A Study on the Nutrition Knowledge about the Eating and Food Consumption of Adults in Seoul

  • In this study, we want to investigate the nutrition knowledge, eating habits, and food intake patterns of adults who have a strong preference for sugary snacks or sugary drinks. In this study, 83 students, or 33.1% of the 267 adults, were found to belong to the sugary food group, and the results of the survey were as follows. In terms of the level of eating habits, both male and female adults see significant differences among the groups. In the question of the regularity of the three meals, the quality of breakfast, the balance of meals, the level of consumption of green vegetables, meat, fish and milk, the number of sugars was low, and the number of sugars, instant foods, ham and sausages was high. In terms of nutritional knowledge, both male and female adults had a low number of sugary foods, and there were significant differences among the groups. In terms of the frequency of food intake, the frequency of eating rice and mixed grain rice was low, and the frequency of eating ramen and bread was high.

경남 일부 지역 여자 노인의 건강 및 영양 상태 조사 (A Study on Health Conditions and Nutritional Status of Elderly Women in Gyeongnam)

  • This study was performed to assess the nutritional status of low income elderly women aged ${\geq}$65 years residing in Gyeongnam Masan (n=124). Nutrition intakes, food intake frequency, and health-related behaviors including smoking, drinking, and exercise were investigated. Nutrition intake was calculated by the 24-hour recall method using CAN-pro (ver. 3.0). Average daily intakes of energy were $1,142.3{\pm}39$ kcal (71.4% of EER) in subjects aged 65~74 years and $1,071.0{\pm}41.7$ kcal (66.9% of EER) in subjects aged ${\geq}$75 years and the subjects consumed energy less than both 75% of estimated energy requirement (EER). The proportions of energy derived from protein, fat, and carbohydrate were 15.4:15.5:70.6 (aged 65~74 years), and 15.3:13.4:70.8 (aged ${\geq}$75). Nutrients consumed at less than estimated average requirements (EARs) were Ca (60.4%), P (98.4%), Zn (91%), vitamin E (48% of adequate intake, AI), vitamin $B_1$ (63.3%), vitamin $B_2$ (54%), niacin (87.7%), vitamin C (62.5%), and folate (50.5%). Especially, the intakes of Ca (58%), vitamin E (41% of AI), vitamin $B_1$ (60%), vitamin $B_2$ (50%), folate (46.5%), and vitamin C (54%) were 75% less than the EAR for people aged ${\geq}$75 years. According to the food intake frequency survey, the intakes of calcium, milk, fruits, and vegetables were very poor. In conclusion, this study suggests that a nutritional support program for elderly women of low socioeconomic class must be provided by the government to improve the quality of remaining life.

중학생의 간식 섭취 실태가 인성특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of snack intake on personality of middle school students)

  • 본 연구는 중학생의 간식 섭취와 인성의 일반적인 특성을 살펴보고, 성별 및 학년별 인성특성이 차이가 있는지 분석하였으며, 간식 섭취 횟수가 인성특성에 미치는 영향력을 알아보았다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 광주지역에서 중학생을 대상으로 자기기입식 설문조사를 통하여 수집된 717개의 자료를 분석하였다. 자료는 SPSS 프로그램을 이용하여 빈도, 백분율, 평균, 표준편차, t-검증, ANOVA, 사후검증, 중다회귀분석을 실행하였으며, 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 간식 섭취 횟수는 1일 1~2회 이상이 303명(42.3%)으로 제일 많았고, 아주 가끔 269명(37.6%), 1일 2~3회 이상 90명(12.6%), 전혀 먹지 않는다 54명(7.5%) 순으로 나타났으며 간식 섭취 이유는 습관적으로 182명(27.3%), 식사량이 부족해서 140명(21.0%), 식사를 걸러서 91명(13.6%), 스트레스 해소 55명(8.2%) 순으로 답하였다. 인성특성은 5점 리커트 척도로 답하도록 하였는데, 하위요인 중 친근성이 3.64로 제일 높았고, 개방성/지성 3.42, 외향성 3.36, 성실성 3.15, 감정안정성 3.09 순으로 높은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 성별에 따른 인성특성은 감정안정성만이 여학생이 남학생보다 유의적으로 높게 나타났으며(p<.05), 학년별 인성특성은 외향성(p<.001), 친근성(p<.05), 개방성/지성(p<.05)의 경우 중학교 3학년 학생들이 중학교 1학년과 2학년 학생들보다 유의적으로 낮게 나타났다. 셋째, 간식 섭취 횟수가 인성특성에 영향을 미치는 지 알아본 결과, 인성특성 하위요인 중 외향성에는 과일섭취 횟수(β=.134)가 친근성에는 빵(β=-.099), 과일(β=.142), 빙과(β=.092), 떡(β=.090) 섭취 횟수가, 성실성에는 과일(β=.107), 떡(β=.120) 섭취 횟수가, 감정안정성에는 빵(β=.105), 음료류(β=-.113), 과일(β=.113), 분식(β=-.126) 섭취 횟수가, 개방성/지성에는 과일(β=.106), 우유(β=.110) 섭취 횟수가 통계적으로 유의미하게 영향을 미쳤다. 인성특성의 모든 하위요인에 과일 섭취 횟수가 긍정적으로 영향을 미쳤으며, 떡은 친근성과 성실성에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤으며 음료류는 감정안정성에 부정적으로 영향을 미쳤다. 이에 단음료 대신 물을 충분히 마시고 우리 식재료를 활용한 식생활을 즐기는 것을 제안한 국민 공통 식생활지침을 지키는 것이 필요한 것을 재확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구결과는 중학생의 건강증진을 위한 간식 섭취와 인성개발의 방안을 모색하는데 기여할 수 있다고 생각한다.

