  • In this paper, newly proposed dual-band microstrip antennas using stacked inverted-L-shaped parasitic elements are presented for GPS $L_1(1.575GHz)$ and $L_2(1.227GHz)$ bands. For making dual band which has large interval, ${\lambda}/4$($L_1$ band) inverted-L-shaped parasitic elements were stacked at both side of radiation apertures on the half-wavelength($L_2$ band) patch antennas. The resonance in the parasitic elements occurs through coupling to the patch. Next, due to using circular polarization at GPS, ${\lambda}/4$($L_1$ band) inverted-L-shaped parasitic elements was stacked using sequential rotation technique on the patch and both side of the diagonal corners of the antenna were eliminated to make dual-band circular polarization. The designed circular polarized antenna's dimensions are $0.43{\lambda}L{\times}0.43{\lambda}L{\times}0.06{\lambda}L$ (${\lambda}L$ is the free-space wavelength at 1.227 GHz). Measured -10 dB bandwidths was 120 MHz(7.6%) and 82.5 MHz(6.7%) at GPS $L_1$ and $L_2$ bands. and 3 dB axial ration bandwidths are 172 MHz(10.9%) and 25 MHz(2.03%), respectively. All of these cover the respective required system bandwidths. Within each of the designed bands, broadside radiation patterns were observed.

  • In this paper, miniaturized ${\lambda}/4$ folded microstrip antennas is presented for parking monitoring base station system. The proposed antenna reduced a width of the radiating element for miniaturizing a size and we changed an aperture such as folded shape for reducing a length of the antenna by the pertubation effect by reducing a width of the antenna. Finally, the ${\lambda}/2$ length of the folded microstrip antenna to ${\lambda}/4$ folded microstrip antenna was miniaturized by reducing the length. The proposed antenna was designed to receive 425 MHz of center frequency that can be used without permission. Dimensions are $134mm{\times}143.85mm{\times}20.1mm$($0.19{\lambda}{\times}0.2{\lambda}{\times}0.028{\lambda}$, ${\lambda}$ is wavelength at 425 MHz) that are compared with basic microstrip patch antenna miniaturized 97.2%. Also, Measured -10 dB bandwidth was 2.44 MHz(0.57%). On the other hand, measured radiation patterns was 1.82 dBi at E-plane $15^{\circ}$.

  • This paper presents a closely spaced two-element folded-dipole-driven quasi-Yagi array with low mutual coupling between adjacent elements. The antenna utilizes a T-junction power divider as the feeding network, with an input impedance of $50{\Omega}$. A microstrip-stub is added to the ground plane in the middle of the two elements to improve the mutual coupling characteristics. The folded dipole driver is connected to a $50{\Omega}$ microstrip line via a broadband microstrip-to-coplanar stripline transition with a quarter radial stub. A mutual coupling of less than -22 dB is measured between two folded-dipole-driven quasi-Yagi antennas with a center-to-center spacing of 30 mm ($0.55{\lambda}_0$ at 5.5 GHz). The proposed quasi-Yagi array yields a measured bandwidth of 4.75~6.43 GHz for the -10 dB reflection coefficient and a gain of 6.14~7.12 dBi within the bandwidth range.

  • A $Y_1Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta}$ square spiral microstrip antenna (YBCO antenna) was epitaxially grown on a $LaAlO_3$ substrate by laser ablation. Also fabricated was a gold square spiral microstrip antenna (gold antenna) having the same structure as that of the YBCO antenna in order to compare the properties of both antennas. Both the YBCO antenna and the gold antenna were operated in Ku (12-18 GHz) band, and their properties such as the return loss, SWR, power gain, and radiation patterns were investigated at 77 K. The return loss below -10 dB was obtained in two frequency ranges, i.e., 14.05-14.90 GHz, and 16-18 GHz for the YBCO antenna at 77 K (YBCO superconducting antenna), and in the frequency range of 15.05-17.60 GHz for the gold antenna at 77 K. The SWR bandwidths are 0.85 GHz and 2 GHz for the YBCO superconducting antenna, and 2.55 GHz for the gold antenna at 77 K. The gain improvement of the superconducting YBCO antenna over the gold antenna at 77 K was about 10 dB in the frequency range of 16 GHz to 18 GHz. The radiation patterns show the YBCO superconducting antenna has the omni-directional property of a spiral antenna.

