  • In this paper, step response, speed, maximum frequency characteristics of 2-phase, 8-pole, HB type, prototype linear pulse motor(LPM) were investigated with the open loop control system(OLCS) being attached to the LPH. In this experiment, both 1-phase and 1-2 phase excitation types were adopted and microcomputer was used in deal with the data. The results point to some directions for the improvement of the open loop control system.

  • In this paper, a computer vision system, which catches printed music score image using CCTV camera and microcomputer, and then recognizes the image and performs tar music with speaker, is discussed. Integral projection method is adopted for feature detection and recognition of the music score image. The range of recognition is con(ined to staffs, perpen-dicular lines and musical notes including chord notes among the various kinds of elements of music score. The practical recognition algorithm considering noises, the preprocessing processes getting rid of noises are also showed, and simple hardware system playing chord is made, In the results, good recognition ratio and performance are obtained.

  • A numerical procedure for dynamic analysis of structures including lateral-torsional coupling, axial force effect and soil-structure interaction is presented in this study. A simple soil-structure system model has been designed for microcomputer applications capable of reflecting both kinematic and inertial soil-foundation interaction as well as the effect of this interaction on the superstructure response. A parametric study focusing on inertial soil-structure interaction is carried out through a simplified nine-degree of freedom building model with different foundation conditions. The inertial soil-structure interaction and axial force effects on a 20-storey building excited by an Australian earthquake is analysed through its top floor displacement time history and envelope values of structural maximum displacement and shear force.

  • The railway signaling system consists of microcomputerized vital devices on board and ground, which are connected to one another by track circuits, and interlocking equipment for route control, The software plays a major role in these microcomputer-based vital systems. Therefore it is important to design the software and validate the required levels of safety and reliability To verify the conditions and functions of signaling logic, the laboratory prototype test bench, which consists of personal computers, VME system and Ethernet LAN, will be developed. In this paper general design of signaling system test bench for high-speed rail is described and some developed subprogram is presented.

  • For the analysis of structures, specifically if it is large-scale, in which case it can not be solved within the core memory, the majority of computation time is consumed In the solution of simultaneous linear equation. In this study an efficient in- and out-of-core column solver for sparse symmetric matrix utilizing memory moving scheme is developed. Compare with existing blocking methods the algorithm is simple, therefore the coding and computational efficiencies are greatly enhanced. Upon available memory size, the solver automatically performs solution within the core or outside core. Analysis example shows that the proposed method efficiently solve the large structural problem on the small-memory microcomputer.

  • A simple dynamic model is developed for the transient simulation of the nuclear power reactor. The dynamic model includes the normalized neutron kinetics model with reactivity feedback effects and the core thermal-hydraulics model. The main objective of this paper demonstrates the capability of the developed dynamic model to simulate various important variables of interest for a nuclear power reactor transient. Some representative results of transient simulations show the expected trends in all cases, even though no available data for comparison. In this work transient simulations are performed on a microcomputer using the DESIRE/N96T continuous system simulation language which is applicable to nuclear power reactor transient analysis.

  • The cardiac activation process using three dimensional ventricular model is simulated. To study this theme, we constructed a cardiac ventricular model and simulated the cardiac activation process using the action potential duration and the activation time. The cardiac ventricular model is generated by the logical combination of the elliptic equations. The action potential duration could be obtained from the fact that it is linearly distributed between model cells. The cardiac activation process was simulated by the law of "all-or-none" Based on the activation time and the action potential do-ration the cardiac potential at the arbitrary time after the activation of the model cell was computed. To test the validity of model, the comparison of the results of model simulation with the physiological data was performed. In conclusion, this model shows the simular results which is comparable to the real conduction of the cardiac excitation.xcitation.

  • This paper presents the implementation of variable structure control system for a linear or nonlinear system using neural networks. The overall control system consists of neural network controller and a reaching mode controller. While the former approximates the equivalent control input on the sliding surface, the latter is used to bring the entire system trajectories toward the sliding surface. No supervised learning procedures are needed and the weights of the neural network are tuned on-line automatically. The neural netowrk-based variable structure control system is applied to a nonlinare unstable inverted pendulum system through computer simulations, and implemented using a microcomputer (80486-50MHz) and applied to the DC servomotor position control system. Simulation and experimental results show the expected approximation sliding property is occurred. The proposed controller is compared with a PID controller and shows better performance than the PID controller in abrupt plant parameter change.
