The program that consisted of 10-minute 21 sessions was provided to fifth-grade elementary schoolers for eight weeks. The findings of the study were as follows: The experimental group that participated in the PBL-based career education program showed a more significant improvement than the control group that didn't in career attitude and three career attitude subfactors involving planness, disposition and compromise. And the former made a more significant progress than the latter in career ability and its subfactors including vocational comprehension, self-understanding and decision-making skills as well. As a result of making a content analysis to make up for the survey, the students reported that they were able to get an objective understanding of themselves and acquire diverse and profound knowledge on work and the business world in the middle of solving the given PBL problems related to different areas in group and giving a presentation. In conclusion, a PBL based career education program developed by this researcher encouraged the students to have an objective self-understanding, to have a dynamic interactive discussion with their group members. Therefore the program had a positive impact on boosting the career attitude and career ability of the elementary schoolers. The findings suggested that in the field of elementary career education, autonomous learning attitude and subjecthood are the crucial factors to stimulate school children to explore and create their own future.

  • Based on Perceptions about Mathematics Teachers (PMT) perceived by high school students, measured by 2189 students from Seoul Educational Longitudinal Study 2014 (SELS 2014), latent profile analysis (LPA) identified five distinct types of student groups (positive, partial positive, middle, negative, extreme negative). These student of positive, middle, and negative groups are positive, moderate and negative perceptions about math teachers. Partial positive group generally had a positive perception about mathematics teachers, extremely negative group was very negative about mathematics teachers. Both of these groups had peculiarly inconsistent trends and several anomalies. The Multinomial logistic regression analyses also indicated that individual factors (gender, major, self-concept, resilience, self-assessment, career maturity), school factors (friendship, relationship with school teachers) and parental factors (academic-relationship, emotional-relationship) were significant predictors of PMT profile groups. The Analysis of variance also indicated that mathematics class (attitude, satisfaction and atmosphere), Mathematics achievement were significant predictors of PMT profile groups. The profiling of perceptions about mathematics teachers resulted in enhanced understanding of the complex range of processes students employed. During mathematics class, implementation of smooth interactions and communications between students and teachers added in the teaching and learning of mathematics.

  • Based on the OECD learning compass 2030, which presented the competencies required for students to live in an uncertain future, this study developed an entrepreneurship teaching and learning model for secondary career education by applying design-based research. Due to the limitations of the paper, this study did not cover the entire research procedure of design-based research in detail, mainly dealt with the model's expert validation and career teacher usability evaluation, and developed the final entrepreneurship teaching and learning model by reflecting the opinions of experts and career teachers. To validate the redesigned teaching and learning model, a review was conducted with eight experts, and it was confirmed that the model was valid in all areas of validity, explanatory power, usefulness, universality, and understanding. In addition, in the usability evaluation conducted on 10 career teachers, the CVR value was 1.00 in all areas corresponding to usability, detailed procedure, and intention to use, confirming that the teaching and learning model was helpful in the progress of entrepreneurship classes. The final teaching and learning model was developed by reflecting the improvements that appeared in the expert validation and usability evaluation, and the name of the model was expressed as 'DIA' using the preceding letters of the entrepreneurial method consisting of steps such as Discover, Imagine, and Act. In addition, the name DIA simultaneously contains the meaning of education for students to learn how to discover their own diamonds in life. This study is meaningful in that it presented a specific entrepreneurship teaching and learning model applicable to career education and systematic model development and verification at the pedagogical level by incorporating model development research methods in the field of education into entrepreneurship education research.

  • The purposes of this study were to examine trends in Korean middle school students' attitudes toward science and the differences in boys' and girls' attitudes toward science as well as to analyze Korean middle school students' attitudes toward science compared to those in Singapore, Chinese-Taipei, Hong Kong, and Japan. In order to achieve these purposes, we analyzed students' survey data on self-confidence in science, interests in science, external motivation for science, and career preference for science collected from TIMSS 1995, TIMSS 1999, and TIMSS 2003. Korean students' interests in science and external motivation for science reduced in TIMSS 1999 and increased again in TIMSS 2003. The amount of change was greater in interests in science. On the other hand, self-confidence in science and career preference for science consistently declined from TIMSS 1995 to TIMSS 2003. Self-confidence in science among boys and girls was similar in TIMSS 1995 and 1999. But self-confidence of girls in science declined rapidly from TIMSS 1999 to 2003, while self-confidence of boys in science remained almost the same. Trends of interests in science were similar between boys and girls; they declined in TIMSS 1999 and increased again in TIMSS 2003. External motivation for science of both boys and girls increased, and the increase among girls was greater. The percentage of boys who wanted to have a job using science consistently declined from TIMSS 1999 to TIMSS 2003, while the percentage of girls declined in TIMSS 1999 and increased in TIMSS 2003 again. The results from an international comparison with other Asian countries having similar cultures showed that Korean students' self-confidence in science, career preference for science of middle school students was the lowest.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop and secure the human resources of SMEs by examining the causal relationship between job characteart-time job experience and career development of youth. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, 10,119 youths in the middle and high schools in Korea who participated in the panel data collection by the Korea Youth Policy Institute were surveyed from May 20 to July 12 in 2013, Panel data were used. The results of the study are as follows. First, it was found that the part-time job experience had a statistically significant effect on the planning, which is a sub-area of career development. Second, the part-time job experience has a statistically significant effect on attitude, a sub-domain of career development. Third, it was found that the part-time job experience had a statistically significant effect on the self knowledge, which is a sub-domain of career development. Fourth, it was shown that the part-time job experience had a statistically significant effect on career behavior, one of the sub-areas of career development. Fifth, it was found that the part-time experience characteristics had a statistically significant effect on the independence of sub-domains of career development. Therefore, since the part-time work of youth has a positive effect on career development, it is expected that the human resources of the future of SMEs will be secured if they create a place for career experience and job experience in connection with middle, high school and SMEs.
