A micro cyclone combustor was developed to be used as a component of mobile power generator (MPG). The cyclone combustor was designed so that fuel and air were supplied to the combustion chamber separately to prevent a flash-back. The flame shape stabilized inside the micro cyclone combustor was visualized experimentally and the flow field and the combustion characteristics of the combustor were investigated numerically. The global equivalence ratio (${\Phi}$), defined using the fuel and air flow rates, was introduced to examine the overall flow and flame features of the combustor. The flame stabilization mechanism could be well understood using the velocity distribution inside the combustor. For only non-reacting case, it was found that a weak recirculating zone was formed upper the fuel-supplying tube in case of ${\Phi}$ < 1.0. It was also found that small regions that have a negative axial velocity exist near the fuel injection ports for both of non-reacting and reacting case. It was identify that a flame front was stabilized at the negative axial velocity regions near the fuel injection ports.

Flow mechanism of contractive and dilative motion is numerically investigated to obtain a propulsive force in highly viscous fluid, which is the simulation of the propulsion in micro-organisms. The computing code for the analysis of complicated motions is developed with cell-centered unstructured grid scheme. The developed code is validated by the well-known problems of cavity flow and oscillating wall. The validated code is applied to the contractive and dilative motion in narrow tube. The computed results are compared with nodal points scheme. By the present results, it is found that propulsive force can be obtained by the contractive and dilative motion through simulation with the developed code.

A micro cyclone combustor was developed to be used as a heat source of thermoelectric power generator (TPG). The cyclone combustor was designed so that fuel and air were supplied to the combustion chamber separately. The mixing and flow characteristics in the combustor were investigated numerically. The global equivalence ratio ($\Phi$), defined using the fuel and air flow rates, was introduced to examine the flow features of the combustor. The mixing of fuel and air inside the combustor could be well understood using the fuel concentration distribution. It was found that the weak recirculating zone was formed upper the fuel-supplying tube in case of ${\Phi}$<1.0. In addition, it was found that small regions that have a negative axial velocity exist near the fuel injection ports. It is assumed that these negative axial velocity regions can stabilize a flame inside the micro cyclone combustor.

The rapid prototyping (RP) technology has been advanced for various applications such as verification of design, functional test. However, many RP machines still have low accuracy and limitation of applications for various materials. In this research, a hybrid RP system was developed to improve precision of micro parts. This hybrid system consists of deposition and material removal process by mechanical micro machining to fabricate nano composites using photo-curable polymer resin with various nano particles. In this work, using hybrid RP process with Multi-Walled Carbon Nano Tube (MWCNT) and hydroxyapatite, micro parts were fabricated. The precision of parts was evaluated based on the original CAD design, and to see the effect of nano particles on mechanical properties, tensile strength was measured. From the results of experiments, it was confirmed that the part made by hybrid process had higher precision, and the addition of nano particles improved mechanical properties.
A steam generator (boiler) in thermal power plants, consisting of more than 30,000 parts and components, can lead to the plant shutdown with damage to even the small part of the components; esp., like weld failures on boiler tubes. Consequently it is greatly demanded to improve the quality of the weld on the boiler tube for the stable operation of the power plants. Because of the feature of the welding, which is done past by melting the work pieces and adding a filler material that cools to become a strong coalescence, there is a great possibility that weld failures take place. As a result, it is regulated to make a non-destructive testing, like radiography test, to detect defects and flaws in the weld. The current film radiography test provides a lower image quality exceeding 2.0% of a basic quality level for a penetrameter, it is very likely to fail to detect micro defect. As a result, the prevention for the boiler tube failure has not been made effectively. In this study, computed radiography technology has been applied as a digital radiography test to the boiler tube weld, and Se-75 radiation source was used to improve the image quality, instead of Ir-192 source. As a result of this study, it is proven to save the time and cost for test and to enhance the quality level of penetrameter penetrating image, which enables to upgrade the quality of radiography test to the boiler tube weld.

