The purpose of this study was to investigate the physical propertise and determine whether three were any differences in the amount of porosity of the denture base resins cured by microwave irradiation and conventional water bath heating. The resins used in this study were K-33 resin and Acron MC resin. The properties selected were transverse strength, Knoop hardness, and density. A ten-power eyepiece and scanning electron microscope(Magnification of ${\times}$ 30and ${\times}$150)were used to examine the specimens for porosity. Through analyses of the data from this study, the following conclusions were obtained. 1. Microwave energy can be effectively use dtopolymerize poly(methylmethacrylate) denture base resins. 2. In the transverse strength, K-33 resin cured by microwave irradiation was the first highest, water bath cured K-33 resin the second, microwave cured Acron MC resin the third, water bath cured Acron MC resin the fourth. 3. In the Knoop hardness, K-33 resin cured by microwave irradiation was the first hardest, water bath cured K-33 resin the second, water bath cured Acron MC resin the third, microwave cured Acron MC resin the the fourth. 4. No significant difference was found between the density of resin denture bases polymerized by either method. 5. K-33 resin showed the most porosity for the microwave curing. But there was no significant difference in the Acron MC resin and other curing method.
The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was any difference in the mean porosity of denture base resin cured by microwave energy, when the liquid monomers of denture resin(K-33 : methyl methacrylate for conventional water bath curing or Acron MC : special monomer for microwave curing) and/or the thicknesses of denture base($5{\times}10{\times}60mm\;or\;10{\times}10{\times}60mm$) were varied. The mean porosities of k-33 specimens cured in water bath with two different thicknesses were used as control. The results were as follows : 1. Regardless of specimen thickness, Acron MC cured by microwave energy showed the least mean porosity, followed by K-33 cured by water bath heat, and K-33 cured by microwave energy showed the highest level of mean porosity(P<0.05). 2. In both K-33 and Acron MC cured by microwave energy the mean porosities of 5mm thickness groups were lower than those of 10mm thickness groups(P<0.05). But no significant difference was found in mean porosity between 5mm thickness and 10mm thickness of water bath heat cured groups made of K-33(P>0.05).
Spin-coated waterborne polyurethane to protect glass surface from environmental attacks was cured by using microwave heating. The effect of microwave heating on the reaction kinetics, chemical durability, and transmittance of polyurethane was investigated. In comparison to the conventional heating the results show that the microwave heating substantially accelerates the curing process of waterborne polyurethane and the total time for the completion of the reaction is only 1/7 of that in the conventional process. The microwave cured sample showed an excellent caustic resistance compared to conventional cured one. It means that microwave heating produces dense structure during curing process. The dense structure does not affect to the transmittance in the visible region.

Intending to develop a new rubber curing process using only microwave, the both the characteristics of cure and the mechanical properties of rubbers for the tire tread, for which a green styrene-butadiene compounds had been cured with 2.45 GHz microwave, have been compared with those of the custom thermal cured rubber. The unintentional hot spot formation in the compound during the microwave curing has not found where the compound has a microwave absorbing ceramic powders in 4.18 weight percents and the supplying voltage has been adjusted to 90 volts. The new microwave process accomplished preheating to 418K in a quarter of the thermal cure time. The average tensile strength of the microwave-cured rubber indicating $190kg/cm^3$ was compatible to that of the thermal cure. In conclusion, the new microwave cure had approved to be applicable in a commercial plant.
Whole, peeled sweetpotatoes were subjected to four different processes: 15 min microwave heating followed by 15 min baking (1), 90 min baking (2), 15 min microwave heating (3), and 15 min boiling followed by 15 min microwave heating (4). Samples of green and cured roots were used in the study. Scanning electron photomicrographs revealed that cured roots contained larger numbers of starch granules in the parenchyma cells than green roots, most of them compounded. The starch in cooked green roots was gelatinized while for cured roots it was mostly hydrolyzed into dextrins and sugars. Starch in process (3) roots was mostly gelatinized while in process (1) and process (2) roots gelatinized starch appeared in little quantity, thus it was primarily converted to dextrins and sugars. The process (4) resulted in little conversion of starch. The process (1) product resulted in a similar product to the process (2) product.

The purpose of this study was to research the property change of acrylic resins depending on the induced-beam change and research the improved physical property of dry-heat and microwave-cured dental place acrylic resin in order to develop the acrylic resins with the optimum characteristic. As a result of observing flexural rigidity, hardness and color difference, the dry-heat-cured specimens of Vertex RS and Paladent 20 showed ideal property at 5, 15, and 25 kGy irradiation. The microwave-cured specimens of Vertex RS and Paladent 20 showed ideal property at 5 kGy irradiation. The correlation analysis showed a positive correlation among ARD, flexural rigidity (0 418), E coefficient (0.675) and Barcol hardness (0 588). The radiation cure technology is helpful for relieving the contamination caused by the manufacture of polymer composite. It can significantly contribute to the fusion of ultra violet cure technology and nano technology and the improvement of mechanical property without giving effect to the workability of polymer.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the dimensional changes and surface morphology of dentures processed by various polymerization conditions. The measurements were done by taking radiograph and using vernier calipers and each specimen was observed on scanning electron microscope. Results obtained were as follows. 1. The difference of dimensional stability was not recognized between various polymerization conditions(heat-cured resin, pour-type resin, microwave-cured resin, and injection molding resin). 2. There were expansion and shrinkage in the occlusal dimension, shrinkage in the frontal dimension, and expansion in the lateral dimension. 3. Scanning electron microscope pictures of heat-cured resin showed dense and regular surface morphology. 4. Microwave-cured resin surface appeared more regular and smooth than pour-type resin but less dense and more irregular than heat-cured resin. 5. Scanning electron microscope pictures of pour-type resin with the lowest dimensional change showed the most irregular surface morphology.

Technologies for rapid concrete curing using elevated temperature are important for saving cost and time when constricting concrete structures. Recently, a microwave heating form was developed. In this study the early strength of concrete cured by the developed form was experimentally investigated. Large scale mock up tests were conducted six times, and the results were analyzed based on the maturity theory. Logarithmic correlation curves were generated based on the measured strength and estimated maturity. It was confirmed that the strength development of the concrete cured by microwave heating form can be estimated by the equivalent age theory usually applied to steam-curing technology. By using the microwave heating form, one day at most is enough to get the required strength for the safe removal of forms, even in cold weather.
Time dependent model for prediction of compressive strength development of concrete cured by microwave heating form was presented in this study. The presented model is similar to the equation which is given in ACI 209R-92 but the constants which is dependent on cement type and curing method in the presented model are modified by the regression analysis of the experimental data. Laboratory scale concrete specimens were cast and cured by the microwave heating form and drilled cores extracted from the specimens were fractured in compression. The measured core strengths are converted to standard core and in-situ strengths. These in-situ strengths are used for the regression.

In this research work attempts were made to study the bonding of thermo-plastics with adhesives using solar radiation. In order to study the curing behaviour necessary experiments were conducted under varying conditions of temperature, exposure time and power of solar energy. The cured samples were then studied under the optical microscope before subjecting to tensile testing in order to study their mechanical properties of thermo-plastics. The fracture surfaces were further studied under the Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM) in order to research the microstructural changes that are taken place during curing. In order to measure the performance of solar energy cured joints the parameters such as; bond strength, surface morphology, the microstructual changes, variation in properties of adhesives bonded joints are compared to that of specimen cured at ambient conditions and specimen cured using microwave techniques.
