  • Currently, increasing the number of artillery units requires more deployment space in FABA. However, available positions of artillery units in FEBA is limited due to mountainous terrains. Therefore, it is hard to find enough artillery position space in accordance with the field artillery mannual. This paper studies on determination of the size of battery position in order to maximize the firing-effectiveness and to minimize the enemy threat. Also, it studies the possibility of reducing the size of a battery position. The optimum size of a battery position id obtained by using Dantzig's model and Supper Quick II model which produces the probability of kill data with various input data. As a result, it shows that the size of battery position can be reduced without decreasing the firing-effectiveness.

  • This paper is to describe LYNX-ESM Simulation System to simulate for EW operating environment analysis and system performance verification of LYNX-ESM system using Discrete Event Simulation(DEVS) Methodology. This system consists of 3 PC with TCP/IP network. Each PC is loaded with Modeling & Simulation program based DEVS. Each connected program conducts EW simulation. As a result, we analyze the operating environment of the maritime EW threat, simulate the EW threat discrimination and geolocation capability, and estimate the LYNX-ESM system effectiveness before real LYNX-ESM system development.

  • When simulating the mission flight of a fighter equipped with the avionic ECM pod, it is massively required to provide the correct information of threats, to depict the real environment of mission area, and to precisely model the capability of the ECM system. Also, in order to get the reliable results of those simulation, it should be supported the flexible changes of threat environments and the examination of multiple flight paths. This paper presents a software system which is possible to flexible and interactive ECM simulation. This system has capable of the 2D or 3D visualization of virtual battle field, the management of electronic threat data, and the simulation of engagement model.

  • This paper deals with assigning defensive counter air aircraft to the moving target in the air. Recently various kinds of allocation problems have been researched for fixed targets using offensive aircrafts. However, the counter air allocation problems for attacking aircrafts with considering the time and the threat have not been studied much. The main objective of this study is to mininize the time to intercept and the threat values simultaneously by using goal programming. The optimal solution by using an integer goal programming and a branch and bound algorithm is found and analyzed. By applying this model to real situation, we expect to reduce the time and number of sorties for destroying enemy aircraft, respectively.

  • This paper describes a comprehensive analysis of the air defense capability of Aegis class ships on the netted battlefield. A principal threat to ships at sea is anti-ship cruise missiles. The missiles flies lower, faster, and with less radar cross section than its predecessors. Therefore, the ship of the 21s1 century must have the future operational capability based NCW to engage this threat and then the survivability of ship can be guaranteed. This operational concept is reflected in Aegis ship and CEC of US navy, In the near future, the korean navy will be possessed a few Aegis class ships. In this view, this paper has analyzed the intercept range of the sea-skimming ASCM to measure the area defense capability of the Aegis ship in PCW and NCW, respectively and presented the air defense capability of the ship on the netted battlefield.

  • The Cyber space of the ROK Army is constantly threatened by enemy. In order to reponse to such cyber treats, vulnerabilities of information assets of the ROK Army should be identified and eliminated early. However, the ROK Army currently lacks systematic management of vulnerabilities. Therefore, this paper investigates trends of each country's vulnerability management and the actual situation of the management of the vulnerabilities in the ROK Army, and suggests ways of linking vulnerability database and the ROK Army information asset management system for effective vulnerability management of the ROK Army information assets.

  • This study aims to investigate what to be prepared and implemented for the military integration when South and North Korea are making progress toward unification. Although we can not exactly predict when the unification will be completed at this time, preparations for the military integration should be ready ahead of time. Since the failure of the military integration can threat the unification, elaborated and practical solutions are required. Therefore, the study tries to answer the following questions : 1) What types of the military integration are desirable and what are the prerequisites for the unification of Korean Peninsular? ; 2) What potential military tasks could be caused by military integration? ; 3) What are the core and major tasks among them and how could they be solved in practical aspects?

  • After defeat in World War II, Japan's Peace Constitution committed the country to forego the acquisition of offensive military capabilities. However, in the midst of the post-cold war period, Japan began to change its security posture in line with the so-called 'normal state theory', which called for a more robust defense posture and expanded security activities. The second Abe administration promoted these security policies by issuing a National Security Strategy as well as a new National Defense Program Outline(NDPO) in 2013 and by establishing new security institutions such as the National Security Council. The Abe administration also adopted the new concept of a 'Unified Mobile Defense Force' in the 2013 which replaced the 'Dynamic Defense Force' as a new criteria for the Self-Defense Force's acquisition of military capabilities. In this new concept of military capabilities, the Ground Self-Defense Force is planning to replace existing divisions with mobile divisions and to form 'Amphibious Rapid Deployment Bridge' for the first time in 2018, which has long been taboo in Japan. Japan has experience a Marine Corps in the past. Likewise, an offensive changes in the military strategy can change the spectrum of strategy and 'Amphibious Rapid Deployment Bridge' plays a big role in this. Furthermore, Japan is increasing the Coast Guard's budget and capabilities in preparation for contingencies around the Senkaku islands (called the Diaoyu in Chinese). The South Korea navy should utilize Japan's changing security posture to deter immediate threat such as North Korea's military provocations and potential enemy threat such as China, Japan, Russia.

  • Currently, South Korea is exposed to various attacks of North Korea such as traditional, nuclear, and ABC weapons. Now it is hard to make an accurate estimate the damage may have been occurred to citizens due to those attacks. It is only possible to assume the rough outline. As a countermeasure to such military threats of North Korea, government-aided evacuation facilities services are going along across the board concerning the object, installation range, budget, and drawing standards. Whereas, in case of public evacuation facilities, there is no special regulation or principle in designation. Since various facilities are regarded as applicable, any protection against military threats can't be anticipated. In this study, military threats provoked by North Korea are figured out, thus the problem of plan and design that public evacuation facilities have are pointed out. This study suggest the result and proposal.

  • South Korea should not be in subordinate position in international relationships like the past. As the status of middle power. South Korea achieves peaceful unification through overcoming North Korea's nuclear and conventional threats, and builds military power in Northeast Asia as a 'balancer'. This can firstly be achieved by constructing "attack systems triad". 'attack systems triad' can be established through integrating the C41SR as a common strategy for the purposes of preemptive deterrence and retaliatory deterrence against the dangers of the present and the future. Second, denial deterrence can be achieved by establishing "defense system triad" by combining common military power and defensive weapon system. Finally, development of independent advanced technological strategies can be achieved by building defense industry and combination of research and development through constructing "Infra triad". As for constructing and reinforcing the future of the ROK military, a unilateral principle and policy efforts to achieve the aforementioned force construction models are needed. This can only be achieved through the government's national vision to take on the role of mediator and a basis founded upon the consensus of the public.
