Thin film of $TiO_2$ was obtained by the sol-gel dip method on the brosilicate glass substrate. It was found that the film was about $1.5{\mu}m$ thick as obtained by 4 successive coatings and annealed at varied temperatures ranged from $300^{\circ}C$ to $1100^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs. The substrate used was having the surface area of $100mm^2$. Increasing the annealing temperature caused to change in mineralogical phase of titanium oxide i.e., amorphous, crystalline antase to rutile phases. The particle size of the titanium oxide film were ranged from $0.1{\sim}0.54{\mu}m$ estimated by the SEM analysis. The material showed an absorbance maximum at the wavelength 390nm obtained by UV-visible spectrophotometer. These results therefore, indicated that the $TiO_2$ film obtained relatively at low annealing temperature consisted predominantly with anatase phase; possessed higher photocatalytic behavior i.e., 2.4 times higher than that of only UV lamp irradiation.
This study was carried out to understand the properties of the E.A.F. steel-making dusts for stabilization processing. The properties are related to mincral composition, shape, particle size, magnetism, density, porosity and leaching characteristic. the dust particles, the size of which ranges from sub-micron to tens-micron, were mainly spherical like balls that were agglomerated each other: the large particles were generally Fe-rich and the small particles were spherical like balls that were agglomerated each other: the large particles were franklinite (ZnFe$_{2}O_{4}$), magnetite (Fe$_{3}O_{4}$) and zincite (ZnO) by XRD analysis. When the dusts were sieved by a wet process, the particle fraction over 200 mesh had 1.5 wt.% with magnetite and quartz. The particles in the size range of 200-500 mesh consisted of magnetite, franklinite. The 82 wt.% of the steel-making dusts were occupied by the particles finer than 500 mesh and contained franklinite and zincite as main mineralogical compositions. When the dusts of around 78% porosity compressed under the load of approximately 1 KPa, the porosity decreased to 68% and to 535 under around 13 KPa. When the E.A.F. dusts were leached according to the Korea standard leaching procedure on the waster, the heavy metals exceeding the leaching criteria were cadmium, lead and mercury.
This report deals with the sedimentological study of the littoral sand of beaches in the Busan area. The purpose of this report is to know the grain size, mineralogical composition, heavy mineral and clay mineral of the beach sands, and gravity measurements of the Nagdong River Deltas. 1) As a whole, the littoral sand of the beaches are composed of uniformly medium grained, moderately sorted and nearly symmetrical. The barrier sand of the Nagdong Estuary is composed of fine grained, well sorted and nearly symmetrical. 2) The littoral sand of the beaches is transported by saltation and rolling. The barrier sand of the Nagdong Estuary is transported by suspension and saltation. 3) In the littoral sand of the beaches, the ratio of feldspar to quartz is 1 :2.31 and in the barrier sand of the Nagdong Estuary 1:1.40. 4) The content of heavy mineral of samples ranges from 0.54 to 3.87 %. The principal heavy minerals are hornblende, pyroxene, epidote, garnet, leucoxene, zircon, apatite, magnetite, hematite and ilmenite with minor accessories of rutile and olivine. 5) The x-ray diffraction analysis of the clay mineral informs the existence of quartz, feldspar, kaolinite and montmorillonite. The montmorillonite is considered to have been derived from the alteration of acidic volcanic rocks. 6) To determine the depositional structure of the Nagdong Estuary, Gravity measurements were made. Free air anomaly ranges from 14.5 mgal to 33.5 mgal and Bouguer anomaly ranges from 14.3 to 23.5 mgal and both are closely related to the topography. According to the interpreted layer structure, the upper layer composing sand, silt and clay, the intermediate layer composing sand with gravel, the lower layer composing weathered and soft rock, and bed rock composing hornfels or andesite. 7) The depositional environments of the study, the littoral area is dominated by the marine environment and the Nagdong Estuary by the mixed environment.
