A Study on the Menopausal Symptoms and Quality of Life in Middle Aged Women (중년여성의 폐경증상과 삶의 질)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the differences Quality of Life(QOL) according to menopausal symptoms in middle aged women. Method: The subjects consisted of 578 women( 45-60 years old) residing in urban area by convenience sampling from March 15 to May 30, 2002. The data were collected by structured questionnaire that included general characteristics, menopausal symptoms and QOL scale. the collected data were analyzed by the SPSS 11.0 program that included descriptive statistics, t-test and ANOV A. Result: The averaged age of menopause of subjects was 48.29:1:4.66 years and 74.8% in the subjects complained menopausal symptoms. As for the orders of complained menopausal symptom, it was fatigue, hot flashes, benumbed hands and feet, and irritability. The mean score of the QOL scale was showing above average level of quality of life. Religion was significantly different to the score for activity of QOL, monthly income was different to the score for activity and physical well-being of QOL. Menopausal status was significantly different to the QOL. Conclusion: This study suggests that a replicate study is needed. The results are also useful in developing various programs for health promotion of middle aged women.

Risk Factors of Osteopenia among Korean Middle-aged Women (중년여성의 골감소증 위험요인)

  • Purpose: This study examined the demographic and lifestyle differences between women with osteopenia and those with normal bone mineral density (BMD) to identify risk factors for osteopenia. Method: Participants comprised 381 women age 40-64 years. Data were collected using surveys, BMD measures, and anthropometric parameters. Results: Prevalence of osteopenia was 29.1%; significant differences in age group, job, age at menarche, age at menopause, and body mass index were found between women with osteopenia and those with normal BMD. Logistic regression analysis indicated that advanced age, unemployment, lower body mass index, and lack of exercise in women were significantly associated with osteopenia. Conclusion: This study suggests the need for strategies to improve bone health and continuous cohort studies to identify risk factors.

The Relationship Among Urinary Incontinence, Menopausal Symptom and Life Satisfaction in Middle Aged Women (일 지역 중년여성의 요실금.갱년기 증상과 생활만족도와의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate of the relationship of the urinary incontinence, menopausal symptom and life satisfaction in middle aged women. The subjects of this study were 235 middle aged women, living in M city, during the period from June 21 to August 31, 2000. The instruments for this study were the urinary incontinence modified and adding by Lee Young Sook(1994), the menopausal symptom developed by Song Ae Ri and Chung Eun Soon(1998) and the life satisfaction translated and modified by Suh Kyung Hee(1988). Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression with SAS package. The result of this are as follows : 1. The total mean score of urinary incontinence was $1.56{\pm}0.58$ with a range of 0 to 4. The mean score on the menopausal symptom was $2.05{\pm}0.43$ with a range of 1 to 4. The mean life satisfaction score was $1.14{\pm}0.41$ with a range of 0 to 2. 2.General characteristics ralated to urinary incontinence were age and numbers of children (F=7.66, p=0.000, F=2.86, p=0.037). General characteristics ralated to menopausal symptom were age (F=7.37, p=0.000), occupation (t=5.33, p=0.021), problem of children (t=6.46, p=0.011) and marital satisfaction (F=5.65, p=0.004). General characteristics ralated to life satisfaction were type of housing (t=12.06, p=0.000), problem of children (t=6.96, p=0.008) and marital satisfaction (F=18.86, p=0.000). 3.The urinary incontinence and menopausal symptom were correlated positively (r=.235, p=.000). The urinary incontinence and life satisfaction were correlated negatively (r=-.114, p=.007). The menopausal symptom and life satisfaction were correlated negatively (r=-.277, p=.000). 4.The menopausal symptom, type of housing and marital satisfaction explained 16.6% of the variance for life satisfaction in the middle aged women.

Risk Assessment for Cardiocerebrovascular Disease in Middle Age Women Workers (중년여성 근로자의 뇌심혈관질환 발병위험도 평가)

  • The purposed of this study was to identify cardiocerebrovascular disease risk assessment and the factors that affect cardiocerebrovascular disease risk. The subjects of this study were 1340 middle age women worker in one shipyard. This study was base on worker health check up data. Data were analyzed using SPSS18.0 program. "healthy group" were 1078(80.4%), "low risk group" were 45(3.4%), "moderate risk group" were 150(11.2%), "high risk group" were 67(5.0%). Age, HDL, LDL, smoking, family history of stroke, hypertension were the factors that affected the risk cardiocerebrovascular disease. Results of this study can be used as fundamental data for developing cardiocerebrovascular disease preventive program in middle aged women.

Effects of Seogeum Therapy on Obesity for Middle Aged Abdominal Obese Women (서금요법이 복부비만 중년여성의 비만정도에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was to examine the effects of Seogeum therapy for middle-aged abdominal obese women. Methods: Seogeum therapy combined cupping, stepping on ion aluminum board, adhering to Seoam moxibustion and Seoam pellet. The subjects consisted of 30 middle-aged abdominal obese women between 40 and 59 years of age: fifteen were assigned to experimental group, fifteen to control group. The data collection and treatments were performed from June to October, 2007. The subjects of experimental group participated in Seogeum therapy for 5 times per week during 8 weeks. The data were analyzed with Chi-square test, Wilcoxon signed rank test and Wilcoxon rank-sum test with SPSS/Window 12.0 program. Results: Seogeum therapy experimental group showed significant difference in change of general obesity indexes(body weight, body fat amount, body fat ratio, BMI) than control group supporting hypothesis 1. Experimental group showed significant difference in change of abdominal obesity indexes(abdominal fat ratio, waist circumference, hip circumference) than control group supporting hypothesis 2. Conclusion: Obesity management of Seogeum therapy had a positive effect for middle-aged obese women. Therefore, it is concluded that the obesity management of Seogeum therapy can be applied as a nursing intervention to decrease the obesity for middle-aged women.

