  • Finite element analysis model is suggested for analysis of milli-forming process, which forms milli-size products. Since the size of workpiece in a milli-forming process ranges from a few hundred micrometers to a few millimeters, microstructural changes such as the growth of micro-voids and the development of preferred orientation in a grain become crucial factors for the success of milli-forming. This analysis model incorporates anisotropy from deformation torture and deterioration of mechanical properties due to the growth of micro-voids. Applications of the proposed modeling to milli-forming are given and the results are carefully examined to understand the deformation characteristics such as texture development and damage evolution during extrusion/drawing of a milli-bar.

  • The deformation behavior of copper during equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) was calculated using a three-dimensional version of a constitutive model based on the dislocation density evolution. Finite element simulations of the variation of the dislocation density and the dislocation cell size with the number of ECAP passes are reported. The calculated stress, strain and cell size are compared with the experimental data for Cu deformed by ECAP in a modified Route C regime. The results of FEM analysis were found to be in good agreement with the experiments. After a rapid initial decrease down to about 200 nm in the first ECAP pass, the average cell size was found to change little with further passes. Similarly, the strength increased steeply after the first pass, but tended to saturate with further pressings. The FEM simulations also showed strain non-uniformities and the dependence of the resulting strength on the location within the workpiece.

  • Creep behaviors of Cr3C2 composites containing 90 wt% Cr3C2 and 10 wt% Ni were studied at high temperature. Compression tests at 100$0^{\circ}C$ and bending tests at 100$0^{\circ}C$ and 105$0^{\circ}C$ were done in argon environment. In all test conditions primary and steady-state creep behaviors were observed. Stress exponent and activatiion energy were determined from the experimental data. By microstructural analysis of Cr3C2 composites after creep test, the separate agglomerations of Ni phase were observed. Numerical analysis was also studied to analyze bending creep behaviors of Cr3C2 by assumming different tensile and compressive creep behavior in a bending sample. From the analysis, it was found that the stress state at the compressive region as applied stress increased. The observed creep rates were compared with the predicted creep rates by estimating power-law creep parameters from bending test data.

  • In vehicle's door wiring harness (W/H) system is more toward to arrange a passenger compartment than a hinge and a weatherstrip. An opening/closing member of a vehicle is attached to a vehicle by a hinge in a manner enabling easy opening and closing of the opening/closing member. Such members include doors, such as side-doors and rear doors, and other opening/closing members, such as trunk lids. This article gives some insight into the dimensioning process, with special focus on large deflection analysis of wiring harness(W/H) in vehicle's door structures for durability problem. The Finite elements analysis for door wiring harness(W/H) is used for residual stresses and dimensional stability with bending flexible. Durability test data for slam test specimens were compared with the numerical predicted fatigue life for verification. The final testing of the component combines the effects of these microstructural features with the complex stress state arising from the combined service loading and residual stresses.

  • Metallic matrix composites reinforced with carbon nanomaterials continue to attract interest because of their excellent mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties. However, two critical issues have limited their commercialization. Uniform distribution of carbon nanomaterials in metallic matrices is difficult, and the interfaces between the nanomaterials and matrices are weak. Microscope-based analysis was recently used to quantitatively examine these microstructural features and investigate their contributions to the composites' mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties. The impacts of the microstructure on these properties are discussed in the first section of this review. In the second section, the various microscopic techniques used to study the distribution of carbon nanomaterials in metallic matrices and their interfaces are described.

  • The aim of this work was to determine the behavior of alloy elements and compounds formed during solidification in the manufacturing process of the CuAgZrCr alloy under an oxidizing environment. Bulk and surface analysis techniques, such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Raman and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to characterize the phases obtained in the solidification process. In order to focus the analysis on the on grain boundary interface, partial removal of the matrix phase by acid attack was performed. The compositional differences obtained by SEM-EDX, Raman and XPS on post-manufacturing materials allowed us to conclude that the composition of grain boundaries of the alloy is directly influenced by the oxidizing environment of alloy manufacturing.

  • In this paper, a microscopic analysis of prefinitelv strained cement paste specimen was carried out. The microscopic behavior of concrete under triaxial stress must be fully understood in order to explain the additional ductilitv that comes from lateral confinement and to get microstructural information in large deformed and large strained concrete. The so-called "tube-squash" test was applied to achieve enormously high shear and deviatoric strain of concrete under extremly high pressure without fracture. Then, microscopic analyses by focusing on hydration and microstructure of Prefinitely strained cement paste were carried out on cored-out deformed and virgin (undeformed) cement paste specimens : the first specimen being 40 days old, the second one being one year old. The microscopic analysis bv Field Emission Scanning Electronic Microscope (FESEM) was carried out for comparison between the specimens after 40 days and those arter one year. For one year old specimens, X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD) analysis, Energy Dispersive x-rav Spectrometer (EDS) analysis, and Differential Thermal Analysis/Thermo-Gravitv (DTA/TG) analysis were also carried out to study the hydration and the microstructures of prefinitely strained cement paste specimen by focusing on the methodologies of their microscopic analyses. analyses.

  • In this study, three cold-rolled TRIP steels containing different Al content (0.04wt%, 1.0 wt.% and 2.00wt%) were fabricated to understand the complex effects of Al in TRIP steel. The influences of Al on microstructural evolution of cold-rolled TRIP steels have been analyzed by using advanced analysis techniques, such as transmission electron microscope (TEM) and three dimensional atom probe tomography (3D-APT). TEM results revealed that second phases such as bainte and retained austenite decrease with increase of Al content. In addition, 3D-APT was used to characterize atomic-scale distribution of alloying elements at the constituent phases. Through these analysis techniques, the advanced characteristics of constituent microstructure in TRIP steels were identified depending on Al contents in TRIP steels.

  • In this paper, we present an ultrasonic velocity and attenuation measurement system. There are many ultrasonic measurement methods that are used in nondestructive testing applications. They include material property determination, microstructural characterization, and flaw detection. Ultrasonic parameters such as velocity and attenuation are most commonly used in them. Advanced signal analysis which is called "ime-frequency analysis"has been used widely in nondestructive evaluation applications. Wavelet transform is the most advanced technique for processing signals with time-varying spectra. Using the echo waveform gathered by the designed hardware system, we performed simulation of the signal processing algorithms. Then the algorithm is implemented on the system.
