  • In this paper, we propose a QoS routing protocol for WiMAX based wireless mesh networks. The proposed routing protocol is a proactive hop-by-hop QoS routing protocol. It can find an optimal route that satisfies QoS requirements using bandwidth and delay as QoS parameters. In this paper, we first present a network model for WIMAX based wireless mesh networks and explain why QoS routing protocol is the most appropriate for WiMAX based wireless mesh networks. Then, we propose a proactive hop-by-hop QoS routing protocol that meets QoS requirements of traffic flowing between mesh client and the gateway. The simulation results show that the proposed routing protocol outperforms QOLSR protocol in terms of end-to-end delay, packet delivery ratio and routing overhead.

  • The methanol extracts of 25 leguminous seeds in vitro was evaluated for inhibitory activities against the small intestinal $\alpha$-glucosidase of Sprague Dawley male rats. The responses varied both with leguminous seed types and concentrations used. At the concentration of 0.5 mg/ml, the methanol extracts of Cassia obtusifolia, Glycine max var. yagkong, Glycine max var. hooktae, Glycine max var. geumdu, Glycine max var. mejukong, Glycine soja, Phaseolus multiflorus, Pisum sativum, and Vigna sinensis inhibited over 50% of the enzyme activity. The extracts of G. max var. yagkong and V. sinensis showed relatively strong inhibitory activities against $\alpha$-glucosidase at the concentration of 0.1 mg/ml. The activity of each solvent fraction from G. max var. yagkong and V. sinensis was determined, and potent activities were detected from chloroform and butanol fractions, respectively. $IC_{50}$ values of G. max var. yagkong and V. sinensis were 0.06 and 0.19 mg/ml, respectively. As a naturally occurring therapeutic agents, leguminous seeds examined could be useful for developing new types of antidiabetic agents.

  • Purpose : Range Compensator used for proton therapy compensates the proton beam dose which delivers to the normal tissues according to the Target's Distal Margin dose. We are going to check the improvement of dose on the target part by comparing the dose of PTV and OAR according to applying in different method of Smooth Thickness of Range Compensator which is used in brain tumor therapy. Materials and Methods : For 10 brain tumor patients taking proton therapy in National Cancer Center, Apply Smooth Thickness applied in Range Compensator in order from one to five by using Compensator Editor of Eclipse Proton Planning System(Version 10.0, Varian, USA). The therapy plan algorithm used Proton Convolution Superposition(version 8.1.20 or 10.0.28), and we compared Dmax, Dmin, Homogeneity Index, Conformity Index and OAR dose around tumor by applying Smooth Thickness in phase. Results : When Smooth Thickness was applied from one to five, the Dmax of PTV was decreased max 4.3%, minimum at 0.8 and average of 1.81%. Dmin increased max 1.8%, min 1.8% and average. Difference between max dose and minimum dose decreased at max 5.9% min 1.4% and average 2.6%. Homogeneity Index decreased average of 0.018 and Conformity Index didn't had a meaningful change. OAR dose decreased in Brain Stem at max 1.6%, min 0.1% and average 0.6% and in Optic Chiasm max 1.3%, min 0.3%, and average 0.5%. However, patient C and patient E had an increase each 0.3% and 0.6%. Additionally, in Rt. Optic Nerve, there was a decrease at max 1.5%, min 0.3%, and average 0.8%, however, patient B had 0.1% increase. In Lt. Optic Nerve, there was a decrease at max 1.8%, min 0.3%, and average 0.7%, however, patient H had 0.4 increase. Conclusion : As Smooth Thickness of Range Compensator which is used as the proton treatment for brain tumor patients is applied in stages, the resolution of Compensator increased and as a result the most optimized amount of proton beam dose can be delivered. This is considered to be able to irradiate the equal amount at PTV and reduce the unnecessary dose applied at OAR to reduce the side effects.

  • Background : Cardiopulmonary exercise test is a useful test for the evaluation of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Obese subjects have an increased resting metabolic rate ($VO_2$) compared to non~obese subjects and the increase is more marked during dynamic exercise, which results in the limitation of maximal exercise in obese subjects. In this study, the influence of the obesity and fat distribution on the maximal exercise capacity were evaluated. Methods : Maximal exercise capacity was represented by maximam maximum oxygen uptake and $VO_2$ max in the cardiopulmonary test. Obesity, total fat content and abdomina1 obesity(waist to hip ratio, WHR) were measured by bioelectrical impedence method. Total of 42 volunteers (male 22, fema1e 20) were evaluated. Results : 1) Weight to height ratio (mean$\pm$SD) was 110$\pm$14.9% in men and 100$\pm$11.1% in women. 2) Fat ratio (mean$\pm$SD) was 23.3$\pm$5.2% in men and 27.55$\pm$3.9% in woman. 3) Waist to hip ratio (mean$\pm$SD) was 0.85$\pm$0.04 in men and 0.8$\pm$0.03 in woman. 4) In men, $VO_2$ max/min/Kg was negatively correlated with obesity, fat ratio, and abdominal fat distribution. 5) In woman, $VO_2$ max/Kg was negatively correlated with obesity and fat ratio, but did not show significant relationship with abdominal fat distribution. Conclusion : Obesity was a limiting factor for maximal exercise in both men and women. Abdominal obesity was a limiting factor for maximal exercise in men but its implication to women needs further evaluation.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bond strengths between IPS e.max Press and four different types of resin cements that often used for esthetic restoration. Disc shaped IPS e.max Press blocks(N=40, diameter: 12mm, thickness: 3mm) were fabricated according to the manufacture's instruction and cleaned with ultrasonic cleaner. They were embedded into an autopolymerizing acrylic resin. Fourty cylinder shaped resin block(Filtek Z350, diameter: 4.5mm, thickness: 3mm) were fabricated using a plastic tube. Each specimens were randomly divided into 4 experimental group and bonded each other using 4 different resin cements(Variolink II(light-cure), Variolink II(dual-cure), Calibra, Super-Bond C&B) according to the manufactures' recommendations. All the specimens were stored in normal saline at $37^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours before test. Universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 1mm/min was used to evaluate the shear bond strength. The data were statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA(P<.01). Multiple comparison was done by the Tukey HSD test. The shear bond strength of Super-Bond C&B to e.max was significantly lower than those of Calibra, Variolink II(light-cure), Variolink II(dual-cure) (P<.01). The shear bond strength of Calibra, Variolink II(light-cure), Variolink II(dual-cure) to e.max were not significantly different. The shear bond strengths of light-cure/dual-cure cement were higher than that of self-cure cement.

