Minimizing the power consumption of ZigBee RF4CE Certified Platform

  • The RF4Control stack is used with microcontrollers and IEEE(R) 802.15.4 transceivers. This paper explains the setup and power consumption measurements for the transceiver based remote controller and target node. It is assumed the reader of this paper has knowledge about RF4CE. The current consumption measurements are made using the ZigBee Platform included with the RF4Control stack. he current consumption measurements are presented, and battery life time is calculated for an remote controller. Note that the results presented in this paper are intended as a guideline only. A variety of factors will influence the battery life calculation and final measurements and calculations should be performed on ZigBee RF4CE Certified Platform.

  • An 8b Fuzzy Coprocessor (FC) is presented that has eight programmable fuzzy algorithms and up to 256 inputs, 64 outputs and 16,384 rules. The 6.4mm2 chip fabricated in 1.0$\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS technology can be used as a stand-alone device or as a macrocell for microcontrollers. Operating at 20MHz crystal frequency, it has a peak performance of 7.9M rules/s. Perspectives of future FC generations are also outlined, including a 12-16b resolution, additional fuzzy set operations, and optimized inference and defuzzification strategies.

  • Most of the today realized fuzzy logic control applications has been designed using different heuristic approaches for synthesis and implemented with conventional programming languages on general purpose microcontrollers. This paper aims to present a new methodology to design a fuzzy controller. The methodology is based on the Cell-to-Cell approach to extract the control law. A set of fuzzy rules is then found by using a FAM (Fuzzy associative memories) approach. The proposed procedure was implemented to control the rotor position of a DC motor.

  • With distribution industrial control system, the use of low cost to achieve a highly reliable and safe system in real time distributed embedded application is proposed. This developed intelligent node is based on two microcontrollers, one for the execution of the application code, also as master controller for ensuring the real time control & the logic operation with CPLD and other for communication task and the easy control execution, i.e., I/O digital input, digital output and interrupting. This paper also presents where the case NCS (Networked control system) with LonTalk protocol is applied for the filtration process control system of a small water treatment plant.

  • Recently harmonics flowing into power system is increasing as the usage of semiconductor equipments and switching mode power equipments are increasing. Harmonics cause problems such as heat increasing and reduction in capacity of transformers, especially the harmonics flowing into a distribution transformer can lead to the lifetime reduction of transformer. In this paper, we are about to develop a device that can monitor harmonics in real-time as it is affixed to a distribution transformer. Unlike the existing expensive harmonic analysis device, a new harmonic analysis algorithm is proposed in order to implement low-cost equipment. The real-time harmonic analysis algorithm proposed in this paper allows implementation on low performance microcontrollers, thus it can monitor the harmonic in real-time as it is individually affixed to the transformer. Therefore, it would improve the reliability of the transformer and stable power system operation would be possible as it can prevent the transformer accidents in advance.

  • Electrical motors are an integral part of industrial plants with no less than 5 billion motors built world wide every year. The demand for low-cost brushless DC (BLDC) motors has increased in industrial applications. This paper presents a BLDC motor control algorithm for low-cost motor drive applications using general purpose microcontrollers which have only one on-chip timer. This paper describes how to realize pulse width modulation (PWM) signals with general input/output (I/O) ports to control a three-phase permanent magnet brushless DC motor using the timer interrupt on MSP430F1232.

  • 아두이노는 비전공자들도 쉽게 마이크로컨트롤러를 활용해 다양한 프로젝트에 활용할 수 있도록 만들어진 플랫폼이다. 교육환경에서 아두이노 플랫폼에서 동작하는 다양한 보드들이 소프트웨어 교육을 진행하고 있지만, 아두이노 이전에 널리 사용되었던 ATmega128은 사용되고 있지 않다. 이 논문에서는 ATmega128 마이크로컨트롤러를 기반으로 아두이노 호환 보드를 제작하고 아두이노 플랫폼에서의 동작을 확인해 본다.

  • 부채널 정보를 사용하여 마이크로 컨트콜러 상에서 표절 된 코드를 탐지하는 새로운 방법을 제시한다. 제안 기법은 애플리케이션을 보호하기 위해 추가로 워터 마킹 할 필요가 없이 코드를 실행하는 마이크로 컨트롤러의 유출데이터를 워터 마크로서 사용 할 수 있다. 두 가지 다른 구현의 각각 하나의 부채널 파형에 대한 절대 상관 계수를 기반으로 분석 한다. 어셈블리 언어로 작성된 다양한 테스트 응용 프로그램을 사용 Xmaga128 마이크로 컨트롤러에서 평가하였다. 제안 기법은 어셈블리 코드를 수정하는 공격자에게도 강력하며 코드에 대한 정보와 입력에 대한 접근이 불가능 하여도 탐지가 가능하다.

Autopilot Design for a Target Drone using Rate Gyros and GPS

  • Cost is an important aspect in designing a target drone, however the poor performance of low cost IMU, GPS, and microcontrollers prevents the use of complex algorithms, such as ARS, or INS/GPS to estimate attitude angles. We propose an autopilot which uses rate gyro and GPS only for a target drone to follow a prescribed path for anti-aircraft training. The autopilot consists of an altitude hold, roll hold, and path following controller. The altitude hold controller uses vertical speed output from a GPS to improve phugoid damping. The roll hold controller feeds back yaw rate after filtering the dutch roll oscillation to estimate the roll angle. The path following controller operates as an outer loop of the altitude and roll hold controllers. A 6-DOF simulation showed that the proposed autopilot guides the target drone to follow a prescribed path well from the view point of anti-aircraft gun training.