식품의 일상섭취량 추정을 위한 식품섭취빈도의 활용가능성 및 타당도 연구 (Validation of Food Intake Frequency from Food Frequency Questionnaire for Use as a Covariate in a Model to Estimate Usual Food Intake)

  • 본 연구에서는 국민건강영양조사의 식품섭취빈도 조사로부터 식품섭취빈도를 산출한 후 이를 24시간 회상법에서 조사된 식품별 섭취량과의 상관관계를 탐색하여 식품 수준의 일상 섭취량을 추정할 때 식품섭취빈도를 공변수의 형태로 활용할 수 있을지 타진해 보기 위해 수행되었다. 국민건강영양조사에서 식품섭취빈도 조사가 수행되기 시작한 2012년부터 2014년까지 총 3개년도의 자료를 사용하였으며, 24시간 회상법과 식품섭취빈도 조사 모두를 수행한 10,945명을 대상으로 하였다. 분석을 위해 식품섭취빈도 조사지에 수록된 112개 항목별로 24시간 회상법에서 산출된 식품별 섭취량을 재산출하였으며, 이 결과와 각 개인이 식품섭취빈도 조사법에서 응답한 섭취빈도 및 섭취분량 간의 스피어만 상관계수를 산출하였다. 상관계수를 분석한 결과, 24시간 회상법의 섭취량과 식품섭취빈도법의 섭취빈도 간에는 총 112개 식품 중 59개 식품(52.2%)에서 통계적으로 유의한 양의 상관관계를 보였으며, 24시간 회상법의 섭취량과 섭취분량 간에는 102개 식품(90.3%)에서 통계적으로 유의한 양의 상관관계를 보였다. 곡류, 과일류, 난류, 두류, 생선류, 서류, 우유류, 육류, 음료류, 주류, 채소류, 해조류, 기타류의 13개 식품군으로 묶어 분석한 결과에서도 섭취빈도의 13개 군(100%)에서 통계적으로 유의한 상관관계를 보였으며, 생선류, 해조류, 기타류는 음의 상관을 보였고, 나머지 10개 항목은 양의 상관을 보였다. 본 연구를 통해 식품섭취빈도조사로부터 산출한 식품섭취빈도와 24시간 회상법 섭취량간의 일관된 상관관계를 확인할 수 있었으며, 이는 식품(군) 수준의 일상 섭취량을 추정할 때 식품섭취빈도를 중요한 공변수로 활용할 수 있는 근거가 된다고 하겠다.

우리나라 성인에서 atherogenic index of plasma와 식품군 섭취의 관련성: 도시기반 코호트 자료를 활용하여 (Atherogenic index of plasma and its association with food group intake in Korean adults: based on the baseline data of KoGES-HEXA study)

  • 본 연구는 우리나라 성인 남녀에서 관상동맥질환의 주요 예측 지표인 AIP와 식품군 섭취의 관련성을 분석하였다. 본 연구에서는 40-79세의 성인 남녀 133,381명을 대상으로 AIP 5분위 그룹에 따른 식품군 섭취량을 제시하였으며, 그 결과 AIP가 높은 그룹에서 낮은 그룹에 비해 곡류, 김치/피클류의 섭취가 높았고, 콩류, 종실류, 육류, 난류, 생선류, 우유 및 유제품 등의 섭취가 낮은 경향을 보였다. 본 연구는 한국인의 식사와 관상동맥질환 위험도 간의 관계에 대한 중요한 정보를 제공하며, 관상동맥질환 예방을 위해 다양한 식품군이 포함된 균형 잡힌 식사가 중요함을 시사한다. 본 연구 결과는 관상동맥질환을 예방할 수 있는 식사지침 제시를 위한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다. 추후 연구를 통해 한국인의 식사패턴을 분석하여 심혈관질환 발생 및 사망과의 관련성을 조사하고, 이를 통해 한국인의 심혈관질환 예방에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