  • Microstrip antennas are low profile, are conformable to planar and nonplanar surfaces, are simple and inexpensive to manufacture, mechanically robust when mounted on rigid surfaces and are compatible with MMIC(Monolithic microwave integrated circuit) designs; they have been used in diverse communication systems. The rectangular microstrip patch antenna is designed for a central frequency of 12.5 GHz, and the final product is a $4{\times}1$ array antenna with curvature radius of 200 mm. The microstrip antenna is embedded in a sandwich structure which consists of skin and core material. After impact, the performance of damaged antenna is estimated by measuring the return loss and radiation pattern. The antenna performance was not affected by this impact damage.

  • In this paper, applying the REC model which characterizes the coupling between the radiating edges to two coupled rectangular microstrip patch antenna, we obtain scattering parameters $\mid$ $S_{11}$ $\mid$ and $\mid$ $S_{12}$ $\mid$for the various coupling separations, Se=0.5mm, 1.0mm, 1.5mm, and 2.0mm, The calculated values are compared with the measured values. For the rectangular microstrip patch antenna with a parasitic element which is gap-coupled to the radiating edges of the rectangular patch, calculated return losses using the REC model are compared with measrued values. Here, the each microstrip antenna is fed by a 50 microstrip line. The purpose of the paper is to compare a 50$\Omega$ microstrip line fed case with a coaxial fed case treated in Ref.

  • In this paper, a single-feed equilateral-triangular microstrip antenna with truncated corners is used for achieving diverse radiation polarization. The proposed antenna is excited by a microstrip line, which is place parallel to an oblique side of the equilateral-triangular patch. Depending on whether the three identically-sized comers of the triangular patch are cut or not, the equilateral-triangular microstrip antenna shows linear polarization(LP) or left-hand circular polarization(LHCP) or Tight-hand circular polarization(RHCP). Based on the equilateral-triangular microstrip antenna with truncated corners, a novel reconfigurable microstrip antenna with switchable polarization sense is also proposed. The proposed reconfigurable antenna has a simple structure, consisting of a corner-truncated triangular patch, a small triangular conductor, and a microstrip line. Using a biased PIN diode between the patch and the small triangular conductor, it can produce LP or RHCP according to bias voltages. From the measured results, low cross polarization level when operated in the linear state and good axial ratio in the circular state are observed.

  • A compact circular microstrip patch antenna with a switchable circular polarization(CP) is proposed at 2.4 GHz. An unequal cross-shaped slot on a ground plane is utilized as a perturbation. By switching pin diodes mounted on the slot, the CP sense of each antenna can be simply switched from left-handed(LH) CP to right-handed(RH) CP vice versa. Since the perturbation can be made on the ground plane and no bias circuit is required on the patch side, the bias circuit has not effect on the main beam radiation. From the experimental results, the impedance bandwidth and CP bandwidth of the proposed antenna have shown up to 150 MHz and 35 MHz, respectively. The peak gain of the proposed antenna is 1.7 dBi for both CP senses.

  • In this paper, an analysis and design method is proposed, which is to improve the directivity of microstrip array antennas conformed to a cylindrical surface. In the case of forming an arc-array in the circumferential direction on a circula-cylinder surface, the circular-cylinder can be approximated to a polygonal-pillar and on each pillar-planes the sub-arrays, Dolph-Tschebyscheff array and uniform array with a beam steered in the desired direction, would make a sharp directivity for the total cylin- drical array antenna. And the radiation pattern according to the type of its sub arrays is analyzed and compared using the cylindrical-cavity codel. A cylindrical microstrip array antenna, with 12 elements and uniform arra as a sub-array which have an equal distance$\lambda_0$/2between the elements, is manufactured and conformed to a cylinder with radius of 6 The measured data of side lobe level, HPBW and FNBW are - 13dB, $9^{\circ}$, and $15{\circ}$, ,respectively. This result shows a good improvement on the directivity comparing with a linear array.
