  • This paper presents microprocessor-based real-time speed and position detection by inductive radio loop in new transportation system, such as magnetically levitated train system, rubber tyred train, and linear-motor car. The constant elapsed time method is used in this study for high accurate detection over a wide speed range. And for reliability and safety of the system, it is duplicated and data-bus level comparison is performed by fail-safe comparator.

  • In this paper, we implement a portable bioelectric signal measurement system for the safety of industrial workers. The developed system consists of two parts: the one is boielectric signal measurement unit and the other is signal analyzer system with PDA. The former includes signal processing part, A/D convertor, and 8051 based microprocessor, the latter includes software for signal analysis and display. The developed system detects industrial worker's ECG and displays and stores it to PDA. The ECG data in PDA can be transmitted to PC located in a distance, allowing a doctor to review the ECG and make a treatment decision. A doctor analyzes the ECG data and gives medical treatment to industrial worker.

  • As a fine-grained power gating method for achieving greater power savings, our approach takes advantage of the finite state machine with a datapath (FSMD) characteristic which shows sequential idleness among subcircuits. In an FSMD-based power gating, while only an active subcircuit is expected to be turned on, more subcircuits should be activated due to the power overhead. To reduce the number of missed opportunities for power savings, we deactivated some of the turned-on subcircuits by slowing the FSMD down and predicting its behavior. Our microprocessor experiments showed that the power savings are close to the upper bound.

  • Photoplethsymogram (PPG) drifts due to the changes in respiration and blood perfusion as well as external light. This hinders a proper PPG measurement. We controlled DC drifts by controlling the signal ground of PPG signals. A microprocessor-based system successfully controlled DC drifts of PPG signals.

  • DSP based on a 8 bit microprocessor was studied for ECG and PPG signals. Digital filtering has an advantage of reducing hardware components in system-on-chip design. However, low resolution such as in 8 bit data has much difficulties in DSP. We demonstrated a comparable performance of DSP filtering compared with analog filters.

  • Frequency is regarded as one of most important indices for the operating power systems. Several digital techniques for measuring frequency have been presented in the last decades. This paper proposes a design and implementation an adaptive scheme using phase angle difference calculation fort frequency measuring in power system. The advantages of the proposed technique are demonstrated by fault signals from EMTP simulation and user defined arbitrary signals by Excel program. The proposed technique is compared with the conventional methods. Performance teat results indicate that the proposed technique provides accurate measures in pretence of noise and harmonics and in case faults and is suitable for measurement near-nominal, nominal. and off-nominal frequencies. We can see that It will be useful in microprocessor based relays and digital metiers that need to measure power system frequency.

  • The purpose of this paper is development of portable cardiovascular signal processing device. Beat-to-beat fluctuation in heart rate, respiration, and blood pressure have been known to be meditated by autonomic nervous system activities convergent on various effector organs. This system consists of data acquisition module, main data processing module and graphic LCD module. The data acquisition module is developed for data aquisition, data multiplexing and interfacing with main data processing system. And, main data processing module is developed for data storing, data processing and interfacing with graphic LCD module. The main processing system is based on 32-bit microprocessor.

  • RSFQ (Rapid Single Flux Quantum) circuits are used in many practical applications. RSFQ DFFC (Delay Flip-Flop with complementary outputs) circuits can be used in a RAM, an ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit), a microprocessor, and many communication devices. A DFFC circuit has one input, one switch input, and two outputs (output l and output 2). DFFC circuit functions in such way that output 1 follows the input and output 2 is the complement of the input when the switch input is "0." However, when there is a switch input "1."the opposite output signals are generated. In this work, we have designed an RSFQ DFFC circuit based on 1 ㎄/$\textrm{cm}^2$ niobium trilayer technology. As circuit design tools, we used Xic, WRspice, and Lmeter After circuit optimization, we could obtain the bias current margins of the DFFC circuit to be above 32%.

  • A meaning of power quality has changed, which affects on an environmental change of existing electricity supply markets. Today, it should take both consumers and suppliers into consideration to develop information and communication technology and to increase the use of power and electronic equipments. As a result, it is necessary to develop a system to monitor power quality and to display data. In this paper, a system, as a power quality monitoring equipment, which can use protective replays with progress of microprocessor technology and provide information in the intranet/internet circumstances using web-based architecture is described.

  • A programmable controller (PC) which can control general sequential process is developed. The Z-8OA microprocessor-based PC includes hardwares such as programming device, input/output modules, timer/counter modules, and power-failure recovery module which for soft-ware, initialization program, monitor program, execution program, and power-failure recovery program are developed. In particular, the PC is designed in such a way that a timer can be used several times in different time intervals and a skip capability is incorporated in the user program to reduce scan time.