전북지역 교사의 비만도에 따른 체중조절 행동, 식습관 및 건강관련 생활습관에 관한 연구 (A Study on Weight Control Behaviour, Eating Habits and Health-related Life Habits According to Obesity Degree of Teacher in Jeonbuk Province, Korea)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare weight control behaviour, eating habits, and health-related life habits according to degree of obesity among normal, overweight, and obese groups. Self-perception of weight and desire for weight control in males (p<0.001) and females (p<0.001) varied among the three groups. Reasons (p<0.001), experience (p<0.01), and method of weight control (p<0.05) were different among the three female groups, whereas males did not show any differences. Intake of nutritional supplements in the male obese group was higher compared to other groups (p<0.01), whereas eating habits were not significantly different among the three groups for both males and females. Food habits score for intake of fruits, milk, and yogurt were higher in females than males (p<0.001). Correlation coefficients of food habits score and anthropometric measurements showed that hip circumference was negative for intake of fruits in males, whereas RBW and BMI were positive for food combination, intake of bean products, and fishes in females (p<0.05). Frequency and fitting exercise in the obese female group were lower than in the other groups (p<0.01). Therefore, proper nutritional education for obese individuals is recommended proper self-perception of weight, good food habits, and regular exercise.

한국 성인 비만 집단의 탄수화물 급원 식품 섭취 분포 및 노출 위험도: 대규모 한국인유전체 역학 자료 활용 (Distribution and Exposure Prevalence of Carbohydrate-based Food Intake among Obese Korean Adults Based on the Health Examinees (HEXA) Study)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to estimate the distribution and exposure prevalence of total carbohydrate intake and the carbohydrate-based foods such as rice, noodles, sweet potatoes, sweet drinks, milk and fruits and to characterize intake patterns among obese Korean adults. Methods: Subjects included 137,363 adults aged 40 years or older who participated in a Health Examinees (HEXA) Study. Multiple regression analysis of data from Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQFFQ) identified food sources of carbohydrates. Weight, height and waist circumstance (WC) were measured, and the body mass index (BMI) was calculated. Obesity was defined as $BMI{\geq}25kg/m^2$ and abdominal obesity as $WC{\geq}90cm$ and ${\geq}85cm$ for males and females, respectively. Results: Obese adults appeared to have a higher total carbohydrate intake in the univariate analysis but had eaten less after adjustment for general and lifestyle factors, compared to normal weight adults (OR 0.78, 95% CI 0.73-0.82 for general obesity; OR 0.79, 95% CI 0.74-0.85, for abdominal obesity; P trend < 0.0001, respectively). Based on advance analysis for the food sources of carbohydrates, obese subjects had lower intake of rice (OR 0.86, 95% CI 0.68 -1.09 for general obesity; OR 0.87, 95% CI 0.67-1.13, for abdominal obesity; P trend < 0.0001, respectively) and higher intake of noodles (OR 1.21, 95% CI 1.16-1.27 for general obesity; OR 1.25, 95% CI 1.19-1.32, for abdominal obesity; P trend < 0.0001 respectively). With regard to other food sources of carbohydrates such as milk and fruits, intake was lower among obese compared to normal weight subjects. Conclusions: In the Korean middle-aged and older obesity groups, the intake of carbohydrates and the related foods was lower than in normal weight subjects, except for noodles. We conclude that a higher intake of noodles may enhance weight-gain. Therefore, this study suggested that the guidelines should consider the types of carbohydrate sources and the amount consumed from foods in order to provide proper guidance with regard to control and prevent obesity among Korean adults.

