Fast neutrons with a broad energy spectrum, with which it is possible to evaluate nuclear data for various research fields such as medical applications and the development of fusion reactors, can be generated by irradiating proton beams on target materials such as beryllium. To generate short-pulse proton beam, we adopted a deflector and slit system. In a simple deflector with slit system, most of the proton beam is blocked by the slit, especially when the beam pulse width is short. Therefore, the available beam current is very low, which results in low neutron flux. In this study, we proposed beam modulation using a buncher cavity to increase the available beam current. The ideal field pattern for the buncher cavity is sawtooth. To make the field pattern similar to a sawtooth waveform, a multiharmonic buncher was adopted. The design process for the multiharmonic buncher includes a beam dynamics calculation and three-dimensional electromagnetic simulation. In addition to the system design for pulsed proton generation, a test bench with a microwave ion source is under preparation to test the performance of the system. The design study results concerning the pulsed proton beam generation and the test bench preparation with some preliminary test results are presented in this paper.

In this paper, a simple but fast and reliable technique for the complex dielectric constant measurement of non-magnetic materials is introduced using a measured transmission coefficient (S21) and a genetic algorithm as an inversion process at microwave frequencies. In this experiment, it has been found that the transmission method is less susceptible with the measurement errors than that of the reflection method and the genetic algorithm can be efficiently used as a search technique. The suggested technique is validated with known and unknown conductor-loaded lossy materials and the conductor-loaded PCB at X-band.

A 94-GHz phased array antenna using a log-periodic antenna has been developed on a GaAs substrate. The developed phased array antenna comprises four log-periodic antennas, a phase shifter, and a Wilkinson power divider. This antenna was fabricated using the standard microwave monolithic integrated circuit (MMIC) process including an air bridge for unipolar circuit implementations on the same GaAs substrate. The total chip size of the fabricated phased array antenna is 4.8 mm × 4.5 mm. Measurement results showed that the fabricated phased array antenna had a very wide band performance from 80 GHz to 110 GHz with return loss characteristics better than -10 dB. In the center frequency of 94 GHz, the fabricated phased array antenna showed a return loss of -16 dB and a gain of 4.43 dBi. The developed antenna is expected to be widely applied in many applications at W-band frequency.
In this study, we synthesized CNTs(carbon nanotubes) on the glass substrate by microwave plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (MPECVD), Effect of bias voltage on the grown behavior and morphology of CNTs were investigated. Recently, it has been proposed that aligned CNTs can also be achieved by the application of electric bias to the substrate during growth, the first time reported the bias effect such that the nanotube alignment occurred only when a positive bias was applied to the substrate whereas no aligned growth occurred under a negative bias and no tube growth was observed without bias. On the country, several researchers reported some different observations that aligned nanotubes could also be grown under negative substrate biases. This discrepancy as for the effect of positive and negative bias may indicate that the bias effect is not fully understood yet. The glass and Si wafers were first deposited with TiN buffer layer by r.f sputtering method, and then Ni catalyst same method, The thickness of TiN and Ni layer were 200 nm and 60 nm, respectively. The main process parameters include the substrate bias (0 to - 300 V), and deposition pressure (8 to 20 torr).
This study investigated an efficient method for the extraction of astaxanthin from the red yeast Xanthophyllomyces dendrorhous. The extraction process comprised three steps: 1) cultivating the yeast; 2) treating the yeast culture suspension with microwaves to destroy the cell walls and microbodies; and 3) drying the yeast and extracting the astaxanthin pigment using ethanol, methanol, acetone, or a mixture of the three as the extraction solvent. Ultimately, various treatment tests were performed to determine the conditions for optimal pigment extraction, and the total carotenoid and astaxanthin contents were quantified. A frequency of 2,450 MHz, an output of 500 watts, and irradiation time of 60 s were the most optimum conditions for yeast cell wall destruction. Furthermore, optimal pigment extraction occurred when using a cell density of 10g/l at $30^{\circ}C$ over 24 h, with a 10% volume of ethanol.
The Korean Solar Radio Burst Locator (KSRBL) is a solar radio spectrograph observing the broad frequency range from 0.245 to 18 GHz with the capability of locating wideband gyrosynchrotron bursts. Due to the characteristics of a spiral feed, the beam center varies in a spiral pattern with frequency, making a modulation pattern over the wideband spectrum. After a calibration process, we obtained dynamic spectra consistent with the Nobeyama Radio Polarimeter (NoRP). We compared and analyzed the locations of bursts observed by KSRBL with results from the Nobeyama Radioheliograph (NoRH) and Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA). As a result, we found that the KSRBL provides the ability to locate flaring sources on the Sun within around 2'.

