In this paper, a technique for the quantitative analysis of the noise jamming effect is proposed. This technique based upon the mathematical modeling for noise jammers and the probability theory for random processes analyses the jamming effect by means of the modeling of the relationship among jammer, radar variables and radar detection probability under noise jamming environment. Computer simulation results show that the proposed technique not only makes the quantitative analysis of the jamming effect possible, but also provides the basis for quantitative analysis of the electronic warfare environment.
This study suggests a method of command and control in modeling a combat situation. In particular, it presents the structure of an intelligent agent that may substitute for the current system of decision making in the military operation to lead a troop. Today the Korean military war game simulations emphasize on engagements, instead of command and control. This suggested principle will be a good foundation for the today and the future Korean warfare.

In this paper, a strip modeling method is developed for the acquisition of target positions in remote area and validated using the imagery of SPOT satellite. This method utilizes the parameters given in header files and constructs a camera model without ground control points. In most cases, the root mean squared error of check points is less than pixel size with one ground control point. The model error of reference image is evaluated using ground control points and used to remove the model error of target images acquired along the same satellite orbit, which enables one to calculate target positions in remote area where no ground control points are available.

A study on aerodynamic modeling was performed to predict the hinge moments required for initial design of missile. Fin aerodynamic coefficients were modeled using the equivalent angle of attack method based on the wind tunnel test. In addition, CFD analysis was performed to calculate the dynamic pressure around the body and improve the accuracy of aerodynamic coefficients. The aerodynamic coefficient accuracy was verified by comparisons of the coefficient acquired from wind tunnel test and prediction of flow conditions, not involved in the model built-up. It was confirmed that fin aerodynamic coefficients can be predicted effectively by using the proposed method.
Based on the stress process model, this study examined the process of how military personnel's occupational characteristics (i.e., long and unspecified work hours, frequent moving) is associated with their wives' marital satisfaction and parenting stress. We focused on whether the wives' perception toward the characteristics of military occupation and the wives' military family pride mediated the association. An online survey was conducted with 323 women married to professional active-duty military husbands, had at least one preschool child, and lived with the husband and child. Using structural equation modeling, we found that the wives' perception of military occupational characteristics and military family pride mediated the relationship between their husband's work hours and the wives' marital satisfaction and parenting stress. This serial multiple mediation indicated that the longer and more unspecified the husband's work hours were, the more negative the wife's perceptions were towards his military occupation, which led to lower marital satisfaction and higher parenting stress. The single mediation effect of negative perceptions was also significant. Frequent moving was indirectly related to the wives' marital satisfaction and parenting stress through only the wives' negative perceptions toward military occupational characteristics. This result indicates that military spouses who experienced frequent moves are likely to have more negative attitudes toward military occupation, which leads to lower marital satisfactions and higher parenting stress. This study contributes to the literature by identifying the underlying mechanisms between military occupational characteristics and military wives' family life through the mediating roles of negative perceptions and military family pride.

For decades, modeling of pilots has been intensively studied due to its advantages in reducing costs for training and enhancing safety of pilots. In particular, research for modeling of pilots' non-kinetic behaviors which refer to the decisions made by pilots is beneficial as the expertise of pilots can be inherent in the models. With the recent growth in the amount of combat logs accumulated, employing statistical learning methods for the modeling becomes possible. However, the combat logs consist of heterogeneous data that are not only continuous or discrete but also sequence independent or dependent, making it difficult to directly applying the learning methods without modifications. Therefore, in this paper, we present a kernel function named hybrid sequence kernel which addresses the problem by using multiple kernel learning methods. Based on the empirical experiments by using combat logs obtained from a simulator, the proposed kernel showed satisfactory results.

TPNSim++ is the object-oriented framework for the discrete event simulation of military systems, developed by authors. The simulation world view of TPNSim++ is on the basis of activity scanning. TPNSim++ is implemented as C++ class library under Windows 95/NT. It uses the extended timed Petri nets which are called TPNSim nets for simulation modeling tool. The aim of this study is to conduct a comparative study of TPNSim++ and SLAM II in the simulation of military maintenance systems for the validation and the applicability of TPNSim++. From this study, TPNSim++ and SLAMII have given the same results under the equivalent assumption. Thus we can get the validation of TPNSim++ and its applicability to the simulation of maintenance systems.
The present study investigates the effects of the flight paths of military aircraft on noise map and its WECPNL(Weighted Equivalent Continuous Perceived Noise Level) distribution. Aircraft noise modeling and simulation have been performed on a Korean military air base by means of INM(Integrated Noise Model) with the input data of airfield location, aircraft specifications, flight paths and aircraft's operation schedules. The result of noise modelling has been verified in comparison with the result of measured noise level. The flight path of military aircraft, as the key parameter of the present study, was modeled by combining takeoff, overfly, approach and touch-and-go modes. The present INM simulations have been conducted for various flight path cases with different takeoff, approach modes and overfly modes. The simulation results showed that the change of flight path can remarkably affect the noise influence region and the WECPNL distribution around the airfield.

Protection against direct projectiles has been adapted just to the main command posts in the existing protective facility standards. However, protective capacity for the shelters against direct projectiles is also required because the initial survivability as well as the operation sustainment of the shelters is critical during a couple of days from outbreak of war. In this study, the Russian artillery is used to determine the existing and future threat of the North Korean Armed Forces indirectly. And then, required protective capacity of military shelters in the contact areas is calculated along with UFC 3-340-02 and it is verified using modeling and simulation. Based on the assessed capacity, actual inspect of military facilities with contact areas on spot is performed whether military shelters have enough protection capacity against determined threats. According to the field study, it is verified that proper earth bermed shelter has enough protection capacity. The results in this study could be used how to retrofit the current shelters in the contact areas.

In Korea military (KM), various military supplies are distributed to individual military units via three different multi-tier supply networks owned and operated by army, navy, and air force, respectively. Under the current supply networks, the chances for the occurrence of delayed supply, undersupply, and oversupply increase, and supply redundancy also can become a problem. Thus, KM is now trying to improve its current multi-tier supply networks by constructing logistics consolidation centers. Private companies operate logistics consolidation centers to effectively manage various types of inventories before delivering them to final customers. In this paper, we newly propose a mathematical model for building the optimized military supply network considering adopting the military logistics consolidation centers. Based on the real situation of KM, the proposed model was validated in terms of its feasibility, and it seems that the outcome (the location of the military logistics consolidation centers) of the proposed model can be one of the good alternatives for KM.