Correlations Among Maternal and Infant Factors, Lead Exposure, and Serum Prolactin Levels During Lactation: A Cross-sectional Study in Indonesia

  • Objectives: Prolactin is vital for breastfeeding and milk production, and its secretion is influenced by factors related to the mother, infant, and environment. To date, no study has concurrently investigated the correlation of these factors with serum prolactin levels during lactation. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate the correlations among maternal and infant factors, lead exposure, and serum prolactin levels during lactation. Methods: A cross-sectional approach was employed in Surabaya, Indonesia, among 110 exclusively lactating mothers. The mothers' daily diets were determined using multiple 24-hour recalls, while blood lead levels were measured with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Serum prolactin levels were assessed using the electrochemiluminescence immunoassay. For bivariate analysis, we employed the Spearman correlation, Mann-Whitney, and Kruskal-Wallis tests, while for multivariate analysis, we utilized multiple linear regression. Results: The average serum prolactin level of the lactating mothers was 129.19±88.96 ng/mL. Positive correlations were found between serum prolactin levels and breastfeeding frequency (p<0.001), protein intake (p<0.001), and calcium intake (p=0.011) but had negative correlation with blood lead levels (p<0.001) and vitamin B6 intake (p=0.003). Additionally, prolactin levels were not significantly associated with maternal age; parity; intake of calories, vitamin D, vitamin E, zinc, folic acid, magnesium, or iron; infant age; or infant sex. Conclusions: Breastfeeding frequency had a stronger positive relationship with serum prolactin levels than protein and calcium intake. However, lead exposure was associated with reduced serum prolactin levels during lactation. Consequently, specific interventions from policymakers are necessary to manage breastfeeding in mothers exposed to lead.

초등학교 고학년의 주의력결핍.과잉행동장애와 식습관 및 카페인 섭취와의 관련성 (The relationship between attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, dietary habit and caffeine intake in upper-grade elementary school children)

  • This study was performed in order to investigate the relationship between attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), dietary habit and caffeine intake in upper-grade elementary school children. The total number of the study subjects was 237 students (111 boys and 126 girls), where 30 students (12.7%) were diagnosed as ADHD. The dietary habit score of the ADHD group was significantly lower than that of the normal group. In particular, the ADHD group had lower dietary scores in consuming daily breakfast, diverse foods, fruit and milk than those in the normal group. Meanwhile, the daily intake frequency of instant noodle (ramyeon) was significantly higher in the ADHD group than that in the normal group. The mean caffeine intake of the students was 42.95 mg and the proportion of students consuming more than the ADI (acceptable daily intake) was 11.8%. The caffeine intake of ADHD group (63.63 mg) tended to be higher than that of the normal group (39.95 mg); however, it was not significantly different. The ADHD score of the students was negatively related with the dietary habit score (r = -0.279, p < 0.01) but positively related with caffeine intake (r = 0.164, p < 0.05). The dietary habit score had a negative relationship with caffeine intake (r = -0.180, p < 0.01) and a positive relationship with height (r = 0.195, p < 0.01). Caffeine intake had a negative relationship with the height of the students (r = -0.171, p < 0.05). In conclusion, ADHD in children was related to poor dietary habit and high caffeine intake.

직장인 남성에서 식이 요오드섭취량과 불현성 갑상선기능이상과의 연관성 (Dietary iodine intake and the association with subclinical thyroid dysfunction in male workers)

  • The prevalence rate of thyroid dysfunction (hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism) has increased within the Korean population and seems to be affected by iodine dietary habits. Some studies reported that the prevalence of thyroid dysfunction increase both in the area of iodine deficiency and excess. In this study, we tried to discover the difference in iodine intake, anthropometric measurements, and blood parameters between male subjects with or without subclinical thyroid dysfunction. A total of 5,249 subjects (Euthyroid: 4706, SubHypo: 454, SubHyper: 89) were used in this study. There were no significant differences in BMI, body fat, visceral fat, waist circumference, SBP, DBP, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, TG, fasting serum glucose, HbA1c, alcohol intake, however significant differences were noticed in both age and smoking status. Through a food frequency questionnaire (FFQ), iodine intake per day was estimated. The average iodine intake was similar (SubHypo $392.9{\pm}279.0{\mu}g$, Euthyroid $376.5{\pm}281.7{\mu}g$, SubHyper $357.3{\pm}253.8 {\mu}g$) among groups. The main source of iodine intake was eggs (52.8%, 54.2%, 52.4%) followed by milk (16.3%, 15.8%, 17.8%), then sea mustard & sea tangle (12.4%, 11.9%, 11.6%). The prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism and subclinical hyperthyroidism was higher in subjects whose intake was higher than the recommended nutrient intake (RNI). These results suggest that the excess consumption of iodine intake may act as one of the risk factors regarding thyroid dysfunction in Korea. Therefore, an adequate amount of iodine intake is necessary in order to prevent subclinical thyroid dysfunction and clinical thyroid dysfunction.
