3-dimensional modeling methods have been used in the every step of resource development; Exploration, reserve estimation, mine feasibility study, mine design and mine production. This report shows seven cases for which 3-dimensional modeling is used in resource development. Six projects deal with resource esimation, mine feasibility study and production. And another deals with mine rehabilitation. These cases show that 3-dimensional modeling method is beneficial to understand the real state of ore deposit and complex underground structures. Moreover, 3-dimensional modeling is the most efficient method for mine planning and management in the every step of resource development.

The domestic mine development community the countermeasure establishment is insufficient about ground sinkage, not only the mine which is a in line is partial from the mine of the most which has become the rest mine and abandoned mine or the index sinkage occurs. The ground sinkage which occurs from the abandoned mine area most after operation is stopped, a long time passes and accurately predicts an occurrence location and a time with the residual sinkage which occurs, is difficult. Underground goaf of the abandoned mine and the closed shaft When considering the potentiality which causes the instability of ground, is a possibility of reaching a damage in the ground infrastructure or life. The underground shaft which is formed specially with mine development and goaf operates with the obstacle factor in the development project of the mine area, the ground sinkage which is caused by with sinkage, operates with the large safety accident occurrence factor where the important infrastructure of the railroad, road, residential area etc. is damaged. Therefore, In this paper, the goaf cave of the abandoned mine area, for the displacement behavior according to the filling factor of the material is to analyze the numerical analysis.

The vehicle-mounted mine detection system with large detection sensor modules can search wide areas with a fast detection speed. To mount the heavy mine detectors on a manned or unmanned vehicle, it is necessary to design the detector driving mechanism and control system based on the considerations driven from the characteristic analysis and the operation requirements of the detection system. Furthermore, while operating the mine detector mounted on a mobile vehicle, it is significant to keep the height from the ground to sensors within a certain distance in order to get a qualified detection performance. As the mine detection sensor, we used ground penetrating radar widely used to geotechnical exploration, mine detection and etc. In this paper, we introduce a driving mechanism through analyzing the characteristics of the vehicle-mounted mine detection system. We also suggest a method to automatically control the distance between the ground and GPR by utilizing the GPR output values, used to detect mines at the same time.

The mining-related damages due to the mining operations such as ground subsidence, tailing, Acid Mine Drainage, and soil contamination have a significant effect on our social and economical environment. So, for the effective prevention and reclamation works of the hazards in the mining area, the systematic management of mine information and mining-related damages is urgently needed. In this study, we estimated the possibilities of GIS-based system development for the mining area and related database. We classified the steps of building GIS as mine itself, mining-related damages, rehabilitation works and additional functions for estimating damages and analyzed the essential database and functions for each step. GIS will be helpful to estimate the mining-related damages and to carry out the reclamation works effectively.

It is necessary to develop systematic mine reclamation technology according to mid- and long-term road maps to effectively promote mine reclamation projects. Evaluating the main achievements of the mine reclamation technology according to the first and second-stage roadmaps revealed the necessity of sharing the R&D achievements. In this study, by reviewing the key issues of the third-stage roadmap and considering the major technical needs of in-and-out customers, the strategic development direction of sustainable mine reclamation technology through expanded sharing of R&D achievement was examined.
The objective of this study was to develop a management strategy for the recovery of carbon storage capacity of abandoned coal mine forest rehabilitation area. For the purpose, the biomass and stand carbon storage over time after the forest rehabilitation by tree type for Betula platyphylla, Pinus densiflora, and Alnus hirsuta trees which are major tree species widely planted for the forest rehabilitation in the abandoned coal mine were calculated, and compared them with general forest. The carbon storage in abandoned coal mine forest rehabilitation areas was lower than that in general forests, and based on tree species, Pinus densiflora stored 48.9%, Alnus hirsuta 41.1%, and Betula platyphylla 27.0%. This low carbon storage is thought to be caused by poor growth because soil chemical properties, such as low TOC and total nitrogen content, in the soil of abandoned coal mine forest rehabilitation areas, were adverse to vegetation growth compared to those in general forests. DBH, stand biomass, and stand carbon storage tended to increase after forest rehabilitation over time, whereas stand density decreased. Stand' biomass and carbon storage increased as DBH and stand density increased, but there was a negative correlation between stand density and DBH. Therefore, after forest rehabilitation, growth status should be monitored, an appropriate growth space for trees should be maintained by thinning and pruning, and the soil chemical properties such as fertilization must be managed. It is expected that the carbon storage capacity the forest rehabilitation area could be restored to a level similar to that of general forests.
To achieve mine development, a large amount of data concerned with the geological structure and the ore body had to be investigated and collected through geological survey, drilling and geophysical explorations. In most previous cases, however, the data were usually analyzed two dimensionally and those results showed some limits because of their 2D presentation. Those 2D maps such as geological plane sections or longitudinal sections cause lots of difficulties in understanding the complex geological structure or the feature of ore body in a spatial way. In this study, research area was set on the abandoned Yangyang iron mine in Korea and the Sugaeng ore body within the mine was selected as the research target to design a mine haulage system for reopening. A 3D mine model of this area was tried to be constructed using a 3D modelling software, GEMS. An accurate 3D model including the ore body, the geological structure, the old underground mine drifts and the new mine drifts was constructed under the purpose of reopening of the abandoned iron mine. Especially, mine design for trackless haulage system was conducted. New inclines and drifts were planned and modelled 3 dimensionally considering the utilization of old drifts and shaft. In addition to the 3D modelling, geostatistical technique was adopted to generate a spatial distribution of the ore grade and the rock physical properties. 3D model would be able to contribute in solving problems such as evaluating ore reserves, planning the mine development and additional explorations and changing the development plans, etc.

Although there are differences in the history of mining development by country, geographical conditions, and economic status, there are various problems such as water pollution caused by acid mine drainage from past mine development, soil and water pollution caused by mine tailing, and landslides caused by slope failure. Thus, human life is threatened by ground subsidence caused by collapses. Some countries have technology and legal systems that are different from those of others. In countries where mine reclamation is underway, or has to begin, there is a need for institutional arrangements and technical support. Countries trying to start mine reclamation require help from the international community. Technically and institutionally advanced nations need to recover from mine reclamation through cooperation with countries that are beginning to undertake reclamation.

The aim of this paper is analyzing the economic outcome of development aid project on closed mine and submitting the policy alternatives to seek for substitute industries which lead independent growth of that area. Despite the aid project deployed from 2001 to 2010, the economic result appears to be fragile. It is obvious that the contents and magnitude of aid projects has its own limitation to build independent economic structure in closed mine area. Conclusively, to overcome the regional restrictions, it is important to establish the aid project scheme to make a strategic and systematic resource distribution under the regional circumstances.
The objectives of this study were to select optimal soil amendments through analysis of heavy metal availability in soil and uptake to Aster koraiensis Nakai for forest rehabilitation of heavy metal contaminated soil of abandoned metal mine. A. koraiensis was cultivated for 6 months at contaminated soil with several soil treatments (bottom ash 1 and 2%, fly ash 1 and 2%, waste lime+oyster 1 and 2%, Acid mine drainage sludge (AMDS) 10 and 20%, compost 3.4%, non-contaminated natural forest soil, and control). The analysis results of heavy metal concentrations in the soil by Mehlich-3 mehthod, growth and heavy metal concentrations of A. koraiensis showed that waste oyster+lime 1% and compost were more effective than the other amendments for phytostabilization. However, it is needed comprehensive review of factors such as on-site condition, slope covering to reduce soil erosion and vegetation introduction from surround forest for revegetation to apply forest rehabilitation.