A Study on Real somatotype and Body consciousness of Middle-aged women (중년기 여성의 실제체형과 신체의식에 관한연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine differences between real somatotypes and cog-nitive somatotypes by considering the degree of satisfaction of body parts. The subjects were 250 middle-aged women from 40-54. Data was collected through anthropometry and surveys. Data was analyzed by correlation analysis anova duncan multiple range test factor analysis regression analysis crosstabulation analysis. The results were as follows: 1. Middle-aged women tend to prefer having a slim truck long and slim limbs and their hope was to be tall in height and light in weight slim at the waist and abdomen. 2. The consciousness about thickness was in-tensified more than that about length of the body. 3. The slim somatotype group were more satisfied with their body than those of obese somatotype group. 4. The average R hrer Index of middle-aged women is 1.55 and the slim somatotype group is 1.33 and the standard somatotype group is 1.53 obese somatotype group is 1.82. Age has much influence on the body change of middle-aged women. Especially 45-49 years old the slim body type declined heavily. 5. When analyzing the elements of body sat-isfaction the biggest elements are in the sub-ject of girth related to the expansion of trunk. Therefore trunk girth has more influence on body satisfaction than height and limbs. So the obession of trunk girth is the most important factor in body satisfaction. 6. Most middle-aged women although not judged to be obese by measurements believed themselves to be obese.

A Study on economic preparations for aging of middle-old aged women (중고령 여성의 경제적 노후준비에 관한 연구)

  • This study was designed to explore the factors affecting economic preparations for aging of middle-old aged women. Using fourth Korean retirement and income study panel data of National Pension Reacher Institute. The researcher explored the characteristics of preparation for the old age life who middle-old aged women and analyzed the factors affecting economic preparations for aging of middle-old aged women. The results were as follows. The the factors affecting economic preparations for aging of middle-old aged women were education level, subjective health status, a number of adolescent children(14-19), a number of adolescent children(20-39), public pension, financial asset and debt. On the basis of this results, suggestions for policy were offered.

Effects of a Exercise Program on Body Composition, Physical Fitness and Lipid Metabolism for Middle-Aged Obese Women (운동프로그램이 중년비만여성의 체구성, 체력 및 지질대사에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study was to examine the effects of an exercise program for middle-aged obese women. Method: The exercise program combined folk dance and resistance training. The subjects group consisted of 85 middle-aged obese women between 40 and 60 years of age. Three 8 week sessions consisted of a $55-80\%$ maximum heart rate (MHR) exercise for 60-90 minutes a day and 3 times a week from March to November, 2004. Data was collected through a pre- and post-exercise test before and after each session. Data was collected with Inbody, dynamometer and blood. This data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, and a paired t-test with an SPSS/PC(10.0 version) program. Results: There were significant positive changes in body weight, body fat mass, body mass index, percent body fat, muscle strength, muscle endurance, flexibility, and balance quality, but no significant positive changes in skeletal mass, fat free mass, percent abdominal fat(waist-hip ratio), visceral fat area, agility, total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, or triglycerides. Conclusion: This study showed that an exercise program has partially positive effects for middle-aged obese women. The results of this study show that exercise at community health centers should continue for middle-aged obese women's health.

The Effects of Health Promotion Program on Health belief, Health promoting Behavior and Quality of Life for Middle-aged Women: Based on Health Belief Model

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of health promotion program, which was based on the Health Belief Model, on the health belief, health promoting behavior and quality of life for middle-aged women. Methods: The study focused nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. Data were collected among 40 middle-aged women (20 were experimental group and 20 were control group) on 1st November 2014 and 25th April 2015. The experimental group received 12 sessions of health promotion program for aging preparation once a week for 12 weeks. Data were analyzed by ${\chi}^2$ and t-test and paired t-test using the PASW 21.0 program. Results: The study results shown that, health belief (t=-2.94, p=.006), health promoting behavior (t=-4.76, p<.001) and higher quality of life (t=-7.65, p<.001) scores of experimental group were higher than the control group. Conclusion: The health promotion program based on the Health Belief Model was effective and increased the health belief and health promoting behavior and quality of life among middle-aged women. It seems health promotion program is necessary to improve middle age women's health and quality of later life.

The Effect of family stress on psychological well-being in middle-aged: mediating effects of family resilience and depression (중년기의 가족스트레스가 심리적 안녕감에 미치는 영향 : 가족탄력성과 우울의 매개효과)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify the mediating effects of family resilience and depression in a relation between family stress and psychological well-being among middle-aged. Method: The subjects were 409 of men and women between 40 to 59 living in D and G province. They completed the questionnaire on family stress, family resilience, depression, and psychological well-being. Correlation and structural equation models of SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 22.0 were used to examine the relations between the variables. Results: The results are as follows. First, family stress had no significant effect on psychological well-being of middle age men and women, while it directly influenced on family resilience and depression. Second, family resilience and depression had direct influence on psychological well-being. Third, there were significant mediating effects of family resilience and depression in a relationship between family stress and psychological well-being. Conclusions: Family stress has an indirect effect on psychological well-being among middle age men and women mediated by family resilience and depression. The result suggest that psychological well-being influenced by family stress can be improved by enhancing Family Resilience and reducing Depression.