The two-phase closed thermosyphon is a heat transfer device capable of transfer large quantities of heat from a source to a sink by taking advantage of the high heat transfer rates associated with the evaporation and condensation of a working fluid within the device. A study was carried out with the performance of the heat transfer of the thermosyphon having 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 internal micro grooves in which boiling and condensation occur. A plain thermosyphon having the same inner and outer diameter as the grooved thermosyphon is also tested for comparison. Water, methanol and ethanol have been used as the working fluids. The liquid filling as the ratio of working fluid volume to total volume of thermosyphon, the inclination angle, micro grooves and operating temperature have been used as the experimental parameters. The heat flux and the boiling and the condensation heat transfer coefficient and overall heat transfer coefficient at the condenser and evaporator zone are estimated from the experimental results. The experimental results have been assessed and compared with existing correlations. Imura's and Kusuda's correlation for boiling showed in good agreement with experimental results within ${\pm}20$% in plain thermosyphon. The maximum heat transfer rate was obtained when the liquid fill ratio was about 25%. The high heat transfer coefficient was found between 25o and 30o of inclination angle for water and between 20o and 25o for methanol and ethanol. The relatively high rates of heat transfer have been achieved in the thermosyphon with internal micro grooves. The micro grooved thermosyphon having 60 grooves shows the best heat transfer coefficient in both condensation and boiling. The maximum enhancement (i.e. the ratio of the heat transfer coefficients of the micro grooved thermosyphon to plain thermosyphon) is 2.5 for condensation and 2.3 for boiling.

In this paper microwave power propagated through the cold plasma was analyzed and measured with respect to the external magenetic flux density. The d. c discharge plasma was in the rectangular waveguide in which two electrode was inserted, and also the glass diseharge tube inserted in the ractangular wavegside. The direction of microwave pro-pagation, the axis of the discharge tube and external magnetic flux were perpendicular to each other. It showed that the attenuation and absorption of micro wave power propagated in the plasma was increased as the magnetic flux density, the discharge current and the pressure of the gas were increased.

This paper describes a development of the extrusion process and estimation of the weldability for multi cell tubes used to cooling system of automobiles. A study on extrusion process is performed through the 3D FE simulation in non-steady state and extrusion experimentation. Also, nano-indentation test is employed to estimate the weldability of tubes. Especially, An evaluation of the weldability using the nano-indentation is accomplished as compared with nano-hardness in welded part and in the others. Finally, the pattern of the mandrel defection is investigated according to shapes of the porthole and/or chamber.
This study has been carried out to develop a CRT die using hot forging. The conventional CRT die made by casting has defects such as void and inclusion. These defects of the cast die make micro-spots on the surface of the CRT which affect the quality of the final product. So, a hot forging process is developed to avoid these defects of CRT die by the model material test and the rigid-plastic FEM. Firstly, model material tests are carried out with plasticine billets in order to investigate the material flow pattern in the die cavity and to get the reasonable initial values for designing the preform in the FE simulation. And then a finite element analysis has been performed to Predict the preform and the forging load of a CRT die. We also suggest an integrated die-set which combines two die-sets into one die-set to save manufacturing time and cost in case of similar die-size.
Nuclear fuel elements containing dry recycling nuclear fuel pellets for the irradiation test in a reactor were remotely fabricated from spent PWR fuel materials in a hot cell. End closure welding as well as seal tube welding for thermal sensor of the elements was performed by Nd:YAG laser. The soundness of the end closure welds and seal tube welds for the elements were evaluated by a precise X-ray inspection system composed of a micro-focus X-ray generator with an image intensifier and a real time camera system. Then, helium leak test was performed for the elements. The soundness of the welds of the fuel elements was confirmed by the X-ray inspection and helium leak test. The irradiation test for the fuel elements were successfully completed at the HANARO research reactor.
