Detection of Bio-chemical by Boron-doped Diamond Electrode (붕소가 도핑된 다이아몬드 전극을 이용한 생계화학물질의 검출)

  • Selective, highly stable determination of epinephrine(adrenalin) was achieved in cyclic voltammetric measurement carried out at electrochemically treated conductive boron-doped diamond electrode. Boron-doped diamond electrodes were prepared on single crystal Si wafers by microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition and B$_2$O$_3$ was dissolved in acetone/methanol(1:1) mixture solution so that the B/C weight ratio ca. 10$^3$ppm.. Epinephrine is a kind of catecholamines, which secreted from adrenal marrow cells. The serious problem to detection of epinephrine is the interference phenomena of electroactive constituent, including AA. In this study, electrochemical treatment of BDD was carried out to discriminate between epinephrine and AA responses. Experimental results showed that the peak potential of AA oxidation shift to the positive direction and the oxidation peak of epinephrine was unchanged. The effect of electrochemical treatment was maintained up to 40hrs.

A Study on the Surface Polishing of Diamond Thin Films by Thermal Diffusion (열확산에 의한 다이아몬드 박막의 표면연마에 관한 연구)

  • The crystal grains of polycrystalline diamond vary depending on deposition conditions and growth thickness. The diamond thin film deposited by the CVD method has a very rough growth surface. On average, the surface roughness of a diamond thin film deposited by CVD is in the range of 1-100 um. However, the high surface roughness of diamond is unsuitable for application in industrial applications, so the surface roughness must be lowered. As the surface roughness decreases, the scattering of incident light is reduced, the heat conduction is improved, the mechanical surface friction coefficient can be lowered, and the transmittance can also be improved. In addition, diamond-coated cutting tools have the advantage of enabling ultra-precise machining. In this study, the surface roughness of diamond was improved by thermal diffusion reaction between diamond carbon atoms and ferrous metals at high temperature for diamond thin films deposited by MPCVD.

Effects of heat treatment on storage of packaged Tofu (포장두부의 저장성에 미치는 열처리 효과)

  • The effect of heat treatments (boiling or microwave heating) on packaged Tofu was investigated by microbial and physicochemical changes during its storage in order to improve the shelf-life. The shelf-life of the packaged Tofu prepared by acetic acid was found better than that prepared by calcium chloride. As the spoilage of Tofu developed, titratable acidity, amino and ammonia nitrogen contents, and optical density of packaged Tofu suspension were increased. Heat treatment of fresh Tofu in package was effective in lowering the bacterial counts, and extending shelf-life, but there was no significant difference between heating methods. Packaged Tofu prepared from acetic acid and pretreated by heating for 3 minutes kept the shelf-life of 4 days at $30^{\circ}C$, but that without heat treatment spoiled at one day.

  • There are many factors to evoke pain, for example cold, heat, seven emotion, digestion, fatigue, venemous worms, deficiency of blood etc., and its pathogenesis is complicated. Treatments for pain in oriental medicine are as follows. 1. Pharmacotherapy is a method to treat pain by different effects of herbal medicine, for example, regulating vital energy, activating blood circulation, eliminating phlegm, and dispelling the cold evil etc. 2. Acupuncture and moxibustion therapy is a kind of external application, it has a distinct effect in relieving pain. Recently its operation method has been more developed, so new acupuncture therapies are used in clinics. There are electroacupuncture, auricular acupuncture and injection of drugs at an acupuncture points etc. 3. Oriental physiotherapy is a treatment method to stimulate acupuncture points and meridians. (1) Hot pack, Paraffin bath, Microwave, Ultrasound, Short wave, Infra-red etc. are used to treat cold syndrome by dispersing cold by warming the channels. (2) E.S.T., I.C.T., T.E.N.S., S.S.P., cupping treatment etc. are used to treat disorders of vital energy. (3) Health ion, Carbon, T.D.P., etc are used to treat conic and deficiency syndrome.

  • In this case report, I discussed the diagnosis and treatment of two pregnant women with temporomandibular disorders(TMD) who visited the Department of Oral Medicine, PNUH. Also, I reviewed some investigations of diagnosis and treatment of TMD in pregnant women. The obtained results were as follows; 1. No single X-ray diagnostic procedure for TMD results in radiation dose that threatens the well-being of the developing embryo and fetus. 2. Most non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIDs) have commonly used because these drugs are considered to be nonteratogenic, but these agents are not recommended for routine use after 3rd trimester. 3. Electro-acupuncture stimulation therapy(EAST) is contraindicated for 1st trimester, and ultrasonic deep heat therapy, microwave deep heat therapy, low level laser therapy, myo-monitor are not contraindicated for pregnant women but clinician must consider some risk of adverse fetal effects. 4. The occlusal stabilization splint may be used for pregnant women, if it is fabricated indirectly. 5. Surgical treatment is contraindicated for pregnant women.

