Thin Film Micromachining Using Femtosecond Laser Photo Patterning of Organic Self-assembled Monolayers

  • Self-Assembled Monolayers (SAMs) formed by alkanethiol adsorption to thin metal film are widely being investigated for applications as coating layer for anti-stiction or friction reduction and in fabrication of micro structure of molecules and bio molecules. Recently, there have been many researches on micro patterning using the advantages of very thin thickness and etching resistance of Self-Assembled Monolayers in selective etching of thin metal film. In this report, we present the several machining method to form the nanoscale structure by Mask-Less laser patterning using alknanethiolate Self-Assembled Monolayers such as thin metal film etching and heterogeneous SAM structure formation.

  • 스퍼터링 방법으로 FM/M/FM의 다층박막을 증착한 다음 초소형 박막 인덕터를 제작하기 위하여 반도체 공정을 대체할 수 있는 레이저 미세가공 기술을 개발하였다. TE $M_{00}$ 모드로 발진하는 CW Nd:YAG 레이저를 active Q-switching 하여 펄스폭이 200 ns인 극 초단 레이저 펄스를 얻었다. 레이저 미세가공 조건을 반복율 5 kHz, 펄스 당 에너지 5 mJ/pulse로 최적화 하여 분해능이 20 $\mu\textrm{m}$인 line patterning을 얻었다.

  • Abrasive jet machining is a well-known process for patterning window glass and mirrors. The technics is now being developed for the production structure with high precision. This paper describes erosion profile modeling of micro abrasive jet machining and compares with other researcher's model.

미세 전해가공 기술 동향 (Review of Micro Electro-Chemical Machining)

  • Micro machining technologies have been required to satisfy various conditions in a high-technology industry. Micro electrochemical process is one of the most precision machining methods. Micro electrochemical process has been divided into electrochemical etching through protective layer and electrochemical machining using ultrashort voltage pulses. Micro shaft can be fabricated by electrochemical etching. The various protective layers such as photo-resist, oxide layer and oxidized recast layer have been used to protect metal surface during electrochemical etching. Micro patterning on metal surface can be machined by electrochemical etching through protective layer. Micro hole, groove and structures can be easily machined by electrochemical machining using ultrashort voltage pulses. Recently, the groove with subnanometer was machined using AFM.

레이저빔 가공 인자에 따른 구리도금 미세 패터닝 특성 연구 (Study on Characteristics of Micro Patterned Copper Electrodeposition according to Parameters in Laser Beam Machining)

  • This paper proposes a fabrication process of deposited layer with micro patterns that uses a combination of a pulsed laser beam machining and an electrodeposition. This process consists of the electrodeposition and the laser beam machining. The deposited layer on metal can be selectively eliminated by laser ablation. As a result, the deposited layer with micro patterns can be fabricated without a mask. The characteristics of the deposited layer on stainless steel were investigated according to the average power and marking speed in the pulsed laser beam machining. The optimal laser beam conditions for precise micro patterning of the deposited layer were determined. Finally, the deposited copper layer with micro text was successfully fabricated by the pulsed laser beam machining.

화학 기계적 미세 가공기술에 의한 버 최소화에 관한 연구 (A Study on The Burr Minimization by The Chemical Mechanical Micro Machining(C3M))

  • C3M(chemical mechanical micro machining) is applied for diminishing the size of burr and fabricating the massless patterning for aluminium wafer(thickness of 1${\mu}m$). It is difficult to perform the micro size machining with the radically increased shear stress. While the miniaturization and function-orientation of parts has been needed in the many field such as electronics, optics and medicine. etc., it is not enough to satisfy the industry needs in the machining technology. In this paper feasibility test of diminishing burr and fabricating maskless pattern was experimented and analyzed. In the experiment oxide layer was farmed on the aluminium with chemical reaction by ${HNO_3}$(10wt%), then the surface was grooved with tungsten carbide tool for the different condition such as the load and fred rate. The result was compared with the conventional machining to show the improvement of C3M with SEM for burr diminish and XPS for atomic existence, AFM for more precise image.

레이저를 이용한 미세에칭에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Argon Laser Assisted Thermochemical Micro Etching)

  • The application of laser direct etching has been discussed, and believed that the process is a very powerful method for micro machining. This study is focused on the micro patterning technology using laser direct etching process with no chemical damage of the material surface. A new introduced concept of energy synergy effect for surface micro machining is the combination of chemically ion reaction and laser thermal process. The etchant can't etch the material in room temperature, and used Ar laser has not power enough to machine. But, the machining is occurred in local area of the material by the combined energy. Using this process, the material is especially prevented from chemical damage for electric property. We have tested this new concept, and achieved a line with $1{mu}m$ width. The Ar laser with 488nm wavelength was used. The material was Si(100) wafer, and etchant is KOH solution. The application and flexibility of this process is in great hopes for MEMS structures and fabrication of the micro electric device parts.