  • This study was undertaken to determine whether administration of a standardized gindeng extract at 300 mg.$d^1$ for 8 weeks could enhance maximum aerobic and anaerobic exercise capabilities and whether any changes of such effects can be occurred when exercise training was added. Forty-one male university students were randomly divided into four groups as ginseng-untrained (GU, n=10), ginseng-trained (GT, n=10), placebo-untrained (PU, n=10), and placebo-trained (PT, n=11). The trained groups underwent 8 weeks of aerobic exercise at 65% of individual's maximum oxygen consumption ($Vo_2$ max) for 30 min.$d^1$, 3d.$wk^1$. Prior to and at the end of experiment, $Vo_2$ max, anaerobic power (AP), anaerobic capacity (AC), and leg muscle strength were determined and some physiological parameters related to $Vo_2$ max were measured. Initially, all subject groups did not differ in average $Vo_2$ max (range 45.9 to 47.9 ml/.kg-1.min-1). After 8 weeks, the $Vo_2$ max increased significantly from the initial level by 12.6% in group GU, 14.5% in group PT, and 24.5% in group GU which was significantly higher than group GU but not group PT. Changes in all measured parameters related to $Vo_2$ max were similar among the subject groups except group PU. Both the AP and the AC were significantly increased in all subject groups (range +3.6 to +13.1% above initial for the AP and +4.4 to) 8.955 above initial for the AC) but the higher changes were found for the AP in groups PT and GU, and for the AC in grouts PT, when compared with group PU. No significant differences in the two anaerobic variables were observed between group GT and the other groups of subjects. Leg strength was also significantly enhanced over group PU in groups PT, GU and GT. There were no significant differences among the latter three subject groups. As a result of these findings, it was concluded that under the conditions of this study ginseng administration at the prescribed dose exhibited the training-like effects on $Vo_2$ max as well as anaerobic power and leg muscle strength but no clear synergistic action on these physical fitness variables occurred when both g inseng administration and exercise training were combined.

  • In this paper, we propose a proxy-based fast handover scheme to improve a performance in the mobile WiMAX network using PMIPv6 for supporting the network-layer mobility. In our proposed scheme, we define three link-layer messages and one network-layer message to reduce the handover latency, and propose a buffering mechanism to minimize packet loss and solve out-of-sequence problem. A performance evaluation indicates that the proposed scheme works more efficiently than PMIPv6 in terms of the handover latency and packet loss.

  • Various types of accelerators, thiuram (TMTD), thiazole (MBTS), and sulfenamide (CBS) are added into a silica filled natural rubber (NR) compound. Their effects on vulcanization properties are also investigated. TMTD shows a fast vulcanization rate and a higer maximum torque ($T_{max}$), as well as excellent mechanical properties (hardness, 300% modulus, tensile strength, elongation). MBTS shows a moderate vulcanization rate, a lower $T_{max}$, and mechanical properties. Finally, CBS shows a slow vulcanization rate but excellent mechanical properties. The same vulcanization trend can be found in carbon black filled NR compounds.

  • This study was attempted to investigate the dissolution rate and bioavailability of commercially available furosemide preparations. A. B. and C. The dissolution test was conducted in an artificial gastric juice using the basket method. and furosemide (40 mg) was administered orally to 8 normal volunteers by cross-over design. The results were as follows: the AUC and dissolution rate in 100 min ($D_{100\;min}$) were higher in order of preparations. A > C > B. But the peak concentration. time to reach peak concentration $(T_{max})$, and mean dissolution time (MDT) were in order of preparations. C > A > B. There were significantly linear correlations between the AUC and the $D_{100\;min}$, and between the $T_{max}$ and the MDT. From the results of this experiment. it can be concluded that commercially available preparations bioavailability of furosemide, which may be predicted from the dissolution rate.

  • In object analysis, line and curve finding plays a universal role. And, it can be accomplished by detecting ridges and ravines in digital gray-scale images. In this paper, we present a new method of detecting ridges and ravines by using local min and max operations. This method uses erosion and dilation properties of these fuzzy logic operations and requires no information of ridge or ravine direction, so that the method is simple and easy in comparison with the conventional analytical methods. The experimental results show that the technique has a strong ability in finding ridges and ravines.