The purpose of this research is to investigate the dispersion pattern of gold during skarnization and genesis of gold mineralization in the Sangdong skarn deposits. The Sangdong scheelite orebodies are embedded in the Cambrian Pungchon Limestone and limestone interbedded in the Myobong Slate of the Cambrian age. The tungsten deposits are classified as the Hangingwall Orebody, the Main Orebody and the Footwall Orebody as their stratigraphic locations. Recently, the Sangdong granite of the Cretaceous age (85 Ma) were found by underground exploratory drillings below the orebodies. In geochemisty, the W, Mo, Bi and F concentrations in the granite are significantly higher than those in the Cretaceous granitoids in southern Korea. Highest gold contents are associated with quartz-hornblende skarn in the Main Orebody and pyroxene-hornblende skarn in the Hangingwall Orebody. Also Au contents are closely related to Bi contents. This could be inferred that Au skarns formed from solutions under reduced environment at a temperature of $270^{\circ}C$. According to the multiple regression analysis, the variation of Au contents in the Main Orebody can be explained (87.5%) by Ag, As, Bi, Sb, Pb, Cu. Judging from the mineralogical, chemical and isotope studies, the genetic model of the deposits can be suggested as follows. The primitive Sangdong magma was enriched in W, Mo, Au, Bi and volatiles (metal-carriers such as $H_2O$, $CO_2$ and F). During the upward movement of hydrothermal ore solution, the temperature was decreased, and W deposits were formed at limestone (in the Myobong Slate and Pungchon Limestone). In addition, meteoric water influx gave rise to the retrogressive alterations and maximum solubility of gold, and consequently higher grade of Au mineralization was deposited.

In this study, the identification and distribution for rock types of the South Gate Wall of Myeoncheoneupseong Town Wall in Dangjin was investigated, and the homogeneity analysis of rock properties in the wall between the surrounding out crops estimated by examining the possible provenances. The Town Wall consists of variable rock types about 15 kinds. Granitic rocks (61.0%), quartzite (21.0%) and quartz feldspar porphyry (8.7%) accounted over 90% of total survey section. These rock properties are very similar to surrounding rocks of the Town Wall on the basis of occurrences, magnetic susceptibility, petrography, mineralogical and goechemical characteristics. Thus, it is probable that the rock properties of the Town Wall were supplied from the Town Wall around about 8km within at Seongsangri, Yangyuri, Seongbukri, Galsanri and Daedeokdong area. And supplied rock properties in the construction process, easy procurement rather than rock type was most likely seems to be considered.

Onggi, described as a 'breathing' type of pottery' has significantly influenced the traditional food culture of Korea. It is known that Onggi is an optimal type of storage for fermented foods such as soy sauce, salted seafood, and Kimchi, as air or liquid can penetrate through the body of this material. These foods gain flavor due to the breeding of aerobic bacteria at the beginning of the fermentation process. In this study, Onggi materials from five regions, Gangjin, Yeoju, Ulsan, Yesan, and Jeju, were collected and analyzed to determine their chemical and physical properties before and after sintering. The differences in the raw materials of other mining regions are examined in terms of their chemical and mineralogical compositions, specific surface area, particle size, and particle distribution. Among them, the Gangjin raw material has the greatest mean particle size of $92.29{\mu}m$, as well as the widest particle size distribution. Differences in the levels of $SiO_2$ and $Fe_2O_3$ are shown among Onggi raw materials. However, the crystalline phases formed after sintering are identical, except for the Jeju samples. At all sintering temperatures tested here, Gangjin Onggi showed the greatest porosity, leading to complete air permeation through the body within 90 minutes. These results taken together indicate that air permeation is strongly related to the pore structures in the Onggi body. This is assumed to affect the fermentation behavior.