Modern integrated circuits (ICs) are becoming an integrated parts of analog, digital, and radio frequency (RF) circuits. Testing these RF circuits on a chip is an important task, not only for fabrication quality control but also for tuning RF circuit elements to fit multi-standard wireless systems. In this paper, RF test circuits suitable for embedded testing are introduced: RF power detectors, power control circuits, directional couplers, and six-port reflectometers. Various types of embedded RF power detectors are reviewed. The conventional approach and our approach for the RF power control circuits are compared. Also, embedded tunable active directional couplers are presented. Then, six-port reflectometers for embedded RF testing are introduced including a 77-GHz six-port reflectometer circuit in a 130 nm process. This circuit demonstrates successful calibrated reflection coefficient simulation results for 37 well distributed samples in a Smith chart. The details including the theory, calibration, circuit design techniques, and simulations of the 77-GHz six-port reflectometer are presented in this paper.

Radio frequency and microwave dielectric heating are well-known electroheating methods, used in industrial applications where non electrically conducting materials are to be heated, dried or otherwise processed. The major reason for considering this technique for any process is based on its unique ability to transfer heat into the volume of an electrically non conducting material such as insulator directly, rather than, via a surface. Conventional heating must first bring heat to the product surface and there after it depends on the physical characteristics and condition of the material as to how effectively this heat is transmitted into the mass. The product would suffer surface damage before the main body is adequately processed. Dielectric heating is applied to enhance conventional heating methods and to drastically shorten the required processing duration. Although the use of dielectric heating has been a well proven technique for several years in some industries, its application in the preheating of FRP has been limited by the insufficient experience. In this paper a method is described for uniform radio frequency heating of preheating of FRP.

Multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) algorithms play an important role in ensuring quality of service in an integrated HetNets (Heterogeneous Networks). The primary objective of this paper is to develop a multi-criteria vertical handoff decision algorithm (VHDA) for best access network selection in an integrated Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN)/Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS)/Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) system. The proposed design consists of two parts, the first part is the evaluation of an Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to decide the relative weights of handoff decision criteria and the second part computes the final score of the weights to rank network alternatives using Simple Additive Weighting (SAW). SAW ranks the network alternatives in a faster and simpler manner than AHP. The AHP-SAW mathematical model has been designed, evaluated and simulated for streaming video type of traffic. For other traffic type, such as conversational, background and interactive, only simulation results have been discussed and presented in brief. Simulation results reveal that the hierarchical modelling and computing provides optimum solution for access network selection in an integrated environment as obtained results prove to be an acceptable solution to what could be expected in real life scenarios.
Soil moisture content is generally accepted as an important factor to understand the process of crop growth and is the basis of earth system models for analysis and prediction of the crop condition. To continuously monitor soil moisture changes at kilometer scale, it is demanded to create high resolution data from the current, several tens of kilometers. In this paper we described a downscaling method for Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 (AMSR2) Soil Moisture Content (SMC) from 10 km to 30 m resolution using a soil texture and field measurements that have a high correlation with the SMC. As a result, the soil moisture variations of both data (before and after downscaling) were identical, and the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of SMC exhibited the low values. Also, time series analyses showed that three kinds of SMC data (field measurement, original AMSR2, and downscaled AMSR2) had very similar temporal variations. Our method can be applied to downscaling of other soil variables and can contribute to monitoring small-scale changes of soil moisture by providing high resolution data.