Evaluation of dose received by workers while repairing a failed spent resin mixture treatment device

  • Intermediate-level radioactive waste (ILW) is not subject to legal approval for cave disposal in Korea. To solve this problem, a spent resin treatment device that separates 14C-containing resin from zeolite/activated carbon and desorbs 14C through a microwave device has been developed. In this study, we evaluated the radiological safety of the operators performing repair work in the event of a failure in such a device treating 1 ton of spent resin mixture per day. Based on the safety evaluation results, it is possible to formulate a design plan that can ensure the safety of workers while developing a commercialized device. When each component of the resin treatment device can be repaired from the outside, the maximum and minimum allowable repair times are calculated as 263.2 h and 27.7 h for the 14C-detached resin storage tank and zeolite/activated carbon storage tank, respectively. For at least 6 h per quarter, the worker's annual dose limit remains within 50 mSv/year; further, over 5 years, it remained within 100 mSv. At least 6 h of repair time per quarter is considered, under conservative conditions, to verify the radiological safety of the worker during repair work within that time.

Preparation of the SiO2 Films with Low-Dit by Low Temperature Oxidation Process (저온 산화공정에 의해 낮은 Dit를 갖는 실리콘 산화막의 제조)

  • In this work, the $SiO_2$ films on the silicon substrate with different orientations were first prepared by the low temperature process using the ECR plasma diffusion as a function of microwave power and oxidation time. Before and after thermal treatment, the surface morphology, Si/O ratio from physicochemical properties, and the electrical properties of the oxide films were also investigated. The oxidation rate increased with microwave power, while surface morphology showed the nonuniform due to etching. The film quality, therefore, was lowered with increasing the defect by etching and the content of positive oxide ions in the oxide films from bulk by higher self-DC bias. The content of positive oxide ions in the oxide films with different Si orientations showed Si(100) < Si(111) < poly Si. The defects in $Si/SiO_2$ interface of $SiO_2$ film could be decreased by annealing, while $Q_{it}$ and $Q_f$ were independent of thermal treatment and the dependent on concentration of reactive oxide ions and self-DC bias of substrate. At microwave power of 300, and 400 W, the high quality $SiO_2$ film that had lower surface roughness and defect in $Si/SiO_2$ interface was obtained. The value of interface trap density, then, was ${\sim}9{\times}10^{10}cm^{-2}eV^{-1}$.

  • The $12CaO{\cdot}7Al_2O_3$(C12A7) powders were successfully synthesized using combustion method with microwave-assistant and C12A7:H were fabricated by post-annealed process in Ar/H atmosphere. X-ray diffraction patterns and TGDSC were used for investigating to the precursors of crystalline and reaction depending on temperature. C12A7:H that was treated post-annealed process were investigated TG-MS and Hall-measurement for confirming H ions doping and checking electrical resistivity of C12A7:H. H ion substituted to $O^{2-}$ ions in the C12A7 cages were confirmed at $289.5^{\circ}C$ by TG-MS and C12A7:H calcined at $1000^{\circ}C$ in Ar/H=8:2 atmosphere for 8~10 h has low electrical resistivity about $10^2{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ at room temperature.

Clinical and Electromyographic Study of the Effects of Ultrasonic Wave and Microwave Diathermy Treatment on the Craniomandibular Disorder Patients (두개하악장애 환자에 대한 초음파와 극초단파 심부투열치료 효과의 임상 및 근전도학적 연구)

  • This study was performed to observe the effect of micro-wave diathermy and ultrasonic-wave diathermy on the craniomandibular disorder patients. 19 patients were classified into 12 acute and 7 chronic groups according to the duration of 6 months. They were treated with micro-wave diathermy and ultrasonic-wave diathermy for 2 weeks and pain, maximum comfortable opening, active range of motion were checked before and after therapy. Electromyographic activities of temporal and masseter muscles were also measured at physiologic rest position, clenching and mastication before and after therapy. The obtained results were as follows : 1. After treatment, pain were reduced and active range of motion and maximum comfortable opening were increased. 2. Temporoal and masseter muscle activities of post-treatment in rest position, clenching and mastication were lower than those of pre-treatment. 3. In rest position, temporal and masseter muscle activities of pre-treatment on affected sides were higher than those on unaffected sides, but there were no differences in muscle activities between affected ad unaffected sides on clenching and mastication in pre and post-treatment respectively. 4. There were no significant differences in active range of motion, pain and maximum comfortable opening between acute and chronic groups in pre and post-treatment but there were significant differences between pre-treatment and post-treatment in acute and chronic groups respectively. 5. Muscle activities of masseter and temporal muscles in acute and chronic patients were reduced in rest position after treatment.

Extraction of Quercetin and Its Glucosides from Onion Edible Part Using Solvent Extraction and Various Extraction Assisting Methods (용매 추출과 병용 추출법을 이용한 양파 과육으로부터 quercetin 관련물질의 추출)

  • Quercetin is one of the main flavonoids from onion. To use quercetin as a functional component for onion food products, the effects of various extraction assisting methods such as juicing methods, microwave, ultrasound and enzyme treatments on the yield of quercetin and its glucosides were investigated. For conventional solvent extraction, the highest yield of quercetin and its glycosides was achieved with 0.8 mL/g of 60% methanol at 50$^{\circ}C$ for 15 min. The juicing methods using mixer and screw showed no influence on the yield. Microwave and ultrasound treatments showed 2.14 times and 2.06 times more quercetin yields than non-treated extraction, respectively. For cellulase and viscozyme treatments, the highest yields of quercetin were achieved with 0.5 mL/g of 1% enzyme-0.1M sodium acetate (pH 5.2) buffer solution. Cellulase and viscozyme treatment improved quercetin yield 1.65 times and 2.29 times more than non-treated one, respectively.
