduced to 4.21kg(23.3% for engine weight). (2) according to the driving frequency range of engine, the weight minimization could be performed choicely, (3) improving a vibration characteristics of a orignal structure, the weight minimization could be performed.

  • Computer-aided design of VLSI circuits is usually carried out in three synthesis steps; high-level synthesis, logic synthesis and layout synthesis. Each synthesis step is further kroken into a few optimization problems. In this paper we study the area minimization problem in floorplanning(also known as the floorplan sizing problem). We propose the area minimization algorithms for general floorplans.

  • The problem of the state-minimization for the nonde-terministic finite Rabin-Scott's automata is considered. A new algo-rithm for this problem is obtained. The obtained algorithm has the exponential effectiveness like the earlier-known algorithms for this problem. But each of previous algo-rithms amounts to the search of minimum generative system for local reaction of equal automaton of canonical form and unlike them we use in this paper two special function marking states of the given automaton.

  • A Conjugate Gradient (CG) algorithm for unconstrained minimization is proposed which is invariant to a nonlinear scaling of a strictly convex quadratic function and which generates mutually conjugate directions for extended quadratic functions. It is derived for inexact line searches and is designed for the minimization of general nonlinear functions. It compares favorably in numerical tests with the original Dixon algorithm on which the new algorithm is based.

  • In this paper we consider non-deterministic finite Rabin-Scott’s automata. We use a special structure to descibe all the possible edges of non-determinstic finite automaton defining the given regular language. Such structure can be used for solving various problems of finite automata theory. One of these problems is edge-minimization of non-deterministic automata. As we have not touched this problem before, we obtain here two versions of the algorithm for solving this problem to continue previous series of articles.

  • This paper investigates the structural analysis and design of mechanical heart valve through the numerical analysis methodology. In a numerical analysis methodology application to the thickness minimization structural design of mechanical heart valve, structural analysis is performed for the blood flow through a bileaflet mechanical heart valve. The structural static analysis is carried out to confirm the thickness minimization structural condition (minimum thickness shape of leaflet).