The assemblage epidote and grandite garnet occurs in low-to medium-grade metabasites and calc schists of various geotectonic settings and in hydrothermally altered calcareous rocks in skarn deposits. The compositions of sixteen epidote-garnet paris have been analysed by means of electron microprobe. Al-Fe partitioning between coexisting grandite garnet and epidote is considered and measured at the grain boundaries on the supposition that the surface equilibrium was maintained in the following exchange reaction: 2$Ca_2Al_3Si_3O_12$(OH)+$Ca_3Fe_2Si_3O_12$=2$Ca_2A_l2FeSi_3O_12$(OH)+$Ca_3Al_2Si_3O_12$ Partition coefficients confirms the differences in thermal conditions between low-grade and medium-grade metamorphic rocks. $K_D$ values ($X_{$CO_2$}$=($Fe^{+3}$/Al)$^{Ep}$/($Fe^{+3}$/Al)$^{Gr}$, where Fe=$Fe^{+3}$) from greenschist facies rocks of the estimated metamorphic temperatures, 330~$390^{\circ}C$, range approximately between 0.02 and 0.17. Epidote-amphibolite facies rocks and calcareous skarns of the estimated temperatures, 400~$550^{\circ}C$, have $K_D$ values between 0.24 and 0.37. $K_D$ values from the rocks of the temperatures, 640~$700^{\circ}C$, range nearly between 0.58 and 0.75. The diagrams in Figs. 2 and 3 can serve as a mineralogic thermometer for relatively shallow rocks, assuming that the pressure dependence of partition coefficients for the iron-exchange reaction in the two minerals can be neglected.
Illite/smectite (I/S) in the Beaufort-Mackenzie Basin, Arctic Canada has been scrutinized on the basis of mineralogical analysis of 215 core and drill-cutting samples from 22 exploratory wells onshore and offshore. I/S in the Beaufort-Mackenzie Basin includes the following four types: random, a mixture of random and ordered, R1-ordered, and R>1-ordered I/S. A mixture of random and ordered I/S occurs in the transitional interval between random and R>1-ordered I/S, and may represent a metastable state in the ordering reaction. A widespread occurrence of the mixture in natural environments suggests that the ordering reaction may be a slow process that results in co-existence of reactants and products. K-saturation experiments show that layer charges of expandable layers in I/S are variable. High-charge expandable layers transform into illite-like layers upon simple K-saturation. K-saturation alters the composition and/or the degree of ordering in I/S, suggesting that illitization in nature can be transformational.
This study was conducted to develop n convenient and efficient granular type absorbent with high CEC from powdery zeolite, which is a waste produced while crushing the natural zeolite of Korea to get a particular particle size. The change of mineralogical characteristics during hydrothermal alternation of natural zeolite to Na-P zeolite in alkaline solution at various reaction times was determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and total elemental analysis. The columnar aggregate of Na-P Zeolite was produced by calcinating the natural zeolite-charcoal extrudates of about 3 mm diameter. In 24 hours reaction, clinoptillonite, mordenite and feldspar in natural zeolite were disappeared by 3 N NaOH treatment, while Na-P Zeolite with spherical granular structure was newly detected by XRD. As increasing reaction time, Si/Al ratio in remaining solution was deceased. The CEC of the synthesized material increased more than 2 times compared with that of natural zeolite, although the diameter of Na-P zeolite were rather increased.
Mineralogical analysis with petrographic microscope and XRD was carried out to verify manufacturing technique of the tiles(9 samples) and kiln wall materials(5 samples) from the Anchang-ri history site in Wonju county. One of the results we found is such that during the tile manufacturing process fine tile fragments or wall materials might be added instead of chamottes to maintain tile pattern. Abandoned tiles or wall materials were recycled repeatedly, which may be supported by the recycled chamottes that made from iron-rich fine aggregates or disposed kiln wall materials in many samples analyzed. The tiles and wall materials are divided into 3 types, including low temperature type (below $800^{\circ}C$), intermediate temperature type ($800-930^{\circ}C$) and high temperature type ($930-1470^{\circ}C$) as a function of firing temperature which deduced by mineral assemblages identified under petrographic microscope and by XRD composition. Both Kiln A8 of Choseon Dynasty and wall material AW5 were burned at the highest temperature among the all analyzed samples.
